Welcome! So excited for you. In my opinion the first week post-op is NOT pleasant. BUT sooooo worth it in the end. I would do it again for sure. I went back to work as a nurse at a clinic a week later and did fine, naps are good early out. Good luck!

*Rolls eyes* Do I really have to give up Coke?!

I agree. I can't tolerate artificial sweetners so I work the extra cals in but cutting back elsewhere or I am more active. -
How exciting!!

*Rolls eyes* Do I really have to give up Coke?!
FishingNurse replied to MK1986's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
that's exactly what I drink. I waited 3-4 months I think. Started slowly. Drinking anything after 6 months is exactly the same as pre-op for me. Love my sparking water!!! -

I waited 5-6 months or so. It's worth the wait. I only drank a half at first. :-) -

FishingNurse replied to MK1986's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
it my opinion that isn't true. I drink 2-3 12oz sparkling waters everyday. I'm 19 months post op and have good restriction and have maintained my goal weight within 5 pounds for more than a year now. -
I agree, a few months. Just to be safe. Listen to your body!

Hey, My only concern would be coughing and possibly putting your staple line a risk early on. That's it. After you're healed, whatever floats your boat!

For some it's hard to just have one every so often. I personally have 4oz of regular soda twice a week, and 2-3 beers per week. Lattes-- no way, I have one everyday! Btw- I'm 19 months post-op. -
You look great!!!

Pregnant after 15 days of surgery? Im scared!
FishingNurse replied to Lina12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh my. You must have conceived a few days before surgery or something! I'm assuming they did a urine pregnancy test the day of surgery right? It might have been too early to detect. Call your surgeons office right away! -
What are some things that you cannot eat after surgery that you have before surgery!
FishingNurse replied to TTL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Early on chicken was a little tricky. But after the 3-4 month mark I eat anything and everything! Hence the name sleeve of steel! -

Thanks Cheri, as always, love your advice and comments. Can't wait to hear details about your little one soon! -
yes, I definitely drank a lot of milk after the first week of clear liquids and drank a lot of if for 2 weeks straight until I got to mushies... Then I could get protein elsewhere!
-
I am with you, I can't do anything artificial. I had some half strength juices watered down (they are so sweet anyway) and some regular Popsicles early on when it was hard to be on clear liquids for 1-2 weeks. Trust me I still lost oodles of weight. I still at 19 months out don't use fake sugar or fat free anything. It has worked for me!
-
oh wow! yikes-- a days worth of calories after all 3 meals have been eaten AND its only 6 dollars!

Yaaaaaaaaay, eggs, beans, potatos OH MY!
FishingNurse replied to newme31's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Personally I did not and do not eat low fat or low sugar/ sugar free anything post op. Everyone is different but it has worked for me. Fat is not a concern when you can only take in 400 calories a day so early on. When I can eat 5 bites of something I want it not to have added sugar because the fat has been removed, and I don't want the toxic fake sugar in sugar free stuff. I also think that you crave less when you have for example... full fat cheese instead of low fat. Its much more satisfying. I ate sugar free, fat free everything since I was 8 years old and I ended up 262lbs. I have maintained my weight loss goal +/- 5lbs for an entire year now NOT eating fat free and low fat stuff. This is just my opinion. Other ideas in the mushy phase: Greek Yogurt Egg Salad- Re-fried Beans with a little cheese and sour cream. Cream of wheat made with milk- amps up the Protein Baby Bel cheese-- if you let it get slightly warm it melts in your mouth. each has 6 grams of protein- I lived off of these for months! -
MUCH smaller! looking good!!

How is this possible?
FishingNurse replied to JessicaAnn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I read it all. I just want to stick up for the guy. You don't know what it's like to be more than a year out. It was harsh and rude. That could be anyone here including you in a few years. Please don't get angry just think before you say something so hurtful. -

that's a very harsh assessment. I don't think it's fair to judge. I can eat a bagel with cream cheese too. I have been at goal maintaining for a year. -

FishingNurse replied to JessicaAnn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I definitely can eat a lot more than I could in the first 6 months. I can eat a 6inch sub from subway with the top half of the bread removed for example, or 3/4 a small cheeseburger, minus the top bun for another example. Men will always eat a bit more than the ladies- their sleeves probably start off bigger, cause they are usually taller thus a "longer" sleeve. I think my restriction is the same as it was a year out. (I am 19 months out) Even if you do have less restriction than the first year its still possible to maintain your weight and make good choices. Soooo much easier now than pre-sleeve in fact! -
