  1. <BR><IMG class=bbc_emoticon alt= src="http://cdn.verticalsleevetalk.com/public/style_emoticons/%3C#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif"> Hey there!! I just had my VSG last Thurs 9/08. The surgery went fantastic, so I'm told! The immediate post op was a bit rough. I became very nauseated and it lasted about 3 days. Had to stay in the hospital for one extra day because I couldn't get my fluids in and needed the IV support. But, I am home now and recovering nicely.<BR><BR>Hardly any pain (only taken my liquid vicodin x1) Trying to keep hydrated and get the protein in which is quite the task!! The protein shakes are difficult for me to <BR>injest. I know I have to though for proper healing.<BR><BR>Anyhow, best of luck to you with the procedure. You won't remember anything in the OR. <BR><BR>Heres to being a LOSER!! <IMG class=bbc_emoticon alt= src="http://cdn.verticalsleevetalk.com/public/style_emoticons/%3C#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif"><BR>
<BR><BR><BR>Hi Robyn ~ <BR>How exciting for you to be already be on the other side!<BR>Keep up the good work --- and keep posting about your experience! <BR>We need to hear @ the reality of being sleeved...<BR>Thanks a bunch!<BR>

  2. I haven't been sleeved yet, but I suspect that quite a few people experience what you're experiencing...doubt & worry!I think that's a pretty normal (and even healthy!) reaction and I'm sure when I'm 3 days out from my surgery date, I'll be rowing the same boat...

Like you, I'm only arranging to take a week off --- once I lose a significant amount of weight, I'll be going for knee replacement surgery & will need LOTS more time off for that...so I'm saving as much as I can!

Please let us know how you're doing!

    Very best wishes!

  3. Hey Epiphany, good for you! My knees and hips were my major motivation for getting sleeved! I had a hip replacement at age 48, and at the time the doctor told me to loose weight to make the replacement last longer. Well what did I do? I gained weight, like 50 pounds of it! So now not only does my "good" hip hurt, but so does the one that was replaced 15 years ago. And of course, my knees hurt also. I dread having to have the original hip replacement re-done, and don't want to replace any other joints either, so I decided to make an investment in my future life, and try to loose weight for GOOD this time!

I am two weeks post op, and have lost a total of 34 pounds, 20 on the pre-op diet and 14 since surgery. I find getting on the scale every morning to be the high point of my day! I used to avoid the scale like poison! So congratulations and best wishes for a great outcome. Keep us posted!

    Hi Kathy ~

I know what you mean about getting on the scale! I'm enjoying it these days too! :)

My hope is that once I lose all this excess weight that maybe my knees will forgive me (!!) and I won't NEED knee replacement... not likely, I know, but I can still hope!

Congratulations on the 34 lbs lost!! That's fabulous!!

    Best to you!

    :)

  4. Hey Epiphany -

Just out of curiosity - what portion of the surgery does your insurance cover? I manage the benefits for our company and we do not offer WLS as an option - so I am going to Mexico where it is a lot cheaper and paying for it myself. At first everyone said "Mexico? Really" and then I tell them about this place where they treat you like you are a guest at a resort. Plus I talked to several people from town that went to this hospital.

Anyway - I would like to promote our work place covering a portion of this surgery and so I am curious how benefits are being managed. I notice that you have requirements before the surgery. Are all of the "pre-treatments" included in the cost or are they additional?

My sleeve is scheduled for Sep 2 and I don't have to do any kind of a diet until 3 days pre-op.

    Reb

    Hi Reb ~

I have a $5000 deductible for WLS --- not sure about all the other coverage details just yet... I have my 2nd appointment tomorrow & I'll be asking those questions. :)

Mexico is a lovely place!! I was lucky to be able to live in San Miguel de Allende for a year & absolutely LOVED it! Medical care there was just as good as any care I received in the states & yes, quite a bit less expensive!

    Best to you!

    :)

  5. Yay for YOU!!

    :)

I'm new here & reading as much as I can -- thank you for posting!

I know VSG isn't going to fix absolutely everything, including the desire to "stress-graze"...

it's nice to see a great example of owning your behavior & doing something positive

rather than falling back into old, defeating habits!
