  1. I won't be back so you don't have to worry about that but on my way out please consider this. I am shocked at the number of persons who have only been banded days giving advice to others. There is even advice from those who are not banded yet. My Dr. required me to attend a seminar I remember a large man there intrupting the Dr. with questions that were or would be answered if he would just listen. He finished by anouncing to the Dr. and the room that he would be the first there to undergo the surgery because "after all I have folding money" (big laugh) After the Dr. left the room he advised us all to "hit the nearest buffet and eat all we could while we still can". The point is, if soneone comes on to this forum with a question about living with the band, shouldn't it be answered by those who have learned through experience? Can advice like "I was banded 10 days ago and I can eat pizza" really be helpful? or "I consider the band a saftey net"? Just asking..... Peace be with you, and here's wishing you all the happiness in life. Alexandra (dislexi)
  2. You know what I can't spell. Never could. I have an IQ of over 150 and have previously been a member of MENSA. I do know the difference between imply and infer. I like my wine. I did not "lecture" anyone, I also know the meaning of that word. I am absolutely flattered that so many of you are so facinated with me. THANKS!!!!!
  3. I had to have cardiac clearance due to family history....nuclear stress test and eco. This psyc eval that so many posters talk about never came up. Mayfe because insurance wasn't paying?
  4. This post should be required reading for all band patients. You should have your oen blog. Do you?
  5. Boy If I have learned one thing it's different Drs have different instructions. For instance I was only required to be on the liquid diet one day before banding but 2 weeks post. one day before a fill and three days post. My Dr. forbids all powders and only recommends the pre mixed shakes. Slim fast optima is my favorite. Another trick I have is to order broth based soups, hot and sour, tortilla etc and only eat the broth. I don't think anyone ever really notices.
  6. During laproscopic surgery they usually pump gasses into your belly to seperate your organs and make room for the surgical tools. There are some RN's on this site who will hopefully chime in. I remember this stage so well. The first night I would pass a tiny amount of gas and rejoice but the bib "breakthrough" was 36-48 hours out. My husband took me to my post op 2 days after surgery. His car is really low to the ground and I was so uncomfortable but when I stepped out of it I passed gas for about 4 seconds! I can only wish the same for you, and soon. I took Gas X chewables (and still do) . Gas seems to be an ongoing problem. This is not based on medical or technical knowledge but I picture my empty stomach (the large part) as being a vessle to form/collect gas.

