    I feel like a looser

You are doing great!! 26 lbs in 5 wks is pretty imppressive!! There may be ppl that's lost more but theres also ppl who's lost less. We all start off at different bmi's. Look at other improvements to measure your success like the changes in the way your clothes fit. You are going to succeed at your own pace, so try not to stress.

    6 months post

    Fabulous! Congrats to you!
  4. Congrats on your date! I'm not sure on my date yet but probably mid to end of May. I am dreading the pre-op diet too, but hopefully it will go fast!
  5. Thank you Miters36 for your response. I am glad you had a wonderful experience. Dr Kelly seems like a really caring dr.
  6. Thanks for your response Vickie.
  7. Wow, a broken back! Ouch!! I imagine the weight loss has greatly improved your situation, but I can totally understand your caution. I have back problems as well, which also contributed to a lot of my weight gain. I hope wls will greatly improve my mobility. I've lost 30 lbs pre-op and it's already helped me so much! I can't wait to see the difference 100 lbs will make.

    A crazy NSV

Haha that's kind of funny and amazing too, that it's only taken you 6 months for that huge of a change. If you were bigger for a long time I think it's kinda natural for it to take a while for people to adjust to a smaller frame on you. Try to see it as a positive nsv, cuz they still love you. I have heard of a lot of ppl catching glimpses of themselves in a window and realizing it was them and not someone else too. Thats both strange and funny. Post-op must be a wild trip!! I can hardly wait for the ride.

    Hair Loss

I am so worried about this, mostly cuz I seem to be losing a lot and I am pre-op!! I just started taking biotin to see if will help. I wouldn't be as worried if my hair was as thick and healthy as it used to be. For most ppl it is temporary from wls though. It stops and then grows back.

    Fail?

I've been reading weight loss boards for 7 yrs and I mean daily, yes I am a little obsessed lol. I have never read where a sleever lost no weight or gained it all back. A few haven't lost all they wanted to but most times that was due to not being compliant with post op guidelines. And sometimes there is a slight bounce back as people try to get their maintenance diet adjusted. But we all think we're going to be the one that fails. Due to previous weight loss attempts, it's difficult to wrap our heads around this being successful. I think it's a natural fear.
  12. He's either very insecure, or a chubby chaser lol. Or maybe BOTH!! Whatever his damn problem, it's HIS problem!!! How dare he try to control something as serious as your weight, and after 1 date out of the blue at that. I would set him straight. If he leaves, his loss. Congrats on your loss so far!
  13. How tall are you? Have you lost a lot in inches or dropped a lot of clothes sizes? I believe you have turned a lot of your fat into muscle with your exercise regimen. You should be able to shake things up by by tricking your metabolism by changing your diet a little maybe?? You may need to up protein being a guy and working out. Maybe add calories a couple days a wk. Alternate days with more carbs. Congrats on your success!!
  14. You are so funny and entertaining, I read your post twice!! Thanks for sharing your experience and congrats!
  15. Stalls and rate of weight loss are a big focus on boards like this. No matter how much weight we lose it's never enough nor fast enough. We want to lose it all immediately, but it's just not realistic. Especially when most of us having bariatric surgery generally have upwards of 100 lbs to lose. Then you factor in gender, age, bmi, other health factors. There's no way of knowing all the hows and whys. But take comfort in knowing your chance with losing most or all your weight is improved greatly with WLS. Try not to be discouraged. Limit your weighing on the scales to every 2 wks or once a month. Look to other ways of measuring your success. Measure with a tape measure or by how smaller size clothes fit. You can lose inches when the scale isn't budging. Scale stressing doesn't help anyone, in fact, any kind of stress increases cortisol hormone levels which contribute to belly fat. So try to relax and enjoy the ride but have faith and confidence, cause you will lose. And you are becoming healthy, so allow yourself to find joy in that fact. Don't let that scale control your everyday mood or happiness.
  16. It is true about the DS and RNY resolving type 2 diabetes right on the surgery table. Something about the rerouting of the intestines actually cures it. The VSG works for a lot of folks due to the post op fluid only diet and the extreme small amount of food per meal once they progress to solid food. The small meals thru the day with focus on protein helps to keep blood sugars level. And for the ones who are extremely diabetic and on several meds, if it doesn't go into remission immediately post op VSG then after some weight loss it greatly improves or goes into remission.
  17. Congrats!! That's wonderful news.

  22. If you had your sleeve done in Dec of 2010 there is no way that you have stretched your tummy this soon. That is less than 3 months ago. It is possible that a lot of swelling and inflammation has gone away and your tummy has healed, which may be allowing you to eat a little more and you may not be feeling quite as much restriction. This is completely normal. How much are you able to eat? Don't go by Soups, but measure how many oz of dense meat like tuna or chicken you can eat. It probably won't be very much. The 5-day pouch test was created for thw RNY gastric bypass, and usually they were pretty far out from surgery, The pouch of the GB is much easier to stretch out because it is made from the intestines, which is thinner and stretchier tissue. The sleeve is your actual tummy with the greater curvature removed(which is also the stretchiest part of our tummies). I am not saying the sleeve cannot be eventually stretched over time. Just not usually within the first yr. And not very much or very easy. A lot of people report having great restriction yrs out. But it's all in what you put in the sleeve that counts. If you do what most surgeons recommend and eat your Protein first, you should do great. Good Luck! Kelly

    Aretha Franklin

I don't feel that Aretha has to explain or justify, but she is well-loved, therefore people are interested. Especially when the first reports were that she had pancreatic cancer. And yes admittedly I am interested due to my interest in the sleeve. I do believe it was the sleeve or lapband if she had one, cuz she denies the GB. I believe due to a family member passing away from that surgery, she prob would not have had that one. She is also promoting a new cd, so it's not just the wls rumors that she is in the media. Celebrities have to do a little trade off. The talk show hosts get to pry a little bit while giving Stars free advertising for music, movies, books, etc. She is also working on a movie biopic about her life. I wish the Queen of Soul much sucess on her weight issues, health, and career.
