  1. each doctors program is different. You will probably be starting mushy foods. Things like mashed potato, thick Soup, anything soft and mushy or anything you can put into a blender and make soft. Rhonda

    Male NSV here (possible TMI)

This thread has made a dismal morning here at school, FUNNY and upbeat!! THANKS!!! Rhonda
  3. I was a champion burper before surgery, now I am a GRAND CHAMPION burper! I have used a straw and not used a straw.. neither makes a difference. I have sipped and I have drank normally, sipping is better. When I eat too fast the burping is worse and when I eat bread is seems worse. If I don't chew, chew, chew my food like I should it is worse. My hubby farts like most men do... he laughes at me and tells me my burping doesn't bother him so I guess I have to tolerate his farts more than I use to! My tummy also grumbles and growls alot. It is just part of being sleeved.. I will take that any day over being fatter than I am now. I am only 2 1/2 months out. Rhonda

    Actigall Questions...

I was given this prescription and read the side effects... the hair loss bothered me. I have not ever had gall bladder problems and don't want them. BUT....I am a slow loser and don't want to lose more hair than I know I probably will...so I am only taking 1 pill a day. If I start losing quickly I will up the dossage to "normal". until then I hope to get by with only one a day. Rhonda
  5. Good question.. I can't wait to hear some answeers!! Rhonda
  6. I have always been a big burper, but it seems that now it is WAY worse!! Whenever I drink something either with or without a straw. And usually after I eat anything. I burp like I have had a large coke! I am taking one previcid (sp) a day and the burping is getting worse not better. some days it actually will be better and I'll think.. it is finally over, but then the next day may be the worse yet. does anyone have ideas to reduce the air??? Rhonda

    Losing Shoe Sizes

to look at my feet I would not have thought I had much fat there.. but after losing only 40 pounds, I am having my heels (pumps) slip off my heel as I walk. I had to go buy those cushion things to put on the heel to keep from slipping. Since I have a big foot since I was in 8th grade (size 10) I wouldn't mind losing a little there! Rhonda
  8. I am so glad I am not the only one!!!! Over the holidays I watched my family pile their plates so very full of food and then eat so fast that if I looked away and then looked back it was gone!! I am not grossed out by it but shocked by it, mostly because I KNOW I did the exact same thing before surgery. My hubby has lost over 100 pounds by doing WW and exercising. He still piles his plate full and eats wayyyy tooo fast!! I am working on slowing him down and his portion size. Rhonda
  9. It really depends on you and how your surgery goes! I had a wonderful surgery and hospital stay. basically NO pain, just discomfort. I went back to school on day 5. I also have a desk job. (High School Secretary) and only worked 1/2 day the first 2 days back, but could have stayed all day. Now, I was tired when I went home for that first week. I also really think it is your personal attitude! I have a fairly high pain threshold and was determined to make it as smooth a transition as I could. Since everything went smooth for me.. it was easy. BUT, every surgery/person is different. Rhonda
  10. I am sorry you feel this way also!! I have not noticed this behavior here, but then I have not looked for it either. I hope you don't leave.. I agree with the above poster.. we need all types of folks on this site.. we need to read about the good/the bad and the unexpected. Rhonda
  11. I am one of those people that don't really notice weight loss/gain in other people.. There was a friend that lost 50 lbs and I truly didn't realize it.. but then again.. I really don't notice it when there is a gain either! I have to ask my hubby whenever we are looking at my horses trying to figure out if they are gaining or losing weight. (We have to keep a grazing muzzle on 2 of them because of weight.) My hubby lost 130 lbs doing it the weight watchers way. He would lose big amounts of weight and I just CAN'T see it. I also would think some people are jealous of any weight loss that someone else has... I know I was always envious (sp) of my hubby.. not that I wasn't glad but always wished it was ME losing that weight!! Heheheheh!!! NOW I AM!!!! Rhonda
  12. I have bought several Protein bars and they all taste pretty bad.. Could some of you out there chime in on which are your favorite ones? Rhonda
  13. I am only 1 month post op... so far this journey has been by far better than anything I could have expected. I have lost about 25 lbs ( including the pre-op shake time) and feel so good. my only complaint is having to eat slow... I work at school.. (schools train you to eat FAST) and I have worked here 23 years.. so I naturally eat very fast. Slowing down has been the hardest thing for me. I would do this over in a New York minute!!! I just hate this was not an option for me until now... wish I could have done it 15 years ago!! Rhonda
  14. I was also told NO straws... I have always used a straw and have always had lots of air in my stomach thus I burped A LOT!!! so I tried the no straw for awhile pre op and post op... I still get lots of air in my tummy and still BURP A TON! so I have gone back to using a straw and realized that with a straw I actually drink more. So I will just burp away and get more liquids in. I will have to have a better reason than "you get too much air with a straw" for me to change my habit. Rhonda
  15. I am 1 month post op and taking the actigal for my gallblader per doctors instructions. Apparently rapid weight loss can trigger gallbladder problems. My question to those who have had WLS THEN had gallbladder problems.. did you take the actigall??? do you think taking the actigall did or did not help?? I am just wondering if I may have a gallbladder operation looming over me in a few months... At this point I have never had any gallbladder related health problems. Just wondering Rhonda

