  1. I was sleeved 9 weeks ago. The first 3 weeks I had quite a bit of fatigue. I allowed myself to rest, you are recovering after all. I went backto work on the 3rd week which was tough. About the 4th week my energy levels started to raise and things started to normalise. Now I still get a bit of fatigue if I am not eatting correctly. I think this is just normal part of recovery, however as others have stated, if you are concerned speak to your doctor.

    How Are The Spitfires Doing?

How are all the Spitfires doing? I reached my first goal (loss of 25kg) this morning. People are starting to notice the difference now. I had a lady I work with today say I am looking really good. Hope everyone else is doing well.
  4. I am almost 9 weeks out now and had a pretty easy recovery. No pain killers after I left the hospital not even panadol, very little gas (I expected more), there was a little issue getting cold Water down, but as people have said above room temperature and I also found if I put some sugar free cordial into it, it went down way easier. The hardest part about this has been the emotional changes that I have had to make, ie recognising when I have eatten too much, the initial fatigue as my body adjusted to a change in intake. I have actually been shocked I have not had to take a pain killer for any reason for 9 weeks now, pre-op it felt like I was always taking them for some ache or pain.
  5. I was supposed to bring fruit in from about 6 weeks. However almost 9 weeks out now I find that citrus fruits or acidic fruits make my tummy very funny. I have been sticking to fruit cups for peaches and pureed fruits. Everyone has different reactions to it.

    I just noticed . . .

I have the same issue but with my nose lol
  7. Here is my list: 1. Look at myself and not just see fat. Learn to love the way I look, not just the person I am. 2. Be able to play constantly with my 3yo nephew 3. Being in photo's with my soon to be new twin newphews. I had to be forced into them with the first one 4. Find love, let myself be in a relationship 5. Buy cute clothes 6. Live a long, healthy life 7. Feel free to do whatever I want.

    Which was the hardest

I am 8 weeks out today. So far everything has been quite easy for me, or atleast til last week. Tho I will have a few sips of Water with a meal just to soften it more than anything. I am on vacation in New York and having a hard time getting enough food in to fuel me for all the stuff I am doing. Seeing as I do not get hungry I often forget to eat. I will be home in a few days and be able to get back into a routine.

    9-22-11 sleeve date siblings?

Hey Bee, 8 weeks today!! Can you believe it? I am in New York at the moment. It has been hard being here, remembering to eat, getting enough Fluid in. And then getting fatigued. Guess I have to learn to be able to travel a different way. As I am on the go all the time and no longer have hunger pains I will just not eat or drink and wonder why I am exhausted. Only 3 more days and I will be home. I have been shopping up a storm, all sale stuff and a few different sizes to grow down to. Is your sleeve still tight in the mornings? I have the same problem, but mornings were never a friend of mine when it came to food. I find a piece of wholemeal toast with a spread on it fits in perfectly. How are you doing?

    Your most exciting NSV

This is one of the ones I am most looking forward to.
  11. Good for you! I think you would be hard pressed to find anyone here who didnt have concerns going in, what if there are complications, excess skin, how do you handle social engagements,,,the what ifs. I came to the conclusion that I could not do it on my own before I chose this particular surgery. I did alot of research before selecting which helped ease some of the issues. My normal doctor had not even heard of the surgery, but I found an awesome surgeon who put me at ease with it. Not to say on the day of the operation I was not freaking out, hell I was loosing most my stomach...voluntarily. But even at only 6 weeks out I would not change a thing. food does not have the hold over me that it did before. I am able to get around easier, already feel the benefits, am loosing weight. I am starting to feel comfortable in my own body for the first time in along time. Good luck with your journey!
  12. Wow congratulations!!! Friends like that are fantastic. I have been overwhelmed by the support by my family and friends. There was the initial trepidation about having any kind of surgery. But even they supported my choice. As I get healthier and healthier they continue to support me. They make me feel comfortable all the time, they will always get share meals when we are out or do things that do not involve eatting, which is a change from before.

    Lactose Intolerance

I had problems with milk before surgery. However all other dairy was OK. Now I am not able to eat yoghurt or ice cream, so far thankfully cheese is still OK. The surgery just seems to have extended the issue from pre-surgery for me.

    9-22-11 sleeve date siblings?

I just wanted to drop by and see how my sleeve sister is doing. Can you believe that it is 5 weeks today that we were going under the knife.(well it is thursday here now) I am doing well, have started phasing food in, so not too many issues. Learning how much and how slow I need to go. Sometimes I am not so good at remembering this, especially while working and running around all over the place. Weight loss has slowed but not stalled (touch wood), and I am working out and walking more and more. Cloths are soo baggy now, but am not quite at the next size yet. Now I am working to my weight goal for my trip to New York, which is starting to seel like a bit of a stretch, but ya gotta try right. I hope you are doing well and the issues you were having have subsided somewhat.

    How Are The Spitfires Doing?

