  1. Dr. Rod's plication is $5700. I was going with that until I chose to get the sleeve
  2. Please Please Please! Do more research on Dr. Huacuz. Jean tried to push him on me but after reading horror stories here, on the Lapband board, and Obesity Help I would never go to him, but you may feel okay with him. I just want you to be informed and not "sold." Price is a factor, I think with World Med Dr. Corvala was about $500 more.

    Wanting to Better Myself

Hi Gips, I'm also 24 (birthday was yesterday) 25. I made this decision even though I feel comfortable in my body, because of my health. I am a new mommy and wife and want to do all the things that help us enjoy life. Rollercoaster rides, trips by plane, and a host of all other things. Welcome and I hope to connect with other young sleevers. I am getting sleeved Jan. 22 in TJ with Dr. Rod
  4. French Fries are #evil.... That is all... Lol Going on strong. Getting in more thann 50 grs of Protein, less than 30 carbs, and almost no sat fats. coming to love pressure cooked chicken breast, salad with pink crisp apples, and all green veggies.
  5. Hey All, I am entering Day 1 of my Pre-op and I am sooooo excited. I think I am almost too excited to be hungry! It's been an okay starts. My husband and I have been up since 7 with our DD. He keeps slipping up. He brought me some French Vin coffee in bed. But then I had to remind him that start my pre-op today. So only Water. I think I am going to try to plan each day out the day before. While there aren;t any calorie restrictions, I still want to make sure I look at my carbs (no more than 40 a day) sat fats (no more than 5/serving). So here is what I had and what I plan on for the day Goal: Shrink the Liver not Loose weight 9:00 am 16 oz of water and a plain hard-boiled egg 10:15- 16 oz of water a a half of banana (other half is my daughter's :-) 11:30- 16 oz of water and a apple 1:30- Protein shake (150 cal/ 1 gr of sat fat/ 6 g of carbs/ 26gr Protein) and 8 oz of water 4ish -Some snack within guidelines (I was thinking Greek yogurt with frozen strawberries) with 16 oz of water Dinner- Plain chix breast w/ sweet pea with 16 oz of water Late night snack if needed- Protein Shake (280 cal/ 2 sat fats/8 gr carb/ 56 gms of protein) Wish me luck!

    Dreading the Scale

After a day of depression, I have told myself this is the LAST time I fall victim to a number.... on a scale. 277.4......... No where to go but down from here.
  7. I am dreading buying a scale today. I hate them with a passion. If you asked me how much I weighed right now, I could not tell you. When I was pregnant, I made my doctor write on the outside of my file, DO NOT TELL WEIGHT! From visit to visit they would say you gained X punds, but NEVER the weight. When I had my daughter, it moved into you loss X pounds. I never want to know the number, because I don't want to spiral into depression. When I watch the Biggest Loser and I see someone who weigh 260, I think I don't look like that so I know I don't weigh 260. My just hate the numbers. So I will suck it up an buy a scale today...... doesn't mean I will use it.
  8. So about 3 days ago I got some information that put me on the fence. Since I am aiming to lose 110-120 pounds, she recommends the sleeve. Not because Dr. Rod is incapable of doing the plication well, but the results for the amount I want to loose (and successes) lies in the sleeve. I have used this last few days to talk to many people from the patient plication list and sleevers from the board (hi all and thanks for answering my questions). Only 2 plication patients responded to my request (via e-mail) and I spoke with by phone.Neither had the amount of weight I needed to loose. They both needed between 50-65 pounds off. And they are very happy with their progress. The sleevers I spoke to are (or were) in my same boat. I haven't made a decision yet, but I am leaning toward the VSG. I still have about a week to make a final decision.

  10. Thanks All. Tiff I heart you! FAB! I may need you to become my mentor....
  11. I am trying to put all my post into my diary. I love posting here for the support, but I want to keep my thought in a seperate place for reflection. Is this possible? I am asking while I am newbie, so I will know if I need to copy and paste my post as I write them to save.
  12. Thanks! I am FOCUSED!! I keep reminding myself "You need to shrink your liver. It's not about losing weight, but shrinking your liver." Happy and uneventful surgery is keeping my eyes on the prize.
  13. Yeah. The main thing that was stressed was getting in lots of Water, fresh fruits at least two a day, and mainly Proteins. As little carbs as possible too.

