    Am I doing ok?

I was missing my morning coffee and so went back to drinking one cup of normal coffee in the morning (with my vitamins is how I justify it to myself) and all of a sudden the constipation went away??????????????hummmmm????????killed two birds with one stone!
  2. I did not start feeling "normal" until just after my 3 week visit. My doctor gave me Levosin after surgery which "calms" the stomach down and I could take it every 4 hours if I needed to on bad days when I felt like things were coming back up. It helps if you DON'T drink with meals (before or after 30 min) If you do drink it fills up your stomach too fast and I get a sick at my stomach feeling....not good. Gas X...chewables.....I LIVED on them for the first 4-5 weeks. They help the trapped air feeling alot. It does get better....I was sleeved in May, I have lost quite a bit of weight and now feel like I can eat a normal meal. I cut my stuff up small, chew it alot and eat the Protein FIRST. For the first 4 weeks - you should try to be more worried about the liquid intake so you don't get dehydrated.....sugar free popsickles, Jello, crystal light.....water. Don't worry so much about the shakes and protein. Concentrate on what stays down. Egg drop Soup was really good for me at your stage. I just can't stomach the shakes. unjury sells a chicken soup broth that has 20 grams protein per cup. I still drink about a cup a day. It is just alot thinner than the shakes and goes down well. It is also easy for me to make little containers of the powder and take to work and I don't have to worry about milk and or blender etc. I think Unjury is only sold online. I had reflux BAD at first....doctor fixed a hiatal hernia when he did my sleeve(that is prob spelled wrong haha) not sure if that is what made it worse? but anyway....quit my acid pill two weeks ago (my doc said to if i wanted to) and have had no acid issues YEA! IT DOES GET BETTER..........HANG IN THERE!!!!

    Am I doing ok?

Hey fellow May sleever! I was sleeved 5/23/11! I think you are doing GREAT! I just went for a doctor's visit...was really my 3 month but I had to reschedule....so it was a little late. He gave me a big high five and two thumbs up.....and you and I have lost about the same amount so I would say you are doing fine. He did up my Protein to 80 (was 60-70) because I complained of hair falling out in clumps. He said not all I was eating is absorbed ....some can pass by unabsorbed. He said I could try Biotin...wouldn't hurt. Some people have luck with it some don't. I am taking it now (5000 mg Walmart) and the hair on my legs (and other places) is growing like CRAZY.....hair still falling out on my head but I THINK it is slowing down........a little...........ok maybe just wishful thinking on my part????Still all over tub and floor of bathroom every morning......... BUT I FEEL GREAT! Hubby says it is like having a new wife ....I have more energy, am in better mood, still get tired sometimes esp on the day the scale seems to move but not sure if that is in my head or real? I noticed on the days I am off I eat more protein and calories and the scale moves 2-3 lbs.....weird!!!!!!!!! When I am working I work 12 hour shifts and get the protein in but sometimes the calories are low.............scale does not move. Good luck! Nice to see someone else that I have something in common with! CONGRATULATIONS on your hard work so far...........I know it is not easy to drink that much and eat what you are supposed to everyday! GOOD JOB!!!!!!!!!!
  4. My doc has a fancy scale that measures your bones, muscle mass, water weight etc....and it calculates where your ideal weight will prob be.
  5. Three people at work asked me if I have cancer. Apparently there was a conversation in the ER and someone jokingly said that is how I had lost the weight.....funny......why would someone even JOKE about that????????? I did go buy scrubs which I was not going to do yet..........but apparently since I look like SH** I felt like maybe that would make me look better and not like a cancer patient. LOLOL.... OH well I feel better and have been very happy lately...............SO GOING TO LET IT ROLL OFF MY BACK AND YOU SHOULD TOO.........we don't need negativity..........the sleeve is a good thing...........and as long as it is going in the right direction keep inching along and let the negative people stew in their own unhappiness!

