  1. Forget the horror stories, we may have minor and short term inconveniences but everything works in the end. You will lose a lot of weight immediately and it will taper off over time as that is the way it works. I went into surgery at 236 came out two weeks later at 217 then 210 two weeks and now at roughly eight weeks at 199. Point is it may slow down but it should slow down, you can lose forever it has to level off over time. Just remember you will only lose 50 to 60% of your excess weight not 100%. Yes, you may have problems drinking Water for a bit, or get tired of the liquid phase, soft food phase, etc. but all those pass in time. Just remember you are doing it for your long term health, sit on an airplane without a seatbelt extender, pull the car seat towards the steering wheel instead of pushing it away. Good luck on the surgery and enjoy the new you!

  3. I get that feeling, it may well just be from adding new foods back into your diet it takes a bit for the food to move into the smaller stomach - sort of back ups. Try eating a little slower and smaller bites.

    Easiest way is to just sprinkle salt on your meals like meats, potatoes, soups, and oatmeal. You can also grab some Saltine Crackers. Else when I get craving I just put some salt on a spoon and slowly lick it.

    Usually if you have dehydration you are feeling thirsty. The color of the urine is affected by what you drink. Try getting more plain water and less G2 and crystal lite then you should see the color thin out.. I neither urinate nor have many stools. Of course, should consult your primary doctor, not necessarily the surgeon.

    I was numb and scars tender for a month. Your body just underwent a major surgery, it should go away in short time.

    It is almost inevitable that the body will go into "Starvation Mode" and protect itself by retaining fat. Don't forget the sleeve is only meant to lose about 50 to 60% of the excess weight. For instance at time of surgery I had excess weight of 86 pounds so I should lose somewhere between 43 to 51 pounds. I already lost 37 pounds in 2 months so over the next 10 months I should only lose between 6 to 14 pounds. Look at your excess weight at time of surgery (surgery weight - weight for your height). You may naturally be at the weight loss time frame for the year, it is supposed to taper off over time.

    If stomach is relatively empty, water will pass relatively quickly and pobably will not cause expansion of the stomach which is more likely caused by overeating as the digestive track has to break down the solids.

    Should I or Shouldn't I?

    I suggest listening to doctor, the doctors at Kaiser really steer people away from lap band due to continued problems. Wake up to see the damage a lap band does when it works it way into the tissue and then major surgery is required. Assuming you can now maintain your weight without devices such as lap band or sleeve perhaps you just have the band removed and just remember not to over eat. My doctor says malnutrition is not a problem, usually, with sleeve as all the food passes through the entire intestine where Vitamins and minerals are absorbed. Listen to your doctor, you are rather young and to have continued problems for three years should tell you something. Just get a second or third opinion and make your decision. Which is more important, long term health or $6,500?

    WoRk It BaBy!!!

    I didn't get back to working out until week three and it took a week to get up to a mile on the treadmill and then got up to normal 1.5 hour workouts around week 5. Surgery just saps your energy at first. A bit weaker than prior to surgery but building it up again. I use a personal trainer who has and had others with the bypass surgery so she keeps me from doing more than I am capable. Started off sweating quite a bit, now getting back to normal sweating at 7-8 weeks post operation. Typically, I run for 25 minutes and then do combination of resistance and cardio exercises that trainer sets up.

    Pills

    Post surgery I was only one one prescribed pill (antacid) and advised to take a stool softener. Some of my vitamins and minerals (fish oil) is huge and just take one at a time, no crushing. Just space them out. If you like to crush them then crush them, I would suggest getting a real mortar and pedestal.

    I was swallowing large gulps of water at four weeks and can finish an 8 ounce cup in a few minutes though not advisable to drink that fast.

    Mushies?

    At two weeks I had real chicken and post roast. Just chew around 50 times. Also able to eat normal 5 inch plate. I am around 7-8 weeks out and eating normal. At a few days, I still wasn't thinking about eating much and stuck to things like apple sauce, Jello, pudding, deviled ham and such. Just have patience. I tried some fajita and between the spice and flour tortillas it didn't stay down so when you have your taco meat, flour tortilla is like uncooked bread it is not advisable and corn tortilla may be a little rough until you get a couple of months out. Check with your doctor on that.

    loss of social life

    Agree with many others, once you have the surgery you will not miss the eating. Think about, right now the food and drink are controlling your social life. Once you get rid of that you will be in control of the food and drink. Suggest start reducing the drinking now so you will have easier time later. Like getting off cigarettes or anything else just need to make commitment.
  18. Sorry to hear about the extended puree diet. Use some gravies with your meats in the blender. I found just chewing about 30 to 50 times pretty much purees anything naturally. Try different meats like italian sausage in the blender with some tomato sauce. Try an oldie, Deviled Ham and Deviled chicken. Steam vegetables until real soft Bananas soft scrambled eggs poached eggs Cottage cheese Greek Yogurt (higher in protein) than normal yogurt Mixture of Ricotta Cheese, tomato sauce and hamburger Just go up and down all the aisles of the grocery store you will find more stuff

    Checked with my doctor who checked with another specialist. They say it is not hormones. They said it is probably as weight is lost the body is operating more Efficiently and you will sweat more as exercise occurs

    Don't give up on carbs entirely. When you exercise you burn carbs first so you may want to eat some toast before working out else you may do damage to muscle. Check with your doctor and if you havd one personal trainer

    I find white bread and tortillas make me throw up. Wheat for some reason stays down. I suspect just need to toast white bread more

    I find that post surgery I sweat profusely while working out. Before surgery I sweated a lot less with more strenuous workout. Interesting about the hormone levels, may check it put don't really want to tamper with body to much.
  23. When doing the shakes use fat free milk. Fir me it makes thicker and adds another 9 grams of protein

    two weeks out I just started on solid foods, my doctor didn't seemed concerned. The whole purpose of soft stage is to build you back up to solids but doctor said after two weeks internal staples are healed and as I told him, he sorta agreed, chewing something like meatloaf, chicken, even pieces of steak 50 times is like putting it in the blender. Just try small amounts of things and see what stays down and doesn't come back up