    January 2011 Sleevers

Having sleeve Jan. 22. Start Pre-op this Friday. Mexico or Bust....
  16. Thanks. Great tip. I just got the Vitamins and flight socks.. Just need a Magic Bullet and I'm on my way!
  17. Hi {Family}, First I want to say Happy New Years Eve!!!! And thank you to all that voted in my previous post. I ordered some Vitamins from Walgreens.com (they have an awesome end of year BOGO AND $10 off sale). I just changed my date from Feb 10 to January 22. I needed to kick myself in the butt and in high gear. This morning (in the wee hours) after spending some "romantic" (TMI huh?) time with my husband, I stood in the mirror completely naked. I mean really just looking at myself in a 360 kind of way. Then I began to think: Well maybe I am not THAT big. Maybe this extra chin is NOT a problem. Maybe making love in the dark isn't SO bad. After about 30 mins in the mirror, I had talked myself out of the surgery. I went to bed thinking, this IS the me I'm suppose to be, right? Fastforward to about 2 hours ago, after squeezing into my size 18/20 jeans and looking for my Ashley Stewart card, REALITY hit me {literally in my chest after climbing the stairs}. This is NOT who I WANT to be or am SUPPOSED to be. I make an executive decision {didn't call my hubby until after the call} to move me into the next available slot with Dr. Rod in TJ. So I am going on Jan 22 and I am TOOOOOOOOO excited. I start my pre-op about 10 days before (only need 7 but want to make sure) and cutting up my Ashley Stewart card for good. I will not buy any "new" {exchange doesn't count right} clothes for 6 months post-op. I am ready to make this change. No more listening to the noise around me. As long as my husband supports me, then I am all . I am going to count on you guys to kick me in the bootay {lol} every now and then during pre-op (I know I'm going to need it). Game Plan Jan 1-9 Shop online for all the "Must haves you guys recommended" Jan 10th- Celebrate my 25 birthday and the LAST Birthday as "Big" Anna Jan 11-15 Cook all of the Hubby's favorite foods to freeze. Get all major appts out the way (dentist/ortho, OBGYN, PCP), mimi pre-op Jan 15-22 Pre-op diet Jan. 22 Entering my cacoon! :Dancing_tongue:
  18. Thanks guys! Does anyone have an update on their GPS weightloss. We are starting to get a nice bunch of people here to look at some process. My friend asked me why not the sleeve, but I am too worried about the whole leaking/dumping complications. So GPSers.... any updates?
  19. TP My doctor, Dr. Jose Rodriguez uses the Endoflip. I have spoken to him a number of times and even have it in written communication. He says that the Endoflip is becoming a standard in GPS.

    Tax Deductible

Yes we can! I checked and double check with my tax advisor. WLS is a medical expense that you can write off. Just make sure you document your weight, BMI before to show it was medically necessary. This is Great News for Us Self Payers!!!!
  21. Hi All, I consulted my tax advisor on this subject and he says that it is possible- For those who had their WLS in Mexico (or any other country besides the US) AFTER 2002 have you deducted your WLS as a medical expense with no issues. New IRS Policy: In Revenue Ruling 2002-19, the IRS stated that, "Obesity is medically accepted to be a disease in its own right." The IRS ruled that, "Uncompensated amounts paid by individuals for participation in a weight-loss program as treatment for a specific disease or diseases (including obesity) diagnosed by a physician are expenses for medical care that are deductible under § 213, subject to the limitations of that section."
  22. Hi all! Pretty new to the boards. Getting the plication surgery Feb. 2011. I was thinking about moving the date up to January 2011, but I want time to stock up on all my "must haves" like Protein powders, shakes, and Vitamins. Just wanted to say hello... so HELLO!
  23. I am scheduled for my Gastric Plication Surgery with Dr.Jose Rodriguez in TJ on Feb. 10, 2011! I haven't decided how I will chronical this journey, but I know I want to. I am starting now getting essential items like Vitamins, pain meds, and other recommended items. I know this has been asked dozens of times, but if you have any recommendations for what to get- please let me know. What could you not live without? What are the Dos and Don'ts? The Must-Haves? Got it and Love 'ems? I am thinking about putting this information in ONE spot on my blog. Let me know what you guys thinks.