    Throwing up

It takes a while for your stomach to get used to meats again. And as for bread......I was sleeved in May and this is almost October .....4 months and I still have trouble with bread. It fills me up in a most uncomfortable way. I started out at work eating yogurt, string cheese, chicken noodle Soup, turkey lunch meat the one sliced really really fine and chew chew chew, smooth Peanut Butter on saltine cracker more peanut butter than crackers though, poached eggs, refried Beans with grated cheese on top. Baked fish goes down really easy and I did alot of fish at first. I also like the imitation crab meat (which is really fish too). Stay away from greasy as that might upset tummy too (mayo etc). Ketchup & salad dressing is what I use for dry meals. Bread, rice give me a too full hurting tummy feeling. For some reason real chicken tenders fried go down better than baked.....but I only do fried foods once in a while. I would not suggest ground meat at first. Red meat (even ground) is hard to digest. Hope these tips help! Need to change ticker again.............163 yea!!!! It does get better!

    Losing hair

My hair is/was falling out in CHUNKS....did not start until I hit 50 lbs. I talked to doctor last week about it and he up'ed my Protein from 60-70 to 80. He also said make sure I was taking my Iron (which I was levels looked great). He said anestesia and surgery will both stress the body out and make hair fall out. It is a natural cycle and after being so many weeks months dormant the hair will start growing again. He said Biotin would not hurt (did not say it would help either lol) So I am taking 5000 of biotin cheap that I bought at Walmart. I have noticed the hair on my legs is growing like crazy since I took the biotin.....so apparently it works all over your body. I have alot of hair on my head but I have to say the first time it came out in large clumps really freaked me out! (and my hubby too) I still have alot of hair and not sure anyone noticed but me. The doctor said that all of the protein you eat when you are trying to hit a number like 60......some of the protein passes through you and might not get absorbed....so you should go over a little to make sure you get it all in. Been on the biotin two weeks....still falling out.....does not seem quite so much.....but then I have up ed the protein too......will let you guys know. HUMMMM.....I DID NOT ADD A LINK TO WALLY WORLD THAT SHOWED UP ABOVE????????HOW DID THAT HAPPEN???WEIRD THINGS GOING ON HERE????
  12. I did not know the difference in the calcium and started taking viactive chocolate chewable and they are just like a tootsie roll. Labs look GREAT.....doctor said keep doing EXACTLY what you are doing so I am. I can't imagine taking six more pills a day.....I do all my Vitamins in the am with coffee (I do a chewable multi pinapple flavor from the Vitamin shop Nature's plus adult chewable, a b complex put out by BA pill that you swallow, Biotin I added when my hair started falling out, sublingual b12 twice a week from ba, and a chewable vitamin d that is chocolate flavor, and Iron pill chewable passion fruit ba) I just stopped the acid pill one week ago and so far so good......don't want to take it if I don't have too....I had to at first for reflux but now seems fine. I do my chewable calcium at night like a treat. I know everyone says the other calcium is better but my labs look AWESOME!!! Need to change my ticker again....lost 2 more lbs....164. yea!

    People who have a nutritionist...

I did not ask about carbs. I was told at least 1000 calories a day. 80 Protein (but then I was in there complaining about my hair falling out so maybe that is why he moved it up from60-70?) That sounds like alot of carbs to me......do you mean maintenance like after you have lost all the weight? I don't loose weight (and never have) if I eat alot of carbs....but that might just be me. I will be interested to see what others post. Thanks for posting....I learn something new everyday here. I still want to loose at least 30 more lbs so am not at "maint" yet.
  16. I think I mostly took chicken noodle soup (small stars) and chewed it really well. Just remember whatever you try......try it first at HOME. Mayo did weird things to my stomach at first (diarrhea) but now is fine. You don't want to spend the day in the bathroom at work!! If you are at the cheese stage, string cheese travels well and yogurt. It takes some getting used to much smaller containers for everything......not eating the junk crap in the cafeteria......I put Protein bars in my purse just in case. Whole new world but it does get easier! I need to change my ticker.....lost two more lbs....

I Don't Know What to Eat?

