    June 2007 Bandsters

Hello people! I got my band planned for June 28th by Dr Drahn in san bernardino. I am really looking forward for this. I have not started my real pre op diet yet, however I have been watching what I eat and am trying to eat less and less everyday. I will start my strict pre op diet may 25 (2pro shakes and 1 meal 4-6oz lean meat and 1/2 cup of greens a day) In the mean time I have been going to the gym a few times a weeks and eating more veggies. And it seems to be working I am down almost 20lbs and still droping. I am going to try and post what I eat like you guys have been doing. I think it will help and keep me from cheating. well I hope you all the best and look forward to hear how everyoine is doing.

    I wanna be banded!!

I thought that I was going to have a hard time with my insurance covering the band because the company I work for can be some real cheep asses sometimes. But it was really simple. I just had to have a BMI over 40 ( And I do) My insurance is UHC PPO. I know all plans are not the same but just do your research and I am sure you can find someone that will cover it. I was kind of planing on my insurance not covering my band so I had a couple of attorneys lined up. I know of a few if ya want there websites I could give them to you. If you do have to self pay I have been told Dr Ariel Ortiz in mexico is great. I have not worked with him but I have read his book and everyone says he is really good. I think people say he could do it for around $8,000. Witch is alot cheeper than my Doc wants if I have to self pay $25,000. Anyway best of luck to you and keep after it.

    Eating too much pre op!!!!

I am not getting banded till the 9th of Aug and I am trying to eat better so I could lose a little weight before the op. My Doc wants me to start my pre op diet 6 weeks out (high protein low carb). I have been trying to eat better but I still have a hard time with the amount of food I am intaking. I have only been eating fruit and vegetables with some kind of high protein meat (Tuna, salmon, little chicken) and a slice of wheat bread from time to time. But I have been eating tons of the stuff. Like 10 times more than I know I should:hungry: . Do you think I should go back to my old diet and just try to eat a little less or keep on doing what I have been and just try my best to eat less? I can't wait to get the band! I am hopeing the urge to eat gigantic amounts of food will go away once I get the band. I am not having a hard time with what I am eating just the size of the portions:frusty: . Any tips would be a great help and appreciated.

Hey everyone! I'm a newbie from Ohio.

It's good you are learning so much before hand. I had my consult back in Nov of 06 and just got approved a few weeks ago. My date is Aug 9th and I can't wait. I am learning alot on here and by reading books. I think I got a pretty good understanding and how everything works. I read these books and it just seem like review. Anyway best of luck to you with your band and keep us all posted.
  11. my Doc told me I could drink just before eating but to wait 1 1/2 hours after eating
  12. my Dr told me I could eat fish in my soft food stage. He did tell me to mix it with some broth and blend it really good.

    The great PROTEIN DEBATE...

If I were you I would just do what ever your Dr tells you to do. Mine tells me to do a shake diet per op so me liver shrinks. (Or someting like that) He also wants me to keep my protein intake up afterwards but tells me after 4-5 weeks get it from my food. best of luck to ya.
  15. I am getting the band on Aug 9th from Dr Drahn at san bernardino CA. What I would like to know is, how much help I am going to need post op. I am 25 and single and the people I use for help is going on a cruse the same week of the operation. I got friends that will take and pick up form hospital but I would like to leave it at that and do the rest myself. I am still kind of young and in ok shape (besides form being 300lbs) I think I could do it but I would like to see what everyone else thinks.
  16. I am getting my band Aug 9th from Dr Drahn San bernardino. Anyone use him? Have any good things or bad things to say about him? please let me know.

    waiting waiting waiting

I went to the meeting on 10/12/06 and got all my stuff down in early march and i just got the the green light from my insurance yesterday. I think I should know the date on friday. I thought my insurance would say no so I started to look for other options long time ago. It's alot of money but for what you get I think it's priceless.

    Brand new and Terrified!

Most of your questions will be answered at your consult and the meeting. As far as you family go, it's very easy for everyone to say your taking the easy way out and don't want to support you. ( I got the same thing ) but know that you are doing this for yourself. I am 25 with a BMI of 45 and I know if I don't do something my health with suffer a great deal. I don't try to change my family's mind on the whole thing. I just think they don't understand. And the money, this is something that could change you life for the best and add alot of years on for ya. So when I look at it like that I don't think it's all that much money. Well best of luck to ya.