    vegetarian

...I was a vegetarian for 7 years.....and I was the ONLY fat vegetarian I ever knew.... God did this make me laugh out loud and I really needed it tonight. I was a vegetarian (ovo/lacto) from 1987-2001 That is whan I GAINED all of my weight. I have all four Lindy McCartney books and I really impressed people with my "veggie" cooking. No wonder, I allowed myself all manner of butter, cheese and cream because after all I wasn't eating meat and we all know how much fat that has............. So I didn't have grilled meat and salad I had 4 cheese lasagna and why eat a smoked turky sandwich when I could have a fried eggplant sandwich with extra cheese???? I still don't eat red meat but I do eat fish and chicken. I was a vegetarian because of ethical issues and I admire those who have made the commitment and live the life. I have only been banded for 4 months and I follow the Drs. advice of "protien, protien, protien" Right know if I took out the meat all I can think of is slim fast shakes and Beans, and most of us who are banded have a "special" relationship with beans. When I get to my goal weight I plan on giving up chicken but keeping the fish. Maybe I will be inspired to make the commitment again to be meat free. I hope so.
  8. To "we" I stand by everything I have written. It was not meant to be offensive. If it was it's probably a case of the written word being "heard" in a different tone than meant. But the "private message" thing is REALLY out there....
  9. Please go back and look at what I actually wrote not what you THINK I wrote. I have already taken back that my "stomp off" was pissy. I cop to it. I own it. I STILL think its irresponsible to tell a newly banded person it's OK to eat pizza and PARTICULARLY if you are not banded yourself. I really feel for the person who said this forum is her ONLY source of information. Both my Dr. and the hospital where I had my surgery offer ongoing support. I just assumed that was the case for everyone. Love, some person:)
  10. OK I admit it I did come back to look and boy are some of you completely wrong about my point. I suppose it's the bane of the written word vs. just speaking. 1st of all, I think all forums are great. The only reason I found this is because of a referral. I belong to a closed forum moderated by the hospital where I had my surgery and the difference is night and day. It shocked me. I have all of the overeating issues that anyone who has lapband surgery has. We could match stories about endless diets word for word. What shocked me and concerned me was in the few days, the slice I read of this forum seems to be about eating vs. losing weight. I will admit that most of it came from one post that had to do with a person that was less than 2 weeks post op and asked if s/he could eat pizza. It's still here, you can look at it. Lots of posts about "go for it". I asked why one who had been through surgery would want to eat "crap like that" and gave my stratagies for ordering in and going to a pizza parlor. The deluge of replys had to do with "not feeling deprived" and particular scorn for "chicken and salad" WTF? I thought the point was to lose weight, not to eat. In the other forum we share stratagies on how to cope when eating at home with the family, preparing meals for others and going to resturants, not how to continue bad habits without physical consequences. I believe this kind of advice is particularly dangerous since apparantly this a place for those who have been newly banded or are considering the surgery. That's all. I am so happy I had the surgery. My "official" weight loss is 37lbs since December. I say official since I only weigh at the Drs ofc. I'm hoping/expecting next Wed it will go over 40. Yes, I HAVE found what I am looking for. For those of you who missed my point...If the shoe DOES NOT fit DON'T wear it. Take your own advice and pass on posts that don't pertain to you.
  11. Anchormom and mew I don't blame you, but please take a look at what happened. I posted something provocative today. As a response, one user said I am "hateful, angry" and a "person with lots of issues". I didn't even notice the name but now she is claiming I sent her a "hateful private message" Should I just ignore that? OK, I answered my own question and from here on I will do just that.
  12. "private" message? And just how did you receive it? In a dream? Can you share it with the class?
  13. Just so there are no more misunderstandings, the person I am calling a liar is the registered user "teacher", not anyone else. This person has made rediculous statements. If my posts offended her it was not my intention. S/he has apparantly run a global on my posts in order to take some comments out of context for a reason known only to her. My posts did not single her out until now and only because of rediculous claims. We happen to live in the same area, perhaps we have met in a support group. Who knows?
  14. Yes I AM calling you a liar. I have no compunction about doing so.
  15. OK, lets try this some more. I did not "badmouth" anyone. My two cents WAS asked for, as was yours.

    ??? What about eating out?

I LOVE eating out. I have 15 yr old twins and a husband who are eating machines--granted I trained them because b-4 banding I was one excellent cook. Eating out is total freedom for me. I usually order off of the starter menu, or I will just have a part of my husbands meal. It helps him too! I always have a glass of wine (or two) while those in my party are enjoying soup/salad/starter. I eat my food when they get their entree, stop the liquids and all is fine. I particularly enjoy one bite of whatever dessert my loved ones want to share. That one bite feels so much better than the whole thing used to.

    Overnight Stay?

There was a person in the hospital with me that told her family she was having her gallbladder out. Sounds reasonable to me.
  19. Maybe this will be helpful, I know I am interested! I am 3 1/2 months post-op Breakfast- same as every day, coffee with heavy cream and most of a Slim Fast shake. I can't manage solids in the am Lunch- Artichoke, boiled until it's really soft with mayonaise, I aslo had some Beano drops. 3 thin slices dry salami Dinner- going out, will have home smoked salmon from the starter menu, it comes with garlic aioli and toast points. I usually only have one of the toast points. While husband and children are having salads and starters I will enjoy 2 glasses of wine. I will also eat one bite of dessert if someone orders one. Tonight- most likely a scoop of lime sorbet, I have it almost every night.

    Liquid Stage Recipes

These helped me. Cold Avacado Soup, In a blender puree 2-3 ripe avacados, about 1/4 c prepared mashed potatos, juice of 1 lime, 1/2 tsp cumin and 2-3 cups organic chicken broth. Tomato Basil Soup, heat 2 cups organic chicken broth, 2 cups organic tomato juice, and some finely chopped basil. (I use the pre chopped in a tupe from the produce dept). When heated stir in 1/2 c half and half and 1 T butter, add a little black pepper to taste.