Pulled out my handout from surgery (LA Surgical Specialists in Louisisana) ___________________________________________________________________________________________ Week 7 Fluid intake 48-60 oz day Protein 60-80 grams a day Continue with previous stages and move on to salads with minimal amounts of low calorie dressings. Add lean ground meats from turkey and beef (2-3 oz serving) and baked chicken. You can add plain or lightly salted nuts (one 2 oz serving a day) Almonds are the best choice. ______________________________________________________________________________________________ Adding my own note here - I am 3 months out.....I still can't eat lettuce, raw broccoli. They sit on my stomach. And I have not tried celery ever since I read about the ball of threads it formed in someone's stomach. I have not tried steak as my doc said to wait 16 weeks. I eat most everything else. Tomatoes and cucumber I cut seeds out (for now) and they seem to go down better. I eat some of the same meats as before but smaller portions and try to get grilled not fried. I do enjoy a handful of nuts sometimes.....I enjoy pecans and walnuts but you have to chew them well! good luck!
  20. I am like you. The only way I get in 60+ is if I drink my unjury Protein broth so I am going to love seeing what everyone replys. Typical day: Breakfast - one egg poached (15 protein) Am snack - one string cheese (9 grams) Lunch- grilled chicken breast ( 20 grams) plus a couple nibbles of veggies Pm snack - yogurt or string cheese or good sharp cheese (9 grams) Supper -something like what the family eats but I eat more of the meat and a couple nibbles of whatever else they have - 10-20 grams And usually I have not gotten to 70 grams (what dr. wants) so I have to drink my Unjury chicken broth (20 grams) I am not as hungry as I used to be and I really have to TRY to get the needed protein in. I was falling short a while back and while I still lost weight - I hit some stalls - and are now loosing hair in handfuls - and just wonder to myself if the short on protein is what did it? Someone posted a while back that they did not want to snack all day? but I see no other way of getting in that much protein......they posted about the "slippery slope" of snacking......all the while I was thinking to myself ......how else would I get that much in.......I can't drink the shakes they make me hurl.......and the Protein Bars are higher in calories...........so I end up HAVING to eat all day. decisions decisions.................lolol.....Interested to see what others post!

    Should I postpone surgery??

Don't worry about what he will eat and you eating differently. I noticed since I am eating better my family is too and that is a GREAT thing. I am buying more healthy Proteins (chicken, Peanut Butter, cheese) and less chips and junk. Hubby has gone down a pants size without even trying. My 4 year old eats healthier too (fruit, cheese, chicken, nuts) and since I am 3 months out and eat smaller portions, she and I make healthy Snacks and meals and enjoy our new way of eating together. Glad you decided to do it. I am alot like you - always put everyone else first - that is part of being a good mom! You are on your way! Congrats!! on being a parent.I am a bio mom to one son 20 and adoptive mom to daughter 4. Being a parent is FUN!!!!" One of my favorite quotes about adopting, "Orphans are easier to ignore before you know their names. They are easier to ignore before you see their faces. It is easier to pretend they are not real before you hold them in your arms. But once you do, everything changes." - David Platt Adopting our daughter is one of the best, most joyous, most satisfying things we have ever done. Congrats again!!!
  22. LOVEEEEE chicken liver. Like it broiled with bacon. Did not know they sold them there! Will have to make a pass. and yes I know it is high in cholesterol......but once in a while sure is a treat!
  23. My hair loss did not start until month #3 which was the same month I hit loosing 60 lbs. Not sure if that is any concidence? Going to ask the doc next week and see what he says. Forgot to put.....just has my 3 month labs and they look beautiful....no prob there???? Thought with the hair loss (handfulls!!!!) might be off but no????
  24. Try the unjury chicken broth....you have to order it online....one scoop has 20 grams Protein....it is the only one I can get down...the shakes make me puke too. Also...I emailed them and they sent me a sample to try first. Also my doctor gave me some samples after I told him my prob with the shakes. Good luck!
  25. Sugar alcohols in some of the protein bars cause really bad gassssssssssssssssss in my tummy....some of the Adkins bars are loaded.........and I mean that in the gasssssest way!
