    I'm STARVING!

I had gastric plication surgery with Dr. Corvala in Tijuana on Oct. 20, 2010 and am exactly 2 weeks post-op today. So far I have had no complications, no nausea, no food intolerances, etc. The only issue I have is that my stomach is still black and blue and somewhat swollen from the surgery--but I know this will go away in time. Other than that, I feel great. I started on soft foods about 5 days after surgery because the clear liquid diet wasn't enough--I felt hungry all of the time (or at least I thought I was hungry--not sure now if it was hunger or acid stomach). Thus far, I have been able to eat anything I want--but just not very much of it. I get full after a few bites and feel full/satisfied for quite some time thereafter. I also am not constantly thinking about food like I used to. I know I am only two weeks post-op but so far, everything is good--I am excited about the road ahead. bew
  3. wow--your regular doctor sounds very efficient. NOT! I am 6 days post op from having had gastric plication w/ Dr. Corvala in Tijuana. I went down there knowing (and the Mexican drs also knowing) that I have a heart condition known as mitral valve prolapse. I was approved pending results of the ekg etc. They did a chest xray and determined they needed more info--then they did an EKG, noticed a "left-side blockage" and determined they needed to do a full-on electrocardiogram. They called the cardiologist who apparently was not at the hosp that day because i had to wait and when he came walking in, he was dressed in jeans and a plaid shirt. He did the whatever it is where they run a cold, slippery probe type thing all over your chest and say "breathe" "hold your breath" "exhale" etc etc etc. This went on for at least 30 min. I was sure that they would not do the surgery and that my friend and I would be leaving the hospital shortly. But the cardiologist gave the green light, saying i had a mild heart condition and it should present no problem. Bottom line: The Mexican drs are going to take every precaution to ensure your safety--it is not in their best interests to risk the lives of their patients. Good luck. P.S. I forgot to add that I am 55 years old and have a history of anemia which the Mexican drs also knew--and I made it! But again, I had gastric plication surgery--not the sleeve. Hope this helps.
