To tell or NOT to tell
Told my BF and my Mom. That's it because everyone else in my family and my Bf's are too judgemental and I don't want the stress. Oh and the GNC guy last night LOL he was helping me find protein powders.

Binging prior to surgey
I keep doing the last supper too. The problem is the next morning when i wake up I'm like "it's a new day I will be on track today". But then by the evening I eat something I shouldn't have.....another "last supper" so to speak. I am fine all day, it's the night time when I am rocking my daughter to bed that gets me. I will get thru this, this is exactly why I am getting this surgery....to help me. Until the surgery i will continue to work on these eating triggers.

Rating protein powders
Thank You! I'm getting so sick of my Bariatric Advantage shakes that I can hardly tolerate them anymore and I know I'm gunna be doing shakes after my surgery too so I like to have a lot of options. The pudding idea is great I am going to try that today. Thank you.

Frustrated. Need clear answer. Need help.
It depends on how much Protein you're getting I think. If you can't stomach more than 3 shakes a day make sure you are getting at least 60g of protein when ur drinking those 3 shakes. At least thats the requirements thru my office. I can either do 4 shakes a day or 2 shakes a day and a small meal with meat and non-starchy veggies. Only things I can eat all day otherwise is non-caloric liquid. (water, broth, SF Jello, SF popsicles) Anyways I am so glad you posted this again because I tried creating the same post and no one answered me LOL. And you and I both tried in that other post and still no answers. Glad you finally got some help, cuz it helped me too! Also last night I went to GNC and I am about to try their Wheyabolic shakes. I have chocolate vanilla and Cookies and cream I will let you know how they are because like you I am so sick of my shakes it's getting hard to drink them anymore.

Do protein shakes count toward your needed fluid intake for each day?
Really?! My place says that the protein shakes do NOT count. They want me to drink my protein shakes plus 64 oz of non-caloric fluid per day. Guess everyones doctor is different lol. I'm still pre-op tho, maybe they will change that opinoin after my surgery but I highly doubt it.

Protein Powder Options
So I am pre-op on a liquid protein diet. Right now I am drinking Bariatric Advantage the chocolate flavor. I like it a lot, it is just the right thickness for me. I make them with water and a couple ice cubes in a shaker cup. I do not like the other Bariatric Advan. flavors at all. I'm sure there is a thread somewhere about all this but I can't find it. I was going to order some Unjury flavors but I don't know how thick they are. Any help is good help. I don't feel like I can be succesful if all I drink is chocolate bariatric advantage. It's getting boring at 4 shakes a day. HELP ME! Thanks!

Rating protein powders
I would also like someone to help me if they could. I am drinking Bariatric Advantage Chocolate flavor and I like it. I like my protein drinks pretty thick. I make it in a shaker cup (the one with the little whisk ball inside) with water and a couple ice cubes. I'm getting sick of just chocolate though and I don't like the Bariatric Advantage brand in other flavors. I'm okay buying stuff online or at the stores. If you have any personal recomendations for me that would be awesome. Thanks !

4th day pre-op
I'm on my 13 or 14th day pre-op liquid Protein diet. I have made a few mistakes along the way, it is super hard. I am the same way at home, I always seem to be hungry. So lately I have been trying to keep my hands busy even when at home watching tv. If I watch tv I also sit on my laptop on this site now so I won't be tempted to eat or grab some junk food. As far as feeling bloated you might be drinking and eating too closely together, or too fast. I find if I chug anything I get so bloated afterwards. I have been on here a lot and almost everyone says that their hunger gets better after surgery. Lots of people even say they have to make themselves eat because they are just not hungry. I can't wait to have that problem because right now I am always hungry (head and actual hunger). Good luck to you, just keep pushing and remember it does get better. This is all worth it, or that's what i hear. Oh and are you allowed to have sugar free Jello and popsicles, because having that type of snack has really helped me. It isn't the same as grabbing chips or ice cream but it at least gave me something to munch on when everything else gets boring. If you can't have that you could make your own crystal light popsicles, I think they even sell them at stores now too. That way it takes some time to eat it but your hands are staying busy. Good Luck! I'm pushing thru right there with you.

started pre op diet
My doc has started me on the liquid diet and I still don't have a surgery date. They told me that starting it now before they send in the insurance is a good thing in case the insurance denies me and wants me on a supervised diet. It's very hard being on the liquid diet with no surgery date. It's hard doing all of this and not even having a finish line or a date set or anything. You should call and ask what they think. The way I am thinking is whether I get the surgery or not at least by losing this initial weight I am that much closer to my goal weight.

