A Litttle Help Needed, Always Hungry After Gastric Sleeve Surgery
If I don't get the protein in I get those hungry feelings. Instead of the shakes you might want to try the bars. I just can't drink enough of the shakes (makes me gag) to feel full. Try to eat the proteins FIRST!!!! If you are really eating 80 grams of protein you prob won't have room for only a couple of teaspoons of the stuff you really should stay away from. Also.....alot of carbs (chocolate, ice cream, mashed potatoes) go down EASY but that does not mean you will loose weight if you eat them.....just saying.....good luck.....you are still early in the game so don't be too hard on yourself. I was not eating a good balanced diet until maybe month 2 after surgery.

6 months post VSG and Pregnant
Just be careful. I remember reading someone posted that ketosis from weightloss can cause brain damage so you are going to have to be careful to eat enough to stay where you are and NOT try and loose weight while you are pregnant. Congratulations! Children make life fun!!!!! You can always loose the rest of the weight afterwards! Congrats!!!!!

ongoing weight loss after 24 months?
This is just me....but if I ate that many carbs I would not loose weight either. Before you go and let them do that other surgery.....try eliminating the carbs and see what happens. Are you getting 80 grams of Protein in a day? I am just asking because I know if I fill up on the carbs (rice, bread, pasta) there is no way I get the protein in. The protein is what keeps you feeling full longer (or for me anyway). A day's menu for me goes something like this: Breakfast 2 poached eggs Snack String cheese lunch Baked chicken breast and green Beans Snack Nutts (pecans walnuts peanuts and NOT the honey coated kind dinner Baked fish and some kind of veggie (i avoid corn and carrots) like field peas, green peas Late night - if I have not gotten enough protein in I add a Protein Bar or powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken broth (20 grams protein) So far the weight is coming off 3-4 lbs a week for me. Just thought you might want some diet to compare to. Good luck in whatever you decide.

low carb low cal protein bars....
For me I have not really sat down to count them daily. I eat mostly Protein with a couple bites of veggies (mostly green ones....got used to not eating corn or carrots when I did Adkins diet) I am staying away from bread, rice, potatoes. Having said that sometimes at night I have a couple of teaspoons of whatever I cooked for family which might have rice or noodles in it. But I try to eat my protein first and use the side as a treat.

Soft food stage- out to eat?
Chinese resturant, egg drop soup. Crabmeat augratin/crab cakes at seafood resturant. Sweet potatoes and soup at steak resturant. Refried black Beans with queso Mexican resturant. You can still find stuff just have to be a bit more creative. I notice I order most of my stuff now on the "sides" side of the menu. My four year old and I split a plate now and we both get more than enough to eat. I enjoy the time with the family and not having to cook EVEN more than the just eating alot of food like I used to.

low carb low cal protein bars....
Well I had problems trying to find one that I could STOMACH never mind the carbs and calories. If you are only going to eat one a day (I use mine for Breakfast sometimes when I am in a hurry or for Meal Replacement if the cafeteria at work has something that I can't handle - greasy spagetti etc) If you are only going to eat one a day then you don't really have to stress about the carbs. My favorite one so far is Balance bar Peanut Butter flavor (blue and white and orange box sold at walmart) for about 6.00 you get 6 bars. It has 200 calories, 21 grams carbs and 15 Protein. I was looking MORE for a bar that had MORE protein. Also...SUGAR ALCOHOLS give me the farts (sorry if that is too much info....but just wanted to warn you because I have seen alot of people post it does it to them too) so I stear clear of those esp on the days I am working..........lolol.... If I eat 1-2 eggs in am. lunch of chicken breast couple bites of veggies dinner fish and few bites of whatever I made for family Snack of nuts or string cheese Protein Bar to make up if i have not met my protein for day Then I am still WAY under for carb count. I stay away from carbs because I noticed years ago I just don't loose if I eat carbs. After surgery I really only crave peanut butter and sugar free popsickles so for now I am staying away from carbs because I don't really miss them yet.

If I take a day off and rest then I feel great. I think it is just my body hard at work! It does get better. At 3 months it was really bad. Hope this helps!

