Diet cheat - will liver still shrink?
Exactly!! What he ^^^^ said. You should call your surgeon and discuss this with them. There is a reason they put you on the 14 day diet and not a shorter version. They would be the best to answer such questions. I was given pure hell by mine for chewing gum, too. Bad thing was it was three weeks prior to my VSG surgery on the morning of my EGD.....doc caught me chewing gum, lol. I laid off it for a few months but have it now if I want. Let us know what your surgeon had to say about your "burrito slippage". I hope your surgery won't be rescheduled.

Post intubation pain?!
Mouth, tooth or jaw??? If your mouth was opened too far you may be having TMJ pain of the jaw joint. That can be extremely painful. Give your team a call and tell them what's going on. They will be able to guide you. Anytime you have unacceptable pain do not hesitate to call your surgical team. They want to know what's going on with you. Then come back and let us "all". Yes, we are nosy, but we also care---a great deal.

How to quit sugar ?!?!?!?
I'm finding I am craving SALT more than sugar. One would thing that after five years, I would have a handle on this ,but I find that "Craving" is different from hunger (which I do NOT have). The one thing that helps me from woofing down an entire bag of Lays is to eat some salty cheese, such as Feta. Any other suggestions???? Pickles!!! Tried pickled everything. Vinegar is not the same as SALT to me. Sometimes, I just lick salt from a spoon. Yeah, I know----yuck. Kills the crave...

Stitches
Put a gauze pad over it and give your team a call. They will tell you what to do. This is not uncommon, so please do not panic. The gauze pad is just to prevent the stitch from rubbing against your clothing. Post back and let us know how you made out. Good luck, friend.

Five years
My personal experience: I am over 5yrs out. I still have a well healed restriction I still experience dumping syndrome I have absolutely NO hunger. I set my cell phone to remind me to eat. I am content.

No Dumping syndrome even with eating fatty/sugary food?
I'm one of the 17% of sleevers who have dumping syndrome and am over five years out. I have come to consider dumping a good thing. It helps me stay true to my sleeve and on track. If you are among us 17%ers , Welcome! You can either dread dumping and be miserable, or you can look at it as a blessing--a bonus tool. The choice is yours.

I'd love to hear some success stories for joint pain medications......
Dub,Dub, Dub, ---my dear friend. Finally I can hopefully give YOU some sage advice. REPLACE THE SUCKERS!!!!! I did the Celebrex thing. I did the Aleve thing, the Naproxen thing, the Tramadol thing. I also had the Cortisone injections as well as the injections made out of cocks' combs--Synvisc. I went to PT for months and months and months. I even ate oxies four times a day for almost a year. Chiropractors? Nope---not my thing. I was told that I was too young to have a knee replacement---I would have to have another one after ten years or so. I will tell you, now, my friend---I would have ten knee replacements if I have to rather than live with that kind of unacceptable pain. Why should a person have to wait until they are in the seventies to have a knee replacement? --when our bodies do not heal as quickly or as well as when we are younger? I would (and did) rather have my knee replaced when I'm younger and enjoy my middle years pain free. AND I have been free of any knee pain---completely and totally. . Is knee replacement a tough surgery? You bet. Is it historically the most painful surgery to recover from? Yep Is it sooooo worth it? You bet your sweet bum it is!!! So, Grasshopper, that is my sage advice. I hope you will accept it knowing that it was given with compassion, empathy and endearing friendship. Now, Go forth and prosper!

Anyone else weary of advice from pre op or 3 months out?
Ha! I can relate to your sage recollections. I remember being in the end stage of labor with my 10# daughter. I went "natural" so had no pain meds (doctor convinced me it was best for the baby----arse hole! ). I remember my OB saying, "You'll just going to feel a little pressure now, Dear". Pressure????? It felt like he was pulling a rabid Rottweiler through a knot hole!!!!! I have never forgotten that line----" You're just going to feel a little pressure now, DEAR". I guess there's a reason why surgeons do their best work when their patients are asleep.

Need help one again lol
The surgical team has to make sure that you are "you", for one thing. They also check: blood type in case of transfusion need pregnancy test STD testing MSRA testing Narcotic testing Nicotine testing There's soooo much about us that is revealed through our blood. It's all routine. It's all good. Just relax and go to sleep ---wake up having had you WLS.

TMI post, ladies this post is mostly directed for us!
Yep. This is one of those nasty things that you should call your team about. Yeast infections==nasty buggers---can come from antibiotics disrupting you natural bacteria equation, or from being dehydrated---also causing bacterial imbalance, or from a vast arena of other possible culprits. Please give your team a call. They know you and will have you "itch free" in no time. Take care of yourself and please let us know how you make out.

Today, I hate being a woman.
I was told once that "women are the most vicious creatures on the planet. They can bleed for 7 days straight and still refuse to die"! The man who told me that never "felt the need" to repeat it... I say to all of my fellow women: "you're welcome".

Does anyone regret their surgery?
No, you're right. You can not change it now. SO-- What's the plan for the "Fantastic Four"? Together you have a wonderful opportunity to join together and adapt your lives to your sleeves. Let your sleeves work for you. Learn to listen to it---respect it and your sleeve will guide you to a healthier life. I fought mine for 4years. Finally, I have "made up" with my sleeve and we have become a team worth reckoning with. You can't change "it", so you have to change "yourself". Once you do that, you will not only healthier, but also more content within your own body. That's a win/win anyway you look at it. Take care of yourself. Be kind. "Fantastic Four"----I like that!

