    Ladies, I need your help

Zoo picnic lunch? With bottle of wine ! Or better yet some fancy frozen drink with an umbrella in it! I also love the water park (if you have one near you) and the beach but we never seem to get there until company comes and then we talk about how it does not cost much and feels like we are on vacation. Congrats!!!

    Scared! At ER :(

Ask your doctor to test you. Ddimer test is for blood clots. Uric Acid test is for gout. Did they run either of those on you? If it is stil red couldn't hurt to ask!

    Should I be concerned?

Same thing happened to me. Doctor said not to worry unless redness got bigger than quarter. Four weeks after surgery all scabs were gone and one stitch formed a little pimple thing that I accidently scratched and the stitch came out. After it healed all up. Weird.
  4. It is prob ketosis from loosing weight. Use a tongue scraper. I use mine now every day. Also if you were given high dose antibiotics during surgery it could be thrush (yeast infection). - but my guess is ketosis. Good news means you are loosing weight!

    surgery and TOM

Feeling your pain....had Tom and cramps from hell the night before my surgery...and you can't eat or drink after midnight so nothing....ugggg.....and no motrin for 2 weeks before so they were awful.....they make you wear a pad to surgery then back in room you can wear whatever. Good news is liquid lortab and morphine wipe those cramps right away....so if you were worried about pain don't be!!!
  6. Hi all. My insurance Humana (but alot of Humana are different for different companies) would not pay any of the sleeve surgery. So I did cash pay. Now I need to see about having another surgery (tubes tied). I have basic receipts that say the total amount paid and to the doctor and hospital but I am not sure this is going to swing proving to the insurance company I have paid enough out of pocket for the year. Our out of pocket in network and out is 4,000 and it was wayyyy over that. I called the doctors office and since I have paid up my bill with them, they really do not want to get involved. She is sending me a "statement" whatever that is.......anyone else run into this problem? Also for filing on taxes next year .....so all you show is your receipts??? CPA said anything surgery over 10,000 should be deductible.... Thanks!

Come the weekend cheat a little more (1/2 sandwich on bread) and loose 3-5 lbs????? weird but ok....it has to be not enough calories because i am doing everything else right??????
  8. Thanks for the info. I am still going to send it in and see what they say. I will post later and let you guys know how it comes out. At least now I am not expecting much. Still glad I did it!!! Thanks again!

    Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My doc put me on levosin (gave me 150 of them) (he gives it to all his patiets at surgery) and said I could take them every 4 hours as needed the first couple of weeks for spasms. They really helped the first few weeks. After about 2 weeks I did not need them anymore. See if they will let you try those! Also - are you having any gas? Gas can feel weird pushing feeling too. Chewable GasX did the trick. I was eating them alot the first couple of weeks. Now I don't need them anymore. (I had my sleeve May 23) Hope this helps! It does get better....stick in there!

    Post Op Protein

It does get better. For now concentrate on drinking and staying hydrated. My doc said don't push the protein for a couple of weeks. Work your way up. It will get easier after some of the swelling goes down to drink the clear fluids. But when you do eat try to eat something with a little protein in it even though you won't be eating much at first.

    Hiccups

They gave me levosin (hope I spelled that right) for spasms. I got the hiccups alot at first esp if I was too "full". It got better.
  13. Hey just wanted to chime in here (lab rat going on 25 years this next year).....look on your CBC (cell blood count).....the MCV (Mean Cell Volume) is a better indicator of Iron stores. When your iron stores get low your body starts producing SMALLER red cells. Your MCV should be 76-100. When you see it less than 75 you have tiny (microcytic) cells. This is due to low iron. You can look up "iron deficient anemia" to see symptoms. Your ferritin is directly linked to your low iron. Your body only makes new red cells around every 120 days.....so you have to take iron for MONTHS to get your stores back up (hard to explain this to people...they take iron for one week and wonder why they don't feel better - it takes MONTHS) Prealbumin is also directly related to diet. Malnourished SEVERE is less than 8. Mild is 12-15. Moderate is 8-10. So yours at 17 is fine. Yes it is on the lower side but I think if someone did a study the general population of sleevers normal is prob alot lower than the population of people who are eating alot more. Also....serum iron of 42 is wonderful especially for females. I run them all day long and most females run in the 30's. Make sure you don't take iron the night before or the morning of your lab tests and are measuring what is really in your bloodstream and not what you just ate . Parathyroid is on a NEGATIVE feedback loop with calcium. Calcium goes up parathyroid goes down. Calcium goes down parathyroid goes up. Normal parathyroid is 10-60. My doc has me on: Bariatric Advantage Vitamins....Folic Acid 800 mcg, iron 18 mcg - plus alot of the B vitamins Plus B complex Vitamin which has more folic acid, Biotin (yea helps with loosing hair) more vit b 12 and more b vitamins Plus Chewable iron 29 mcg a day B12 sublingual 1000 twice a week so far my labs look great. good luck. No worries your labs are ok.

