Halloween (Oct. 31) - What will you Weigh?
Adri replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
First posting was on Sept. 5th. Well, it feels like it's going pretty slow, but today is Oct 5th and I've lost 7 lbs this past month. I just might make goal! -
Ditto what MsC just said. Being overweight and diabetic is a very good reason for having wls.

I can't wait to try these. Thanks for the tip! and thanks to you meggs for the thread!

Stopped taking Metformin -- signs of low blood sugar
Adri replied to MsC's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Now that sounds more like it. I am still on a small dose of insulin and my metformin, but I was taken off lisinopril about 2 mos after surgery. Yay, one less pill to take. I was severely insulin resistant, so I didn't expect to get off my meds right away, I am happy that the doses are now greatly reduced though!. -
Stopped taking Metformin -- signs of low blood sugar
Adri replied to MsC's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
(I have type II as well.) I'm not sure you can be positive they are low blood sugar symptoms without testing with a meter. Make sure you are getting in all your water so you can rule out dehydration. I think you should get a meter asap and let your doctor know how you are feeling. I wish you the best, take care!! -
I stay away from caffeine mainly because I am diabetic and I've read that it is a huge contributor to spiking blood sugar levels. And I have experienced this...drinking too much regular coffee makes me very hungry. I have found that Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks make great decaf coffees.
-
I use regular mayo and low fat dairy products. I stay away from sugar like the plague. Carbs are my enemy and also because I am diabetic. Sugar is high in calories and has NO nutritional value. At least good fats like olive oils can actually help your cholesterol. My go-to sweetener is splenda. I have been trying agave nectar as well because it is low glycemic, but I use it rarely.

Yup, with combos the drink is so tempting! My go-to fast food is a Taco Bell Fresco Crunchy Beef taco and an order of pintos and cheese. It is still a bit too much to eat but it's under $3. Can't beat that with a stick!! Or can you??? Taco Bell - Fresco Crunchy Taco Beef, 1 taco cals 150 pro 7 carbs 13 sugar 1 fat 7 Taco Bell - Pintos and Cheese, 1 serving - 128gmscals 170 pro 10 carbs 19 sugar 1 fat 6

Lactose Free Protein Drinks?
Adri replied to DisappearingDivis's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I'm lactose intolerant and Bariatric Advantage protein powder is lactose free. They taste good if you mix the powder with some lactaid or soy milk, not just water. They are real thick. I liked the banana flavor best, vanilla second and chocolate last; stay away from the strawberry it tastes like pepto bismol. They are a very nutritious, good quality product that you can order online. -
Celebrate pineapple strawberry chewables. They are tolerable and are choc full of everything wl patients need. You can order them online.

Hummus is a nice salty dip; and pnut butter too. Later on nuts are a good option. These are my go-to salty snack, in one convenient little package! Planters - Dry Roasted Peanuts, 1 oz (28g) / about 39 pieces cals 160 Protein 7 carbs 5 sugar 2 fat 14

Shirataki noodles are the bomb!
Adri replied to italianlady13's topic in Vegetarian, vegan, raw foods
I found them at a local health food store. Maybe Whole Foods has them. I know they can be ordered online too. They smell fishy in the package, but follow the instructions and they are great, they also take on the flavor of any sauce you put them in. I would never have known they weren't the real thing. They are fine for the soft food stage. I've heard the angel hair are the best tasting, those are the ones I bought. -

I agree. I bought the angel hair, and followed the recipe on the package for Pasta Primavera. Delicious and guilt free! -
Does anyone else here think that "finding" their collar bones is pretty damn cool?

Wait till you find your ribs!! -

Congrats to you. You look amazing!!

I've eaten Puffins (Original) a few times. It tastes kind of like a low sugar Cap'n Crunch. I find it at the health food stores. I love it, but I'm gonna stop buying it. I find that eating sugar and barely any Protein in the morning just makes me crave things and really sets the head hunger into motion all morning long. I have a feeling this may be a common reaction and that is why you don't hear a lot of people talking about eating it...they don't!!...and for good reason. I bought Kashi puffed rice instead which is lower in carbs/sugar and that does nothing for me...might as well eat styrofoam peanuts. So I think I'm giving up on cereal, I wasn't a big cereal eater before surgery anyway. I am going to go back to my part protein/part sweet standby breakfast of cottage cheese and peaches...or cottage cheese and applesauce. My go-to sweet breakfast on the weekends is Oasis brand low carb bread (6 carbs per slice) and a little Peanut Butter and fruit spread...this is my Saturday morning treat. Way fewer carbs and I get the protein in with the peanut butter.

You not only look leaner, you look taller too. Congrats! Thanks for sharing!!

Looking For The Best (Most Accurate) Scales
Adri replied to Bakomom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I've had a Tanita for about 8 years and it's just two lbs off from my surgeon's big, high tech scale. I bought it at Bed Bath and Beyond. They have a digital food scale on sale this week that I'm gonna go get with a coupon...$15. -
Thanks for the post, I've been wondering about this!

where do you fit your protein in? how do you get calories?
Adri replied to MeMeMEEE's topic in Food and Nutrition
AVOCADO! It is high in calories and healthy fats. Poach chicken breasts and shred them, smother them with avocado and it helps the chicken go down easy. At 5 weeks out I could also add a little cheddar cheese and taco sauce. It was delicious to me cuz I was tired of all the artificial sweet stuff...shakes, Jello, yogurt, pudding...blaaaa! (poached salmon will really up the protein)
