  1. Congratulations. Your journey has begun!!!! Take it easy, but walk, walk, walk and sip, sip sip. I'm sure you will do great.
  2. I agree that the feeling changes as I progress and get farther out from my surgery. However, for me, it has consistently been 2-3 hiccups when I am full. The important thing for me to remember is to eat slowly, chew, chew, chew and be mindful of what I am eating. It is 3 1/2 months since my surgery and now, I can look at the amount of food and almost tell how much to eat. As you eat more foods, you will begin to have a better understanding of how your body is reacting to different types of food and how your body will feel when you are eating it.

    Planning advice

I am 3 months out. These are the things that helped me after surgery: 1. Several kinds of Protein drinks, both sweet (like chocolate and vanilla) and tangy (lemonade, grapefruit) Proti sells these on line. I couldn't stand anything sweet so the lemonade and grapefruit flavors were my salvation. 2. sugar free popcicles. I ate a ton of them. Although they were sweet, because they were so cold, I had to have them. 3. Pillows to prop you up. It was much easier to get up out of bed when I was propped up. Also, a small pillow to "splint" your tummy when you are getting up off of a chair, sofa or out of bed. 4. A heating pad. I had back pain, I'm thinking because of the gas. Heat helped. 5. A thermometer. I had to take my temp several times a day. 8. peroxide...just in case you need it for your incisions...I needed to clean one of mine several times a day 9. Ice chips...only for the first day or two...I was sending family members to Sonic on a regular basis. 10. Gas x melt in your mouth strips. I jury is still out whether or not they actually help with the gas from the surgery. Some say it doesn't help with is type of gas, but others say it was a big help. I used them, but really cannot say that they did help or not. I did walked, walked, walked and then I walked some more, even when I didn't want to. Hope this helps

    PANIC

IT is difficult in the beginning to get in all the protein and liquids that you are told you should. My doctor kept telling me, do the best you can. This is a process. It was difficult for me to take the protein drinks for about 6 weeks. Proti 15 has powdered drinks that you can get that were my salvation. They have 15 grams of protein in in 8 ounces. I get them at my doctors office but they are available on the internet too. They also have a protein tomato soup that available on the internet. I think it is also made by Proti 15. Sugar free popcicles helped me to get some liquids in, although they do not help with the protein. I was also able to get tropical smoothies down. They will add soy or whey protein to any smoothy, dont for get to ask for splenda. They are a little high in carbs, but they helped with the liquids and the proteins in the beginning.

Should I go to the hospital?

Since you don't have a doctor to call, I would go in tonight and get checked out.

    need suggestions.....

I had to add salt to me diet as well because I was getting dizzy when I stood up. Soft cheese, peanut butter, one or two peanut butter crackers, potato protein snacks, hummus, slim jims, and canned soups are some of the things that helped me.
  7. The same thing happened to me. Drinking is soooo different from eating. The liquid goes through your new smaller stomach much faster and begins to empty out more quickly so I wouldn't be too alarmed. although you should still go very slowly. The Protein drinks were horrible for me the first month or so. I couldn't stand the smell, taste, texture yuck. Now, it is a different story. The taste is fine, the texture and smell are too. Your taste buds continually change, so if you have any on hand, don't get rid of them just yet. It might change for you too. I am 9 weeks out and not having any difficulty with the Protein Drinks at the moment. However, Proti 15 makes a lemonade that got me through the stage when I couldn't drink the sweeter ones. Good luck
  8. In the beginning, the proti drinks were the only protein drinks I liked. Now, I can drink the others but love the proti lemonade and grapefruit.

    coffee....

I never had any limits on coffee. I have had it several time (I'm 2 months out) but my taste buds have changed and I really don't want it anymore.

    Remove steri-strips?

I waited but on my 2 week visit, which was actually 12 days out, my doctor told me I could peel the rest off. A few fell off before hand but I could tell that my skin was pretty much healed. Still I waited until I got the "go ahead" from the doctor.

    3 DAYS TILL SURGERY!!!!

I only had someone with me for the first 2 days. By then I was able to do everything without assistance, although I was still sore and the gas was not completely gone. It was completely do-able. I was alone all day from day three and actually was very happy because I needed the rest and quiet. You should do fine. Each day got better and better. By day 5 I was driving...still a little sore...but really not bad.

    loss of social life

I don't think you'll have anything to worry about. I was sleeved 2 months ago and I have been out with my friends socially several times. If you are like me, your entire thinking will change about food and socializing. I order healthy options, bring the rest home and have it later. I really don't want to waste my time eating or drinking ANYTHING that does not have protein. If you knew me you would know this would never have happened before. It still takes me a long time to drink any liquid. Its a process that you will get used to quicker than you think

    Could use a pep talk!

Yes, My temp was 99 for a few days after surgery and I felt the same way you do now. I started to feel better in about 5 days. My doctor gave me a prescription for acid that I have to take for 3 months. You are experiencing the worst now. It will get better. Hang in and congrats on your surgery.
  14. What you are feeling is normal. Your body has just gone through a major trauma and is still trying to recover and to adjust. At first, we all loose a lot of weight because we loose all the excess water weight we have been carrying around. This happens if you are on the liquid diet before surgery or not. You could also be going through a stall right now, this will happen off and on during your weight loss. It is just our bodies trying to figure out what is going on ans what it should do for self preservation. It will get better.

