  1. At a month I was eating the 5 inch plate of food for dinner. Light Breakfast, Protein shake or bar lunch but a fairly normal dinner. As for stomach stretching and what I have read it is mostly an Old Wives Tale, the stomach will stretch and contract naturally even people who practice those Hot Dog eating contests don't stretch their stomachs, they just get used to eliminating gag reflex and get used to inhaling, their stomachs do not remained Stretched. Water and liquids pass fairly quickly and food, from what i read , in about 30 minutes. the reason the digestive process takes 24 hours is food passing through the intestinal track not the stomach. Check with your doctor about your worries so they will go away.
  2. You get to choose, met with Dr. Belzberg at South Bay and he went through options. Suggested since I only had 50 or so pounds to lose to go with Sleeve instead of Bypass.
  3. Sounds like it is fairly normal. I eat a normal amount for breakfast, if I remember a mid day snack of fruit cup or jello, light lunch like a protein shake or bar, and a regular dinner (practically a normal presurgery plate) and then fruit later on. Still not all that thirsty and have to try to remember to take water. Don't know for sure but I think part of it is not enough calorie intake and brain is telling you to eat more to get out of starvation mode.
  4. Started regular fruits at week three, nectarines, apples, etc. Had to peel the fruits and stay away from things with seeds until allowed. Typically put half banana into protein shake to add some flavor.
  5. Newbie, You and I are similar height and bone structure. I think once you get to about 190 to 180 you will feel otherwise about 165 let alone 135. Most of the people I know don't think I really should lose anymore. But I want to get down to 180.

    Protein Ideas PLEASE

Protein Bars, Roast Beef, Chicken, Turkey, Deviled Ham. I find things just by taking time to walk each aisle in grocery store looking at everything edible.
  7. I take Mens One a Day, B-12, B-1, D, Calcium, E, and Fish Oil. There isn't a carbohydrate in any of them. Maybe you need to get away from the gummies which may the source of the carbs.
  8. Change vitamins. I take Men's One a Day B-12 B-1 Fish Oil Calcium E Not one carbohydrate in any of them or at least not so much as to register a gram. May just be the gummy part of your vitamin.

    BitterSweet :) :(

Eat the carbs before working out as they are burned first before hitting muscle. Eat Proteins after workout. Supplement with Protein shake (130 calories and 23 grams protein) Protein Bars (low fat like Power Bars about 205 calories and 14 grams protein). Fat free cheese (25 calories and 5 grams protein) Fat Free Milk, 1cup (90 calories, 9 grams protein) Greek Yogurt (160 calories, 14 grams protein) Fat Free Cottage Cheese. 1/2 cup (80 calories, 13 grams protein) Mix up routine. DO NOT just do Zumba. Your body will adjust to workout, memory has muscle as well as brain. Incorporate some weight training, running, bicycling. Try a personal trainer for a few weeks help break up routine and give instruction on how to burn the fat, not the muscle.

    Pre-surgery diet started today!

Hang in there, you can do it. One benefit of surgery is the part of stomach removed is the part that produces the hormones for hunger. After surgery you may not even want to see food for awhile.
  13. My original physician recommending me told me to get to 150 lbs, weight at which I am not even overweight for someone 5 foot 8 inches. Yeah! haven't been that light since college and going up to 305 lbs changed my frame. At 198 I have a good shape, outline of ribs. My current physician and I think 180 is lowest I should go making my bmi 27. Forget the 25, you have to consider as the weight comes off what is right for your body. 150 is ridiculous, I would look like a skeleton.
  14. Take the pain meds, my nurse said don't wait for it to hurt. It took me 7 to 10 days to lie down on the bed because of pain on staples. Sipping will pass in time, at 8 weeks out I am drinking full glasses of water at a time.
  15. I went into surgery, Thursday, August 4th. Out of hospital on Sunday, August 7th. Driving and working a couple hours on Monday, August 8th. I own my own business so had to get some work done at office and did some at home with my laptop. Found it easy to drive and sit up after surgery.
  16. I am sure when you walk by you are getting double and triple takes. Carry around the silver bullet to fend off the wolves!

To Tell or Not to Tell

I told family and some friends. Now when people ask me about what I did I tell them first 60 lbs diet/exercise and last 40 through sleeve surgery. Beforehand though I didn't think it was necessary to tell anyone except family.

    New to the group

The body adjusts to caloric intake causing stalls. To shake thongs up modify workout. If using a treadmill run for two minutes at 2npg the 2 at 4mpg the 3 at 5 mpg. This alternating up and down causes the body to change metabolism. Same with work out one day legs the aerobic maybe third time arms and back don't keep doing same exercises as muscle has memory and will adapt. As to food change up one I'm awile splurge make body get out of starvation mode then go back to fat free milk/yogurt and other low fat foods. My trainer helped me alot. You will hit levels that is normal get out of routine to shake system. Your brain is designed to protect itself and will offset what you do on a regular basis. To keep metabolism going take jump rope to work during breaks jump rope for two minutes shouldn't work up sweat but body will start to burn calories. Key is to keep metabolism furnace burning calories.

Welcome. Have you been tracking what you are eating, either lapband or sleeve you still have to be careful of what you eat, neither procedure is "solution" it is just a part of the "solution" The doctors at my Kaiser really got us to avoid lapband because of potential problems. Nothing like seeing a picture of a band digging its way into the tissue to get you to decide on the sleeve. I am eight weeks out and happy with my decision.
  20. Try drinking low cal cranberry juice or apple juice when taking the pills

Weight Training After The Gastric Sleeve Surgery?

Hitting the gym. Weeks 1-2 nothing. 3-4 rough low energy could only handle up to 30 minutes. Around week 5-7 endurance normal some strength loss. Now week 8 now sweating normal and getting strength up as well as normal endurance. Helps to have trainer so you have support and watch your back so you don't overdo. You will have some strength loss just relax you will rebuild
  22. Congrats. When is your surgery date?

    Carbs and calories?

I do keep a daily log of calories, protein and exercise. While I get the protein in, I am not getting enough calories so the log helps me to find ways of changing my diet to slow down the weight loss (I figure I am losing a 1/4 to 1/3 pound per day on average). You need carbs of course especially before working out since carbs burn first before taking from storage that affects muscle.