Hi All, I had my first non scale victory yesterday. I was travelling for work with no extender belt required woot woot woot. Sorry I had to share that:)
  16. I am like Fusilli. Before the op I only told nearest and dearest, however now I dont mind talking about. Work is especially curious as I took 2 weeks off to get the op. I am grateful that so far everyone has been so supportive. It also makes it easier when I am out and about, nowadays I have been getting share plates (with friends) and I have a few bites and then everyone else can finish the rest. So far it works.

    Cold feet?

Good luck with the Operation! I did have cold feet, especially on the day. I had evaluated everything before the surgery and made my decision and felt more than comfortable with it. I knew I had a great doctor, and luckily everyone who knew was supportive, most knowing my constant struggle with weight. However this did not stop the nerves and cold feet on the operation date. I had got myself so worked up second guessing my decision and worrying whether my liver was going to be small enough ( my doctor is very strict on this), I pushed my blood pressure up so high (I have never had high blood pressure before). My advise is trust that you have made the right decision for you and let the professionals you have chosen do their job. I am 4 weeks out today and tho this is a learning curve I am happy that I did it.

    How Are The Spitfires Doing?

Ducker, hello! I hear you on not being able to relate to the long termers. It is good to be able to chat with people that are closer in the stages. PNW - Welcome! I had my 4 week follow up with my doctor yesterday. He was very happy with my progress, and happy to follow the Nutrionists lead on food now. So I get to start integrating real food into my diet. Strangely so far I have not had any of the affects I was having on purees, being too full or bloated, or gas. So far only been a day and a bit but will see how it goes. My nutrionist wants me to start to integrate foods, and try and ensure that I cover all food groups. Here is my suggested diet: Bk - Toast with a spread (wholemeal toast) MT- Fruit cup or fresh fruit (feels too early for full fruit so fruit cups are my preferred option) lunch - Cracker with some kind of meat/protein AT - Same as morning tea dinner - Some Protein a bit of carb and a few bites of vegs. At the moment Proteins should be minced at this stage. I know this goes against alot of the standards on this board of having protein quota so to speak. As of this morning I am 35pounds down in 2 months, since my first appt with the doctor, almost 20 since my surgery. I had swapped lunch and dinner yesterday, had a cracker with cream cheese and ham, it was like the most amazing thing. And then had toast this morning....so yum... ...small things. Hope you all are progressing well!!!

    How Are The Spitfires Doing?

Regang07, I was sleeved on the 22nd. I feel the same, I am tired a lot. I had my first full week of work last me and it exhausted me, even when I tried to have a light week. I get nausea but the nexium my doctor gave me helps with that. I am hoping when I get to a normal diet the fatigue will lessen. Any one else got tips?

    C'mon Aussies C'mon (C'mon)

Hi Patto, Good to hear that you are on your way to recovery. I was sleeved in Sydney on the 22nd Sept, so a few days before you. I was in hospital for 3 days, agree the first 2 days are a bit like being in a fog. I refused another night in hospital too, got sick of being the youngest person around by a good 3 decades hehehe. And in hospital they made me take pain killers, havent taken one since leaving the hospital. My recovery has been going well, better than I had expected. My new stomach has some tempermental days but most days I coping well. The biggest thing I deal with is fatigue, but hope that will be better when I get on a normal diet. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
  21. I have been having home made veggie soup which I have made from scratch. It has been very delish for the last few weeks I have been on pureed food.

    How Are The Spitfires Doing?

Dropping an update from me. I was sleeved on the 22nd Sept as well. I have to say *touch wood* I have had a great recovery. I have not had any real pain since the 2nd day after surgery, even before then it didnt feel like much more than some stiffness to start off with. I have not had any pain killers since leaving the hospital, they made me take them in hospital. I have been on purees since day 3, slowly thickening up the purees. So far everything is going down well, only had one bad moment taking some Vitamins. I have got feeling back in my stomach so can recognise when I am getting full and know when to stop. Went back to work today and that took a bit out of me, had a sleep when I got home, as I only did a half day. Hope everyone else is recovering well!
  24. I too, feel this way. I am 2 weeks out today, the mornings I find it hard to get anything down, i can do fluids but can only "stomach" around 2 teaspoons of anything. But can have more as the day goes on. Pre-sleeve tho I didnt tolerate food in the mornings too well either, would often not feel hungry til 2pm in the afternoon. Good to know others are like this too.

    9-22-11 sleeve date siblings?

Hey, it has been a lil while. I have had a busy weekend, it was a long weekend down here with a number of football finals. I also had 2 birthday parties, my cousins 40th and my nephews 3rd birthday. Made for some challenging eating. I took Soup with me to eat for both of them, tho for my nephews birthday I mashed up a quarter of a chicken patty with tomato and cheese, then mixed in ketchup....sounds gross but was sooo tasty. At the moment I get to eat anything as long as it is pureed and made soft...so there is quite a bit I can have. I even mushed up like 2 teaspoons of my nephews birthday cake. Tho generally I am sticking to thickened Soups. I have found that yogurt makes me quite nauseas. I havent been having food dreams, however have been watching ALOT of food porn (ie food network, magazines), I think it has helped. Hope you are feeling better and are able to get down some liquids without being sick. You are almost at puree stage ...yea!!!