Pre surgery diet is working!
No liquid diet!? LUCKY...LOL Mine is all liquids. No soda, no caff., no nothing. I am only allowed to have 1000 calories a day. It's BRUTAL but working.

Pre surgery diet is working!
That is so exciting! I am also on my pre-op diet and I am on day 8 and have lost 10lbs as of this morning. The pre-op diet is supposed to work fast to prepare us for surgery. My mom is the only other person besides my bf that I have told about wanting the sleeve and she asked me the same thing. "If this diet is so good and your losing so much weight just stick to that." Welllllll I told her yeah it's meant to jumpstart your weight loss and shed weight quickly, it's not meant to be long term. Eventually I would have to eat food, and eventually I would eat too much of the wrong foods. That is why I am fat in the first place. By the time I am ready to quit the pre-op diet and grab a cheesebuger I will be getting my sleeve, and the sleeve will limit how much food I can eat and also I will want to make the right food choices to keep the sleeve in good shape and not cause myself physical pain and sickness. She really had nothing to say to that. Now she is nothing but supportive and has changed her whole attitude about it. Basically I didn't bat an eyelash when she said that. I was firm, I said my peace, and it's all true so she couldn't argue with me. Maybe these people are scared because your having surgery. Maybe also these people are worried that you are finally going to lose the weight and keep it off. Anywho don't let them get you down! If pre-op liquid diets were the answer we would all be skinny! Keep up the good work! And Congratulations on your upcoming surgery!

Learning new coping skills without food
So I haven't had the sleeve done yet but I am on the pre-op diet and well I am the somewhat the same way. If i do something awesome, or have a bad day I am like "I totally deserve ice cream and not the small little one either I deserve the large Peanut Butter bash". Yeah not such a good idea. So anyways yesterday I had a good day did everything right and I rewarded myself with a small salad instead. Since I am on pre-op thats okay. I know rewarding with food is not a good idea, but changing how and what food I reward with is a start. Since being pre-op ( I am only on day 6 ) I have already been forced to deal with some triggers that would have me running to food. Sooooo I have started reading books a lot more, I come on here a ton, also me and my BF bought monopoly for Wii and I play that. We also spend time watching movies now and we just bought the LIFE board game lol. I may be a dork but it's my rewards and their not food so I'm happy with it. When I sit down to watch movies and my BF starts munching out on beef Jerky and chips I grab my bowl of sugar free Jello and some sugar free popsicles. (BTW my bf is super skinny and actually has to count calories to make sure he doesn't lose weight.....doesn't make my life any easier) This is how I am coping. It's so hard for me because food and I well we have a love hate relationship. Sometimes I find myself almost shoveling something into my mouth and not even knowing I'm doing it lol. If you have a bad day go home and take a bubble bath, or maybe stop on the way home and pick out a new book. I hate buying clothes for myself right now but I love to shop and really anything that involves spending money makes me happy. But lots of people cope by working out and hitting the gym. Taking a walk, listening to music, scrapbooking and crafty stuff too.

Swallowing Air?
I'm really hoping they give me a straw, I doubt it though. The whole WLS staff has said give up straws for life so I'm not betting on getting one after surgery. Whatever though as much as I love straws, I will love being skinny more I'm so glad other people have said they haven't heard of anything like this. Just hearing this womans story gave me the heebie jeebiez.

Psych Clearance Frustration
That would make me soooo mad! Everyone I have been involved with is like that. But if it was them and their stuff you better believe they would be on top of it. So I call my Surgeons office and bug them whenever I want. Yes I may be a huge pest, yes I am annoying, Yes I have a lot of mundane things to say but it's my body,my money, and my surgery and it's so important to me so POOOO on them. I would say stay on top of them until they get it done. Sorry you have to go thru all that, I know how hard it can be.

