    June 2007 Bandsters

well I only got a few days to go. The only thing I am having a problem with is my mom. She is 110% against me getting the band, she is one of those people that don't really like doctors or modern medicine. I think it is the hippy coming out in her. Now I have always done everything on my own, I have help from Dad, friends, and girlfriend but my mom really wants to help me with all this ( making broth, rides, cleaning house ect) but I am worried she is going to put in her unwanted two cents and make me mad and really stressing me out. I have told her not to bother helping me I got plenty of help and she thinks I am just playing with her. I even told her if she does help I don't want to hear any crap from her but she tells me it's her dutie as a mother. Anyone have a problem with a non supportive parent that wants to help? If so how did ya deal with them?

Quadmom: Have you bee taking a multivitamin? I know once I started taking them a few years ago mine was a bright green/yellow. bigbaby: I like to use fitday.com to log my cal intake I have not look at that one you are talking about I will look at it here in a while. I know fitday is free and really simple. TMC: It's nice to see another male in here I thought I was the only one, I did not know BigSexy was also. I am doing good with my pre op diet. I am down 55lbs so far and I think it's still droping. I have less than one week to go. I was wondering how everyone deals with their sleep. I was told it will be hard to sleep in a norm bed because of being flat on the bed. I do not own a lazy boy but some people tell me to go buy one. What does everyone think?

Holli: good luck in the morning. I'm sure everything will go well. I still got over a week togo but the time is going my darn fast. I have been doing really good with the weight loss and I have been trying to eat like I got the band but I am haveing a hard time with eating slow. Does anyone have any tips for learning to eat slow? I try to make a meal last 30 mins but when it's all said and done it's really like 10-12 mins. I hope I learn so I don't feel sick after the band. Any tips would be a great help.

bcrazy7: I have cheated alot on my pre op diet! When I do cheat it's all low cal, low carb. My cal count for a day has been 550-700. But today I cheated big time! I had about two spoons of a pasta salad and that took my cal count for the day from 700 to almost 1000. My pre op diet lets me eat one small meal a day and two pro drinks a day. I do drink the isopure zero carb clear drink. I have had the powder mix isopure in the past and I hate it so much but the clears are very good. Good luck to you on the rest of your pre op diet.

Insubordination: I work 28 days on 28 days off. My doc said everything should be ok to go back to work with my 28 days of rest. He said worst case he will put me on light duty. I really don't do all that much hard work. I just drive the boat and do alot of paper work for 6 hours on 6 hours off for 28 days. Suzzzie: I was wondering if you ever talked to your nurse about pictures or a video. I just e-mailed my nurse. I hope they don't think I am some kind of weirdo. I got to say I am really kicking butt on my pre op diet. I am down alot of weight. Much more than I planned, My cal count is down to 650-800 and I have been working out alot. I know my insurance approved me for the band but they also said I must have a BMI over 40 and now it's down to 38.5. I asked my nurse and she told me not to worry, but I still worry. Has anyone heard of someones provider not covering after being approved?

insubordination: Ya I am droping the pounds fast, but I know if I don't get the band I will more than likely put it all back on, just like I have in the past. It's kind of funny, being offshore its really hard to lose weight. Here on the boat we got all the free food we could want. And it's all the good stuff that I know I should not be eating anyway. so I am having a hard time but still doing pretty good. huntersmom: I used to work on fishing boats, but like you say it's kind of hard to make a living. I now work on a OSV (Oil Supply Vessel) we supply the oil platforms out here on the west coast. I still got friends that fish and they keep me stocked up with all the fish I could ever want. where did you mom and dad fish? Anyhow time is going by slow for me. I can't wait till the 28th so maybe this hunger will go away.

It's been a few days since I last been on here and I had 200 posts to catch up on. It's getting big. Anyhow I will be working offshore for the next 17 days then I'm back home for my band. I am happy to hear that everyone is doing so well. I have seen a few videos of the op on LBT and I was wondering if they could record and maybe get a copy of my own. Does anyone know? I know myself and a few people would like to see it. Anyhow best of luck to everyone.

I have a follow up apt 2 weeks after and I hope then he will tell me when I can eat real food. Hang in there it will be worth it in end. Hotty: My doc has me on high protein low carb shake diet for 4 weeks then 2 days before clear liquids for the last 48 hours. I think I might go for one week clears like you did.

MM: I am sorry to hear of the bad service you have been getting, I hope you get to go home soon. I have had a hard time with my Doc being late all the time and it gets me pretty darn mad, the more mad I get the more stressed I get so I try not to let it bug me all that much but I am sure it's diff when you stuck away from home. Do you have internet in your room? Hotty: I am glad everything went so well for you, what did you do for your pre op diet? And what does your doc have you doing for the next few weeks?

hotty, I know isopure makes a clear protein drink. I have been drinking them for the last few days as a part of my pre op diet. And you know what? They taste really good, almost like water doen Kool-Aid. I know you could get them in GNC out here is CA for about 4 bucks each. for one 20oz bottle: 160 Cal 0 Fat 0 carb 0 sugars 40 g protein 55 mg calcium 45mg Potassium
  18. Denise, Gortons make a lemon butter salmon thats is really good and it is only 100 cals. You could also buy almost any fresh fish from the market and just ad little fresh lemon and thyme on it, and it does wonders for it. I also use fitday.com for my log, it's really ez. WASaBubblebutt I won't get banded till the 28th of june, but for the last 5-6 weeks I have only been intaking about 800-900 cal a day and I feel fine as far as my fuel levels goes. I still want to eat more but thats just years of being overweight talking. I think it all depends and where the cals come from, like you are saying. I am 5'8" 300lbs and I work very hard at work and I also work out 4-5 days a week for about 1 1/2 hours so I am loseing weight. and only eating 800 cals a day I still feel like I am getting pleanty of fuel from my food.
  19. this is something I would like to know too. I gag every morning when I brush to. I know $14,000 sound like a bunch of money but if it could improve the quality of life I think it is a hell of a deal. I think if you gag the band will still work but I heard your at a high risk of the band sliping. I know thats what my doc told me about vomiting, I tihnk it might me the same for gaging. I will ask my Doc on friday. best of luck to you and I will post what my doc tells me on friday about the gaging.

I start my pre op diet in the morning 1 pro shake in the morning, 1 pro shake at lunch, and 4-6 oz cooked lean meat 1/2 cup greens for dinner for 5 weeks. I started trying to eat better about 5 weeks ago and am down 25lbs. I don't really care much for the pro shakes so I hope I could get over it and just choke them down. Well anyway, time is really flying I just wanted everyone to know where I stand and what I am doing. I wish the best of luck to everyone and I will talk to ya all soon. Dan

I have not heard much about Dr. Rumbaut. But I have been told that Dr. Ortiz In TJ is the best. It sounds like he has been doing it for along time and he has trained alot of surgons in the US. I have read his book " lapband for life" and it was filled with alot of info. If I were to go donw there I think I would check him out. Anyhow best of luck to you and let me know who you end up useing.

It looks like everyones pre op appointments are 1-2 weeks before the big day. Mine is only 2 days before. I asked the Doc and he said that the hospital wants the lab work done no sooner than 72 hours. So 2 days before I need chest X-ray, EKG, Blood work, and I meet with the Doc for the last time before the op. I always thought it took longer for the blood work. Anyhow, I can't wait!!! Best of luck to everyone.