Am I being naive?
Normal? What's normal?? I am five years out and can not eat pasta, rice, anything overly spicy or sweet. I am one of the 17% of sleevers who experience "dumping". But my new food choices has become my "normal". Everyone's journey is completely individual. Will you ever be able to have pizza? Probably. Will you still want to eat pizza? Valid question. Your tastes will change--most WLS folks' do. Can you have heavy pasta with rich sauces? Tough question. I would bet not so much. If the heavy pasta doesn't hit your sleeve like an anvil, the rich sauce probably will. The theory is that you should be able to eat whatever you want and you can include in your daily menu/portions. Does that theory always prove to be true? NOPE. I hope it will hold true for you.

Becoming vegetarian after surgery.
I don't have trouble with chicken. I just don't like it! Nasty... Many WLS folks have major taste changes post operatively. Every couple of weeks, try eating meat---tiny bits. Usually beef will be the last dense Protein to be tolerated. Don't give up the ship! I thought about becoming a vegetarian once, but am EXTREMELY allergic to all beans/legumes. Oh, bother...

Not behaving myself...
Completely hopeless? Of course not! In need of a swift kick in the pants? Yep! Pick up the phone before the sun sets again and make an app'tment to see a "bariatric friendly" therapist and another app'tment to speak with your NUT. Your bariatric surgeon's office will be able to recommend ones for you. Now and until your therapy app'tments, put your big girl panties and MOVE FOREWARD. You know what you have to do. DO IT! Why did you have WLS in the first place? Put reminders of the reasons on your fridge, cabinets, night stands, mirrors---everywhere throughout the house. When you spot one of your reminder notes, STOP and read it ---out loud. That should re-enforce your initial commitment. Concentrate on fluids, fluids and then some more---fluids.. Let your surgery site heal. Think--FLUIDS. You can do this. You know you can or you wouldn't have made it down your WLS path this far. NOW, JUST DO IT!!!! I'm rooting for you. You're just in need of a "pep rally".

Dating and excess skin
If you are at the point of a sexual relationship (notice I said, "relationship", not just "hooking up for an hour"), then I believe that a couple should know each other. Their communication should have included important experiences in their lives. Have WLS and everything that journey includes certainly would be a mentionable life experience. A long lasting relationship has to have a solid foundation of truth and compassion. If all you want is a night of meaningless sex, then "there's your sign". I believe you are worth more than that.

Trouble staying Hydrated
Any kind of Fluid counts: Water flavored water soups SF pops coffee tea crushed ice tomatoes watermelon milk fruit juice Set your mind to getting your fluids in, Then pull up you big girl panties and DO IT! You know what you have to do. You are five months out, friend. Same ol'/ Same ol'. Nothing new or fancy. Make getting your fluids in your #1 priority. If you don't, the ER will. Feel better. I care about YOU.

Complications
I signed a consent allowing my surgeon to perform an open surgery if warranted. I wish others would have the same opportunity. The end result would be the same. WLS. ---just more of an incision and a wee bit longer recovery. My opinion---and only my opinion---GO FOR IT!!!

Maybe too much but...
Nothing to be embarrassed about, Friend. Did you have a catheter during your surgery? You could be irritated from that experience. OR You could be experiencing a hormonal flush that many feel after WLS. Either case, it should pass. However, if you are really concerned about it, give your bariatric team a call and get a sincere answer to your question. Right now, those folks know you better than anyone else. Please, remember, that you are not having any experience that other WLS folks haven't had. I hope you feel more "comfortable" soon. Please post and let us know the answer to your very legit question.

Does anyone regret their surgery?
No one can undo a sleeve so, YES, even now being 5yrs out, I have moments of regret.. BUT I consider those moments, moments of weakness when I have to remind myself-- I can wallow in a wrong decision OR I can make a wrong decision right. That's when I give myself a virtual slap along side my head and get back to the business of becoming healthy and happy again.

Alex Brecher can you help?
Did you know that 7% of all canned dog food is consumed by humans?? Sad, but true. I know that Rachael Ray's dog food looks better than most of what I cook! I love this thread! It's just for fun. Sometimes I believe we need to take the time just to be --silly. PS: Do you remember the "Kraft" specials around the Holidays??? I just know that the commercials were created by the "Fat Demons from the Five Circle of Hell"... OMG! I ate nothing but cheese for weeks!...

Do You Spend More Time Cooking?
God bless the "chubby chickens"! I buy one about every week.

Do You Spend More Time Cooking?
I have found that if I see an interesting recipe, I will plan it, shop for it, prepare it and glorify in the whole process. Then there are times when I'll just eat a Protein bar. I am five years out and still experience no hunger. I'm actually sad about that. All of the fun and anticipation of "social dining" is gone. I'd rather be doing something---anything except "wasting time" eating. I find that I have to stay attentive, or I'll find myself grazing, instead of stopping and taking the time to concentrate on my eating. Work in process...no regrets.
