Worried About Post Gastric Sleeve Surgery....
FishingNurse replied to mchez1986's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am going to be honest-- it was no picnic. But you will manage! I wasn't fully prepared for how I would feel post-op-- and I have been a nurse for 8 years! I really had no pain-- just discomfort in my abdomen and the more I walked, the better I felt. It is so nice to get the IV out of your arm and sleep in your own bed at home! Trust me I would do it again. Feeling how I feel now makes it sooooo worth it! -

FishingNurse replied to sirensiren's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

The Cons Of Gastric Sleeve Life! :-(
FishingNurse replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
the only con for me was the 1.5 months of actual starvation leading to the muscle I lost, and the hair I am losing now cause of that 1.5 months. BUT! I am rebuilding the muscle now, eating the right amounts of eveything to be healthy and lose weight. I could not have done this (or continue to do this) with out my sleeve so that 1.5 months was worth it!!!!! -

How Many Calories, carbs and protein After gastric sleeve surgery and recovery
FishingNurse replied to lilymorg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone is completely different. I only count protien- 80 grams a day or more and cals 1200-1500 a day. I'm definitely at the high end for cals compared to most people on the site. But that's what's working for me! -
After first it will be hard to drink even 8oz in a hour. Eventually when you are healed you can drink as before except with meals . (I do and have since 2 months out)

FishingNurse replied to notsochubbybritneyspears's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I havn't been quite so lucky, but I have only been noticing more hair on my jacket and brush in the past week. I have been taking biotin as well since 3 weeks out. I eat 80 grams of protien a day minium as well. My hair still looks thick.... as of now. 3-4 months out seems to be when is strikes- so you seem to be out of the woods!! Congrats and thanks for the tips I am going to try Nioxin. -

With The Lap Band, I Had A Pouch
FishingNurse replied to CowgirlJane's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
from what I understand there is still a risk of getting this condition--Megaesophagus but it is much less in VSG than it is with the band. The risks are greater in the begining when your stomach is still very swollen and healing. If you follow your plan there should be no problems. -

Am I Losing Too Slowly?
FishingNurse replied to Holiday's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think slower weight loss is healthier. I am purposely losing slowly to preserve my muscle mass, my hair, and to keep my skin tight-- so far so good!!!! -

My Stall Right Out Of Gastric Sleeve Surgery, How Did You Lose Yours?
FishingNurse replied to BettyBoop's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lose is spurts for sure. I won't see any movement for like 2 or 3 weeks and then I will drop 3-7 lbs in a few days!!! Its hard to not see the scale move for a long time. Its best to weigh like 2 times a month. Its hard to stay off the scale though!!! :boxing_smiley: -
Starting around 2.5 months out my sleeve definately was healed and the swelling was all gone and I can eat perfect sizes now! one egg and half an english muffin is a typical meal for me. It takes me about 20 mins to eat. Loving it! I was a little sad to eat half an egg in the beginning so now I feel like its much more reasonable and the weight loss is great!

I do not count carbs, but I don't have much room for them after I get my 80 grams of Protein in per day. I don't do sugar free, or fat free. I get a small latte everyday with 2% milk and regular vanilla syrup. I am 3.5 months out and 35lbs away from goal. I think all things in moderation is key!

Protein Shake A Must?
FishingNurse replied to Estella's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think the important thing is getting your 65+ grams of protien per day and if you can do this without having oodles of sugar and carbs you should be ok! The premade protien drinks are nasty. But if you buy powder (I buy from GNC- 20 grams per scoop, low carb) chocolate flavor and mix in a blender with milk, ice, Peanut Butter and half a banana it tatses like a shake from Dairy Queen. and its 50 grams of Protein. (the good whey kind) -

Slow Loser?
FishingNurse replied to DallasMomofTwins's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Start counting girl!! :-) Try to start with just counting protien. If you are not keeping track I can assure you that you probably not eating enough of it. If I don't keep track I end up with like 35 grams a day. I shoot for 80 grams per day. I find the weight loss completely stalls if I dont eat enough. Add in walking 3 days per week to start too and I think you will start to see the results!!! I keep track on myfitnesspal.com