The dreaded stahl!
Don't worry....I hit stalls all the time....I am on one now have been for 2-3 weeks........boo right? I have noticed that when I don't eat ENOUGH I stall. It is weird to think I need to eat MORE. What usually breaks the stalls is taking in more Protein. Changing something up.....like when I switched PPI and then got off PPI both of those time broke the stall. And my doc was the one that said increase the protein a little and see what happens and that broke a stall too. Good luck and know you are not alone! I guess it is just our bodies way of saying whoa....hold on there....slow down! LOLOL

Hair Loss Finish Line?
When I hit the 50 lbs mark my hair started falling out in handfuls. I started taking Biotin 5000 mg a day - was already taking Iron and multi. I have been getting in enough Protein. I have been on the biotin about one month now. Hair is still falling out in handfulls but maybe 15 strands and not 50........yes I freaked out too. I have alot of hair so no bald spots yet. Tub has hair all over when I get out.....gross....bathroom floor too....booo....but seems to be getting a little better (just have to stick in there is what everyone keeps saying) BTW ...biotin is making hair grow like CRAZY on my legs and underarms....just thought I would mention in case anyone has any facial hair problems might not want to go there?

The Dreaded Slimes
Alot of people have trouble with scrambled eggs (me too) poached goes down fine....the scrambled just is harder to digest....not sure why? And dense white chicken breast I have to put alot of ketchup or salad dressing on for it to go down ( I think it is too dry)
-
Not a protein drink....but protein jello
I think it is kind of misleading that on the outside of the product they put "whey protein" but on the listing put "collagen" first..........apparently whey is the new "in" protein...............how come they did not put "collagen" on the outside of the product?

Am I doing ok?
I was missing my morning coffee and so went back to drinking one cup of normal coffee in the morning (with my vitamins is how I justify it to myself) and all of a sudden the constipation went away??????????????hummmmm????????killed two birds with one stone!

I Need to Ask Some Questions
I did not start feeling "normal" until just after my 3 week visit. My doctor gave me Levosin after surgery which "calms" the stomach down and I could take it every 4 hours if I needed to on bad days when I felt like things were coming back up. It helps if you DON'T drink with meals (before or after 30 min) If you do drink it fills up your stomach too fast and I get a sick at my stomach feeling....not good. Gas X...chewables.....I LIVED on them for the first 4-5 weeks. They help the trapped air feeling alot. It does get better....I was sleeved in May, I have lost quite a bit of weight and now feel like I can eat a normal meal. I cut my stuff up small, chew it alot and eat the Protein FIRST. For the first 4 weeks - you should try to be more worried about the liquid intake so you don't get dehydrated.....sugar free popsickles, Jello, crystal light.....water. Don't worry so much about the shakes and protein. Concentrate on what stays down. Egg drop Soup was really good for me at your stage. I just can't stomach the shakes.

Am I doing ok?
Hey fellow May sleever! I was sleeved 5/23/11! I think you are doing GREAT! I just went for a doctor's visit...was really my 3 month but I had to reschedule....so it was a little late. He gave me a big high five and two thumbs up.....and you and I have lost about the same amount so I would say you are doing fine. He did up my Protein to 80 (was 60-70) because I complained of hair falling out in clumps. He said not all I was eating is absorbed ....some can pass by unabsorbed. He said I could try Biotin...wouldn't hurt. Some people have luck with it some don't. I am taking it now (5000 mg Walmart) and the hair on my legs (and other places) is growing like CRAZY.....hair still falling out on my head but I THINK it is slowing down........a little...........ok maybe just wishful thinking on my part????Still all over tub and floor of bathroom every morning......... BUT I FEEL GREAT! Hubby says it is like having a new wife ....I have more energy, am in better mood, still get tired sometimes esp on the day the scale seems to move but not sure if that is in my head or real? I noticed on the days I am off I eat more protein and calories and the scale moves 2-3 lbs.....weird!!!!!!!!! When I am working I work 12 hour shifts and get the protein in but sometimes the calories are low.............scale does not move. Good luck! Nice to see someone else that I have something in common with! CONGRATULATIONS on your hard work so far...........I know it is not easy to drink that much and eat what you are supposed to everyday! GOOD JOB!!!!!!!!!!

Question about goal weight versus Dr's goal weight
My doc has a fancy scale that measures your bones, muscle mass, water weight etc....and it calculates where your ideal weight will prob be.
-
Why would you say that?
Three people at work asked me if I have cancer. Apparently there was a conversation in the ER and someone jokingly said that is how I had lost the weight.....funny......why would someone even JOKE about that????????? I did go buy scrubs which I was not going to do yet..........but apparently since I look like SH** I felt like maybe that would make me look better and not like a cancer patient. LOLOL.... OH well I feel better and have been very happy lately...............SO GOING TO LET IT ROLL OFF MY BACK AND YOU SHOULD TOO.........we don't need negativity..........the sleeve is a good thing...........and as long as it is going in the right direction keep inching along and let the negative people stew in their own unhappiness!