How do you choose a "goal weight"?
I am almost 5'8 and right now I weigh 245lbs. I told my surgeon I wanted to be 135 pounds. My primary doc thinks that's insane because I am a very broad boned person. He seems to think I will be fine and love the way I look at 160 or 165lbs. I have never in my life been thin so I am playing it by my mirror and how I feel. My goal weight will be whatever I want it to be lol. But as of right now my goal is 199lbs. Then I will re-evaluate myself every 10 pounds after that until I am happy with what I see. Some people can say they are or want to be a "goal weight" but you have to factor so much into that number. So I would say shoot for something realistic, use the charts as a guide, and once you get there you will know.

What is the psych eval like?
I'm glad you posted this I am worried about mine too. I was referred by my surgeon though. I am not 100% sure but I would think if I am referred they would "want" to say yes. More money for the surgeon who in turn just gave them some money too. I know it's politics but hey heres to hoping =]

Swallowing Air?
That medicine cup is a great idea! I'm totally going to do that after my surgery !!! Thanks both of you for relieving some of my stress, I was so nervous. The meetings are supposed to help people but instead it just gave me anxiety. I told my boyfriend as soon as we left that I was coming home and asking you guys on here instead lol

Swallowing Air?
So I went to my first support group meeting today, I have to attend three before I have surgery. Well a woman who has had the sleeve was telling us about her horrible experience swallowing air. I know we have to sip sip sip and never use a straw. She said she did all that and still got a bubble of air stuck in her pouch. She said she was unable to get the bubble out and ended up not drinking enough fluids and becoming dehydrated. Is this normal thing to happen? How can I drink and eat without swallowing air, like how is the best way to do it ? I know this seems silly to be freaking out about this but I don't want to be in pain and hurting because I can't sip and eat without swallowing air. Any help or tips would be great. Plus I want to practice eating and drinking the way I have to after I get surgery so I won't screw it up lol.

Pre-surgery diet started today!
I use a food journal too but I prefer to write everything down with a pen. Try and keep yourself as busy as possible. My bf and I have started playing monopoly on Wii. He completely munches out while we play tho, I on the other hand grab a flavored Water and some SF popsicles. I feel like I am munching out but really I'm not lol. But by playing the game I am busy. I also have been reading a lot on my droid. I download books like crazy. I am a snacker and a volume eater so I am training myself to not do that during Tv time and reading time. I am on day 4. The days get easier and harder at the same time I think. Just keep looking toward your surgery date. Also, come on here a lot! I am always on here now. It keeps me super occupied and I love reading and responding to everyones posts. =]

Pre-op Diet Meltdown!
I get to have 4 shakes a day or 2 shakes and a sensible meal. Lean meat and non starchy veggies only. Also I can have as much Water, sf popsicles, broth, and sf Jello as I want. I was put on this diet by my doc but I have no surgery date yet, no approval for insurance yet either. In fact I have my NUT appointment on Nov 1. So I know will be on this diet at least until then probably much longer. I just wish I had a date to look forward to. Anyways I am in a similar situation because I have to cook for my bf and daughter. For example, tonight is spaghetti and meat sauce with cheezy garlic bread. I on the other hand am having a Bariatric Advantage vanilla crappy shake. Today is only my 4th day on the diet, and I had my first "meltdown" last night. I really had a craving for ice cream and I was so freaking pissed off about it lol. I finally told my bf to give our daughter a bath and to leave me alone. I was sure if he didnt I would bite his head off. So I tried taking a nap. It was very restless. I ended up going to bed angry and hungry. Today is much better though, glad I didn't give into the ice cream. Next week is my period though, can't wait for those meltdowns lmao.

I have an Addiction...
I am getting to be the same way. I jusy had my consult on 9/26 and started my pre-op diet today. I find myself on here all the time, I'm hooked and I don't even know if I will be approved yet lol.
