  1. . Will have the sleeve in April. I've read that after the sleeve it is much easier to get drunk with little alchohol. Is that too? Do you lose the taste for wine? Should I not have any when I go out to dinner? Thanks

I was sleeved on December 30, 2010. I had my first drink on Jan. 30, 2011. I have on had white wine and I was fine. I have discovered that my tolerence is a lot lower than it used to be. It doesn't take but about 4-6 oz of wine and I am tipsy. I used to be a really big drinker. I was scared to death that I was going to gain some weight when I drank that glass of wine. I actually lost 2 pounds that weekend.

    Hope it helps

  2. Hey everybody. I had my surgery on 12-30-10. I was sleeved. So my surgery was two weeks ago. I went yesterday to the health food store and bought a few Isopure Protein Drinks (it has 40g) of Protein in one 20 oz bottle. I have been trying to drink this one bottle since last night and I still have about 5 oz left. I am scared to death of not eating enough protein and scared my hair will fall out. But its almost like I have to force myself to eat/drink something. I mostly only drink the protein drinks and chicken broth or beef broth. I have tried eating jelly. I can only eat maybe 2 bites. Afraid I am not getting enough of everything....Any help or suggestion would be much appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Just try and get your Protein in & fluids of course. My doctor said if I wasn't hungry don't eat. So if you skip and meal I am sure it is ok. You can try puddings I made mine with extra scoops of Protein powder. Good luck.

That is a great idea, thanks. I have been sleeved almost two weeks. I had bought some fat free puddings but I can't eat a whole and the taste funny. I can only eat about 3 bites at the most if I try to eat any more I feel like I am full!

    Thanks,

    Rae

  4. Hi there onediva! All the best on your new journey!! Welcome to the club, and soon you will see that you have every reason in the world to be on top of the moon!

As far as supplements, if you are in the majority you will discover that your taste will change after surgery. It's the most bizarre thing. One suggestion I could give you is that you should get the "samples" online of many different types. That way you will find out what your liking is. What you like now probably won't be the same once you have your surgery.

I really enjoyed the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury after surgery - so that might be a sample you'd like to try.

    All the best!!!

    Thank you!!!!!!!

  5. Well it is now 0225 and I am up. I guess I am a little anxious but, not in a bad way. I had my pre hospital visit yesterday and my last doctor's appointment with Dr. Jenkins. It was great. I had been nervous that I wouldn't meet my pre-op weight goal of 260, well I weighed in at 255.5. I am proud of myself so far. Dr. Jenkins said I am a good candidate for the surgery. He said they look at if a person loses weigh during pre-op. If you lose weight then you will do fine after you are sleeved. I was give a patch to put behind my ear. It is for nausea. I can only keep in on for three days max. I was also already given my pain medicine for when I get out of the hospital. I am so excited right now. I also had to drink a bottle of magnesium citrate, At the hospital I was given a bottle of Hibiclens. I had to take a shower with my regular soap and then use the hibiclens on my abdomen for 5 minutes. The nurse said to rub it on my abdomen for 5 minutes in a circular motion for 5 minutes with no Water running to rinse it off, then rinse it off. That was last night. She said to make sure to change your sheets on your bed after you did this. I also have to do this in the morning, My surgery is at 9. I have to be at the hospital at 8. Three of my daughters will be with me. I am excited. The only thing that I a little nervous about is that Dr. Jenkins said he would expect me to end up weighing 160 pounds for my height. I don't even remember what that feels or looks like....... Have a great day. I will, next time I write I will be sleeved.!!!

Oh yeah I asked Dr. Jenkins about the pain after surgery. I asked if it would be equal to child birth. He said no. It will be worse than the soreness that you feel after child birth but no as bad.....so I know that I can handle it....!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. Hi Kimmes,

I dry-heaved a LOT right after surgery as a reaction to the anesthesia, and while it was scary, my surgeon (who is *very* experienced) did not seem very concerned about it. Basically, it scared me a lot more than it scared him. I was promptly put on an anti-nausea med, and I have had no nausea since then. I hope that eases your mind a bit....

    THANK YOU

  7. I'm sleeved!!!!! yay! Everything went beautifully, when i woke up in recovery I did do a bit of dry heaving .... which wasn't the greatest thing to experience but boy the pain meds are fantastic!!! The doc kept telling me that my liver was tiny and he was so happy that I followed my liquid diet to a T.

So all day today I have been waiting around with my hubby to see if I get to go home and what happens, about 30 minutes after my hubby left, the doc shows up and says that I could go if I wanted to. There is no leak and all my spots on my belly are doing well. The pain that I am experiencing is the cut on my belly button, right shoulder pain and there is pain that happens between my shoulder blades. The pain meds work really good and it's funny I can time when the pain between my shoulder blades come back, 6 hours to be exact. Weird huh. So I am staying here one more night then I am out of here around 10 in the morning.

I am soooo proud of myself, I am officially on the losers bench and I did this for me and I can't be more thrilled. 2011 is going to be one amazing year!!! Nothing is going to hold me back!