Being Sleeved In The Real World

I agree with everything everyone has already said... I am only 4 weeks post op.. but I don't even want sweets.. here at work they have brought in cookies/donuts/candy and I am very easily able to turn it down.( in fact I have a bar of chocolate in my purse that has been there for 6 weeks and I am not even tempted!!!) Even tho at Thanksgiving we had a wonderful cake that was delicious... I know... becaue I ate a tiny piece.. that totally satisfied my sweet tooth. I didn't eat any other thing sweet the whole holiday. i have not doubt that this is the perfect surgery for me... I am not a huge sweet eater.. I am a carb/bread eater.. and a volumn eater. This sleeve is wonderful.. I can still eat a "bite" of anything I want. Rhonda I know every person is different, different sleeve, different cravings... but for me....so far it has been perfect.
  19. I am 4 weeks post op.. Ihave had several surgeries... this one was BY FAR the easiest one!!! I never hurt and never had gas pain. I know everyone is different and every level of pain tolerance is different... but I went in to this surgery on cloud 9 and staying there throughout it.. I think attitude is a lot of what makes it good or bad. That said.. I know you can have different situations that make it better/worse than mine.. just know the nurses and doctors want the best for you. and keep your attitude positive! Know it will hurt, but if you have had ortho surg. on your knee you know pain... this should be not that much different... just different. Tell the nurses you want pain meds... they will give it to you. You will also go home with some good medication! use it!! Rhonda
  20. I have enjoyed eating the food, but then after I eat I really wish I had not... . I have only slimmed once.. yuk... then this past Sunday we went to Cracker Barrel and I ate a few bites of fish, chewed really really well, when all of a sudden I felt like the food was backed up all the way to my mouth. I went to the bathroom and opened my mouth and out it came.. not really vomit.. more of a baby's spit up.. it just slid out. I felt better but also felt full. I really should not have felt full at that point. I also have to make myself eat, it taste good in my mouth but my stomach does not enjoy having it in there.... most of the time I'm not sick, but very full feeling. I am trying very hard to get all my Protein in.. I drink at least one Protein Drink a day and try to add Protein powder to my coffee and yogurt. This is just a journey we have to travel.. I am sure it will get better as our tummys heal! Rhonda
  21. This past thanksgiving was really strange for me... strange in a good way!! I sat at the table with my tiny portions of the things I felt I could chew well and would go down well (I am 3 1/2 weeks post op). My family all had plates that were piled high with food. they gobbled down the food as fast they could and then went back for more. I had my one small plate of food that was only a spoonful of each item I felt I could eat and still didn't eat all of it.. in fact only ate about 1/2. I looked at my family's plates and thought to myself .... how in the world can they eat that much.. then I realized that I was right there with them last year, piling the plate so high and going back for 2nds or 3rds.... oh my what a few weeks and a smaller stomach can do to a persons mind and belly!! hahah!! Surgery Was `17th Went Fantastic

Good for you!!!! I also had surgery and it went fantastic with no complications!! I hope you continue to have a fantastic journey!!!! Rhonda
  23. i know this is a dumb question but what is your Protein and water/fluid goals per day? And what do you actually get in??? I seem to eat all day long, in fact it seems my whole life is about food/water now. I am always preparing or thinking about food or fluids. I eat almost constantly and seem to only get 40--60 protein and really am having a hard time getting in my fluids.. it seems it is always just before I eat or right after I eat that I think of drinking. When I do drink it is only tiny sips and I still get lots of air so I burp constantly!! The burping is something I did before surgery and now it is even worse!! I apparently must swallow air as I swallow food and Water because i am a CHAMPION burper!!! Rhonda
  24. Michele- I also burp a lot, but that is pretty normal for me.. at least I have all my life burped a lot!!! I have always taken a previcid so taking one after surgery was no big deal.. now at first I was slightly off every morning so I started taking my previcid at night and first thing in the morning I would sip on something warm. I am a tea drinker so I drank warm tea. yummy! it make my morning much better to take the previcid at night and drink something warm first.. then it was easier to eat or drink my Protein. Anytime I drink something really cold it makes my tummy fell really weird. One trick I learned about the Protein Powder was to mix it with chocolate milk instead of white milk or Water. I also like the taste/texture of pre-mixed bottled Protein Drinks so I keep one at school so it is my "go to" something.... Rhonda