    Magic bullet

Glad you asked first....I can save you 49.00 dollars here.....the bullet makes stuff too foamy (protein shakes) and foamy=painful gas burping. So if that is what you are using it for don't bother. Also...for making chicken salad etc like they do on tv....does not work. The bottom chops up ok....but the top binds and you have to take if off and on and stir alot. I went back and got a little food processor that works better for that. The only thing I use it for is for making crystal light snowcones.

    Antimicobial Skin Cleaner

Yes was told pre op to soap up with Hibicleanse (sp??) from head to feet start with head....and let it sit 10 min and then rinse.....was to do it once the night before and once the morning of surgery. She also said to use a different wash cloth for head to stomach....and butt to feet different one (so as not to cross contaminate) forgot all about it until you asked.
  16. Jackie....I know what you mean and I feel the same way about people embrasing their size and not feeling bad about whatever size you are. I have alot of overweight friends and I could care less what size they are. I see the beauty in the inside. But the older I get - and the more I see (I am a supervisor in Blood Bank in a hospital lab) sooner or later the weight catches up with you. The weight was creeping up on me a pound here and a pound there....but I am never sick and never miss a days work. Suddenly at 230 and 5'1" I am 45 and my blood pressure gets too high. Next my fasting glucose starts creeping up. Gallbladder forms stones and has to come out. Knees take a pounding and two knee surgeries later I finally made my decision to have the sleeve surgery. I am just saying that sooner or later your health would not have been as good when you are overweight. That is the simple honest truth. I am glad I had the surgery. I have a 3 year old and need to stay healthy for the next 20 years Don't beat yourself up. You are still healing for the first 4 months at least. Sometimes the tired/sad feeling is just from not eating enough and loosing weight and not taking time to rest. Happy thoughts. Breath deep!

My guidelines say NO Grits (i think while healing? My nut said they swell) Nuts are ok at week 7 - it suggests almonds. Difficult meat (steaks) wait until 16 weeks after surgery.

Start vit on day 7 if not nauseated. I actually moved up on foods a little quicker than what it says but everyone said NOT to do so before day 14 - which is the two week mark when the staple line is less likely to get "leaks" funny how the different docs have different lists??? hope this helps

    Depressed 2 months post op

Hey...we were almost done at the same time ! I have had some stalls too! I noticed when I was not eating ENOUGH I stalled.....how many calories are you eating? I had cut out carbs all the way and apparently my body did not like it. I did not do it on purpose....I was just full when I had finished the protein and was not getting them in. Also...I noticed when I did not take calcium I loose slower???? Weird. I also switched acid pills (not on purpose) and that broke a couple days of stall. When I drink more water that helps also. Just some ideas! Lay off the alcohol. Your poor body is not healed enough for a hangover yet....lolol....too hard on your liver too which is already working overtime to process all that protein. Try to stay OFF the scale and think positive, happy thoughts and when you feel the urge to drink go do something positive like take a walk and breath deep. Sending you some happy energy! You can DO THIS....take it one hour at a time!

    Cramps

I have noticed my period is much worse since I have had the sleeve surgery. Not sure if it is the estrogen released by the fat loss? Or it could be I always used to take motrin all the time (several times a day) because my knees hurt and now that I have lost some weight my knees are not hurting anymore? Anyway....I have noticed I can just take one tylenol (and I used to take at least two). Does a smaller stomach absorb it quicker or something???? I was told not to take ibuprophen but am going to ask at my 3 month apt. because I see others posting it is ok after it has healed.

17 days post op and bad headache

Right....dehydrated....I noticed since after surgery.....pain in my back or a bad headache means I did not drink enough!!! Drink water and tylenol.....hope you feel better!!!
  25. I know everyone is tired of hearing from me (hahah) about how gross the protein shakes are. I have tried about 6 different kinds (and they are all expesive) and still cannot tolerate how gross and thick (and yes I have tried water, milk, ice, blending etc) ALL of them gross me out and make my stomach feel bad. I can tolerate the chicken broth from Unjury. That is how I am doing it. I have not tried the clear protein drinks yet.....going to do that my next day off. With the chicken broth from Unjury I am getting about 70 protein a day.....that is the best I can do for now. Good luck with the chicken. I know JUST how you feel about the protein!!!