    - Tiffany

    CONGRATULATIONS TIFFANY,

I will be you in two days....I am so happy for you and your new journey. Looking forward to losing with you.

  8. I know every plan differs, but I just want some rough idea on how much I will need to come up with. I think my plan covers 85%.

I was just wondering anyone who was Aetna, how much did you end up paying for everything?

I have Aetna as well. It depends on a few things. My normal co-pay is $20.00 for office visits in network.. I was originally told that my hospital co-pay would be areund $2,000.00 and I believe that my surgeon would be around $500.00. Neither quote was correct. I will end up paying around $1200.00 for my surgery. I also had to mack 4 monthly visits to be on a doctor's supervised diet pre-op.

    Hope it helps

  9. I am seven days out and was wondering when exercise cn start working into the plan both cardio and strength training. If anyone can share any information on this, I would appreciate it.

    Happy Holidays

How are you feeling? How was your surgery? I am 2 days pre-op and just curious....I was told you have to walk for a few weeks first but I am not too sure. Congratulations on your weight loss so far!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

  10. I am with you on the excitement. My surgery date is 12/30. I had my EGD done on Thursday and I am so ready to have the surgery. I have been on Optifast for 2 weeks, but I have been reading and researching and from listening to what people are saying about getting the Protein done, I went to the Vitamin Shoppe and got some liquid whey Protein. I found some that was 4 oz and has 55 g of protein. I figured if I can get 4 oz of that down I will be doing a lot better than getting 4- 8oz boxes of Optifast down in a day.

    Good luck on your surgery.

Thank, I think I will try it. Liquie whey...sounds different but I am up the the ride.....Good luck with you surgery....Please keep me posted.. We will be embarking on this journey together.....My surgery is in TWO DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!YES!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. I'm curious about something. I have read an awful lot where people are asked to go on the liquid diets 10 days or 2 wks before their surgery. What is the reasoning for this? Is it to help you get in the mode for post-surgery life or is there a medical reason for it?

My surgen says the purpose of the liquid diet is to deplete your glycogen stores...it make the laparoscopic surgery easier....Hope that helped.

Its tuesday morning 0418.....Two days left until my surgery!!!!!!!!!

  12. Sometimes even our family's best intentions and concerns can cause some doubts. My husband had a total meltdown a couple of days before my surgery. But if you are ready to lose weight and this is your decision and you are comfortable with your surgeon GO FOR IT ! ! ! I had my surgery Dec. 13 and when you wake up and everything is done and you are fine they will support you. Now to your question of Protein drinks. I would try several samples. EAS and the Atkins are good, but the Protein is only 15-17grams. The Pure Protein drinks have 23 grams. GNC store ( or similar stores ) may offer sample protein powders so you can try them before you buy a bulk amount. Will watch for your progress, all of us VSGers are pulling for you.

Thank you, how did you feel right after your surgery? I have been trying to find all of the information I can and, some people talk about how unbearable the pain was after surgery. Also have you had any problem with acid reflux? Thank for any information you can give me. I have finally appointments on wednesday....I am nervous.

  13. I am 41 year old divorced mother of four daughters and one grandaughter. I decided to finally check on some type on weight loss surgery in June of 2010. I am so glad that I decided to go on this journey. Right now I work shift work at a chemical plant. I have to walk up seven flights on stairs at times.. My knees hurt from all of this weight. When I started I weighed between 175 and 170. I am 5'7. I need to be down to 160 for my surgery. I am at 161 right now. My surgery is this THURSDAY!!!!!!!Yea. I am excited. I am going to enjoy the coming year because I am going to finally start living and doing things for me. I want to be able to play with my granddaughter with out being grouchy and tired!!!!!!!!!!!!

    THREE MORE DAYS!!!!!!!!!!

  14. I am curious if anyony cheated on their pre-op diets? My diet is a shake for breakfast, low fat lunch (turkey sandwich) and a shake for dinner! I am supposed to not go over 1200 calories a day and not a single day thus far (today is day 5) have I even come close to that many calories. I am HUNGRY today and I am really craving some Pasta but I don't know if I should go for it or not. I'm not talking about to excess but a serving! I still have 10 days before surgery! I know people who didn't even have to do a special diet just did 24 hours of liquids before!

    [/quotefO

For me I guess this is a hard time of year to be on a pre-op diet. I am supposed to be on a basically 10 day Diet. Which is basically a liquid diet. You can have a carb shake, suger free jelly, popsicles or no sugar added fudgisicles. Skim milk and one time a day you can have either a weight watchers or lean cuisine meal. I was doing good until I went to my parents for Christmas. I hopped on the scale and I weighed 157. I need to weight 160 for my surgery. ... So I thought yeah I have a whole 3lbs to work with...by the time I left I needed to lose a pound. So now 3 days before my surgery I am half afraid to eat...For me I found that the sugar free Jello adds some variety. I am kind of tired of eating the frozen meals.... I have to add, when I stuck to the diet like I was supposed to I had a terrible headace.

Good luck on your journey....YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!