    Food in my throat....

Yes, this is very normal, at least from my experience. My doctor told me to take small bites, the size of a pencil eraser, chew, chew chew and walk away from the food before you take another bite. At first, I waited 2-3 minutes in between bites. Now, I chew really well and wait for it to settle before I take another small bite. It will get better, just take a little while to get used to.

    If you could....

No, I would not do another type of weight loss surgery. I researched all types for a year, went to several weight loss centers to listen to their doctors and their presentations. The malabsorption issues, dumping and rearranging my organs turned me off. If I didn't hear about the sleeve, I wouldn't have gotten WLS at all.
  17. Everyone is different. Some people do not feel hunger some do. I can hear my stomach growl but I do not actually feel hungry, for the most part. Just because we might not feel hungry doesn't mean our stomachs will not growl. Also, the acid reducer helped after the first few weeks or so. You are still healing. If you are anything like me, that growling feeling will go away when you begin to eat real food again
  18. You will see that this won't be an issue. The first day, ice chips were my salvation. I could sip but I really didn't want to. My doctor told me my job was to walk and sip when I got home. Just take it easy and do the best you can. It will be be fine. Also, sugar free popcicles were great. The small medicine cups were very helpful. You learn pretty quickly how much you can sip...what feels good and what does not. Just remember, it is a process. You will be fine.
  19. I had my surgery done on Monday and was back to work on Friday. I didn't even stay in the hospital over night....surgery at 9:00am and home by 3:00pm. The first 2 days were the roughest, but overall not nearly as painful as I expected, more discomfort than pain. The tricky part for me was getting the liquids in while I worked. I really had to pay attention to sipping and making sure that I made an effort to keep track of the liquid. I was allowed to drive on day 3 but I had a family member drive me for the first few days. Also, I was still a little sore when I went back but not so bad that I couldn't work. If your recovery is anything like mine, you will be ok. There might be a few bumps in the road but you should be fine.
  20. I am 7 weeks today and I had my turning point at around week 5. I am lucky. I have never gotten sick but it too me until the end of week 5 before I could even think of getting more than 400 calories in. Although I noticed a turning point around week 5, I am still not getting all of my 90-100 grams of Protein a day. I am just now to the point where I can get my 64 oz of Water at day. Also just not getting between 600-800 calories a day. My doctors says it is a process and keep trying. Some days are easy to get close to the goal water, protein, and calories. Some days I can't even think about it. It will get better, just keep trying. If the Protein drinks don't settle well try Proti 15 lemonade, grapefruit, etc. These have gotten me through. I can't stand the vanilla and chocolate drinks.

    Watermelon

I too had my first bit of watermelon when I was on soft foods, just a tiny bit. DELICIOUS.

    What do I tell people?

To each his (or her) own. Do what is best for YOU. If you want to tell that is fine. If you do not want to tell that is fine too. It is no ones business how you loose the weight but they will ask so you should be prepared.

    how do i move on?

This forum has been a life saver to me. I was sleeved on 7/18/11, exactly 6 weeks today. At first, I thought I would never feel normal again. I had a day or two of what have I done, but for the most part have no regrets. That being said, I feel like I turned a corner between week 4 and 5. At first, I didn't think I would ever feel normal again until that time. I started to get most of my water and protein in, my routine became more normal. I feel like myself again. The only difference is that I feel like I am a picky eater, not a restricted eater. There are very few foods that I cannot not eat, but a lot of foods that I choose not to eat. Its not that I felt bad before, its just that I feel sooooo much better now. I think you are too soon in to see all the good things that are happening to you and will continue to happen. Although some of us had a shorter process than others making it to the actual surgery, all of us had many attempts at loosing the weight before we considered it. I bet you are the same way too. I think you will feel differently in the near future. Remember, this is a process. We will have our ups and downs. Own it and move on. One word of advice, that I have found helpful.... be prepared when you leave the house. Take snacks and always have something you can eat with you. You will not be worried about what you are going to eat and what people will think of you. It has worked for me, sounds silly, but it is great advice. Good luck

    Lightheaded and Dizzy

Yes, call your doctor to make sure everything is fine.... leave a message on their answering service if that will make you feel better. I was getting dizzy when I stood up and it still happens, sometimes. My doctor told me that I needed to add some salt to my diet. It has helped a lot.

I am so frustrated I want to cry

Don't be discouraged. It will get better. Remember, this is a process, but I understand where you are coming from because I have been there too. I was sleeved on July 18 and I still have trouble with the shakes. The one way I can handle the choc. and vanilla drinks is to put them in my "magic bullet" with ice and make a frozen drink. Somehow, it changes the texture or something and I have no problem with them. Try Tropical Smootie too. My NUT told me it was ok to have them as long as I do not make it an every day thing. PROTI 15 has a lemonade and grapefruit Protein that comes in packets. I get mine from the doctor's office but you can get them on line too. These have gotten me through many days. The hot choc is good, but very sweet for me, but I use it often. I hope this helps!
