  1. If you're anything like me......... I can seem to get wind in my sails and lose 20,30, 40, or even 50lbs (never made it to onderland) but I ALWAYS give up/get distracted/give in. And gain it all back. I needed this surgery. If I didn't need it I would have been thin since I went on my first diet when I was 7 years old. I'm almost 1 month out and know I made the right choice. I had several friends and family members try to talk me out of it but it didn't work. Unfortunately the statistics are that if an obese person loses weight through diet and exercise a crazy 95% of people will regain it within 3 years. That statistic was my deciding factor.

  2. It's too early to regret!! I think if you wait it out you will not have these feelings!! I am a nurse as well. I was worried a lot too.We know too much. We hear all the bad horror stories. When you get anxious just think about what your life will be like in 6 months!!!!! I am already feeling cuter, happier and excited for the future. People are telling me how great I look. And I am just one month out tomorrow. I can eat anything now just a very small portion. I do not feel deprived at all. (it is easy to feel like that when your diet is liquids) I know for a fact I could never maintain any weightloss for long- so this is my chance to feel and look great.

  3. To be honest the sleeve has been a magic wand (or tube as in this case :) for me. I have been overweight my entire life. I understand nutrition extremely well, have eaten Clean for over a decade, worked out, did all that, but couldn't lose weight. I am 10 days short of 4 months since the sleeve and I am down 79 lbs. For the first time in my life when I try I actually lose weight. And truthfully it has been easy!

And I am thrilled about that. What other freaking area in life do we purposely look for the harder way out?

I don't need the hard way to build character. I have put up with skinny people all my life without breaking too many of them, :-) I've done my character building the hard way!!! So has the sleeve been easy? Yes for me it has, not that it doesn't require work and effort. But I have worked much harder in the past with no results so it feels like magic!! When we have done the diets and struggled to lose two lbs and regain it and try harder and harder with no results and yet keep trying, THAT is the hardest!!! So, now, to make clean food choices and exercise and see the lbs actually drop, and keep dropping? Wow! It does feel easy!!! Even those of you who have lost slowly or even at a stall, I say heck yeah!!!! To you. You are losing!! And if your in a temporary stall your not gaining!! That is also success when you walk in our shoes. The journey has it's hard parts, most of the mental, but it has it's rewards that for us who understand, are beyond most things we have even dreamed about. So, I say chin up. Celebrate the parts that are easy! There are enough hard things to deal with. Revel in the new you, dream new dreams, never look back we have soo much joy ahead in this journey. Life is good, and the easier the better!!!!

Love all you on this journey! May your dreams not even come close to how good it really is!

I think I am gonna make this it's on post :-)

I totally agree with you. I have effortlessly lost 26lbs in 3 weeks and 2 days. I lost 25lbs in 2008 and it took 6 months and I was at the gym everyday for an hour and paying for personal trainers and buying expensive "diet foods" I can't wait to lose more!

  4. You will eat again! Even at 3 weeks out I'm eating eggs, ground turkey, string cheese, cottage cheese, refried Beans, super soft cooked carrots, tofu, yogurt, Soups, etc! I am sure i will be eating normal by week 6 to 8. I'm just not yet for safety reasons. food is different post-op you get satisfied easily and off of a few bites!

  5. Hi all, I am new to this site, but so far I LOVE it. I will do my intro post later this evening, but I wondered if any of you had an odd feeling on your tongue post surgery? It is hard to describe, but I will try:

(FYI I am 4 days post op - sleeved on 8/25/11, no complications, healing is going very well)

My entire mouth feels VERY dry, my tongue feels scratchy, and "coated" ...the taste buds seem weirded out. It's almost the same feeling as when you burn your tongue, but it's all over (And without the pain) It is really affecting my broth (SO tired of DAMN BROTH!!!!!!!..) and drink consumption.

Has anyone else had this? What is it from? Does it go away? When?

    Thanks in advance,

    GiGi

Sounds like you MIGHT have thrush, they usually give you IV antibiotics in the hospital, and sometimes that will cause yeast to grow. Its yeast on your tounge basically. I got it too. Showed up four days post op as well. I took a Diflucan pill and it went away. You should see your doc for this.

  6. Hi and welcome! I am like you in many ways. 28 as well, and I just separated from my fiance in May. LIfe is soooo much different. I did finally take the plunge to have the surgery after the breakup and it is sooooo scary but the future seems bright. We will figure this new life out!

  7. I am not sure but it was at least 2 or 3 months out. I used to slug a can of soda in 5 minutes, the first couple post-op took me an hour to down, now it takes me 20 -30 minutes and I actually ENJOY it more because I stop and actually taste it rather then let it slide down the hatch.

Thanks for the input. Thats when I figured I could have a few sips! :-)

  8. I make egg salad and thats pretty good. I didn't puree my tuna salad the tuna seems to break up really well if you mix it up well with mayo or miracle whip. Just take really small bites. Also try the Ricotta bake! I made it and ate if for days. I used super yummy Giadia DeLaurentis sauce from Target so it was extra delicious and satisfying!!

I am making a really tender roast tomorrow and I will see how that goes. I think that would tatse fine blended up a little???

Oh and don't forget refried Beans with smooth taco sauce, sour cream and melted cheese! very tasty.

    Shelly's Baked Ricotta

    8 oz of Ricotta cheese

    1/2 cup grated Parmesan

    1 large Egg, beaten

    1 teaspoon Italian Seasoning

    salt & pepper to taste

    1/2 cup Marinara Sauce

    1/2 cup shredded Mozzarella cheese

Mix ricotta cheese, parmesan, beaten egg, seasonings together and place in a oven proof dish. Pour marinara on top and top with mozzarella cheese. Bake it in the oven @ 450 for about 20-25 minutes (best) or nuke it till hot and bubbly. I usually made it first in the oven and heated the leftovers in the microwave.
