  1. 1 years have passed since you registered at VerticalSleeveTalk! Happy 1st Anniversary TankGirl!

  2. Wanted to check in and say hi. I haven't been on in ages, but wanted to see how you are doing. I never thanked you for the good luck wishes, so thank you :)

  3. I have been doing the P90 for a few weeks (alternating everyday with the C25K program). I workout everyday and love, love, love both of these programs. I even use the first stretch from the P90 after I get home from running to keep myself limber. I can't wait to see what my body looks like in a few months!!! If anyone has any questions about the P90 I will try my best to answer them

    Pre-Surgery Caffeine

The reason for no caffeine or carbonated drinks is that these thinks promote the creation of ulcers. Imagine your now tiny little stomach with an ulcer in it....ouch. Now even worse imagine that you continue with bad habits and that ulcer gets so bad they have to remove part of your tiny stomach. Not much left there. I have read a few "horror" stories of post surgery patients who just couldn't kick the addiction....scary stuff. I was a total caffeine addict....pot of coffee in the morning, diet pop all afternoon, and if we went out for drinks I would get vodka and red bull with a splash of cranberry. But I did it, I gave it all up for the surgery and for my health. Why keep the caffeine around? We know it's bad for us! I got the surgery so I could live longer!! I have been an insomniac for many years, guess what....I fall asleep faster, sleep better, and sleep longer since giving it up. Who doesn't need more sleep? For this reason alone it was worth it.

What to expect 3 weeks post op?

I had never had surgery before this either. I had mine on October 4th and I still feel like I'm recovering. I get tired really easy, still have a bit of internal pain if I push it too hard, I definitely still have to take things slower then I would like. But with each day I can see improvement and my activity level has slowly been going up.

    So Tired!!

The ONE thing (at least there's one...lol) I have been doing well is that I have been almost religious about taking all of my vitamins everyday. I think it's mostly cuz I'm scared if I'm not getting protein or vitamins that I might just pass out in the hallway. It is extremely tough getting them all in, plus I added Biotin to my line up, but I keep trying to plug away at them.

    Need advice/opinions

I got my surgery in South San Francisco at a Kaiser facility. If you do your research I'm sure you'll find quite a few Kaiser surgeons who have lots of experience doing sleeves. My surgeon was Dr Robert Li and he did an amazing job. I know there are 3 Kaiser bariatric facilities around here and I'm sure some of the So Cal ladies on here can pipe in about facilities down there.
  9. I was sleeved on October 4th.....had a bit of a tough recovery but made it through fine. I am at Stage 3 foods according to Kaiser's plan ( ground poultry, tofu, cooked veggies). I try to get as much Protein in as I can but I know I am not getting anywhere near 50 - 60g. It is starting to worry me that I am getting soooooo tired sometimes. This afternoon I had 1/2 piece of bread and a hard boiled egg for lunch (most I've ate I think) put my dishes away and then passed out for 3 1/2 hours. This has happened to me a few times. Other than this a general feeling of being weak and tired all the time, but I can usually push through it. I want to feel like the sleevers on here who say they feel awesome and have lots of energy!!! What's the secret? What's wrong with me? Sorry if my post is a little run on...not a natural writer here.

    Outpatient??

I stayed for 2 days. I have NO kids and couldn't imagine doing that. Everyone's recovery is different but I think you'd definitely need at least one day to rest, get all the anesthetic out of you, and get x-rays to check for leaks. Best of luck to you, I hope you really push for the inpatient!
  11. Hey, thanks for your kind words and advice... am defo an ex smoker now... that really cheered me up!!!

    head in the shed

Coops, this struck me as such a coincidence. I quit smoking last October due to having Pneumonia!! Cold turkey is the only way to do it, the sooner that nicotine is out of your system the sooner your cravings will go away. I found the trick to quitting is being prepared. Knowing that life is going to throw all kinds of stressors your way (work, kids, school, death and a million other things), but just knowing that when these situations pop up that your going to crave a cigarette puts you one step ahead of the game. Having the mindset that, yes I am going to crave no I am not going to give in really helps. Other then that, sugar free gum, computer games (for those restless fingers), candle lit baths. Do things that make you happy, you'll be enjoying the moment and not missing the cigarette. Oh, very important THROW ALL YOUR SMOKING PARAPHERNALIA AWAY!!!! Cigs, lighters, ashtrays, EVERYTHING!!! No reminders! Besides you are now an ex smoker and you won't need them. At a year out I can honestly say I only think about a cigarette maybe once a month now, and it is such a passing thought I barely notice. If you need any help or support please feel free to message me any time!!

    Food Servers seemed annoyed

I am aghast at the "anorexia plate" comment. I spent 17 years of my life in the restaurant industry, waiting, bar tending and managing. I can't believe your server would say that...I know any place I worked at would have written me up if not fired me for making a statement like that. A servers function is to bring you what you need and to make your time at their restaurant pleasant. Not to give their commentary on what your eating. Sleeve 4 me, don't be afraid to say something to the server next time if they make a rude comment, you're the one paying their salary (and if I was there that server would have gotten an earful). If you don't feel comfortable doing that you can always discretely ask fro the manager, who I know would have a lot to say about your situation. I'm really sorry this happened to you sleeve 4 me, but now lets be strong and not let it happen again!
  14. Ok...I have to ask if anyone has tried popcorn??
  15. This is really interesting to me....since my nurse made it seem like rice, bread and pasta would kill me after the operation. And that many many other foods would just be too uncomfortable to eat. This is making me feel so much better that I might be able to have a few bites of this and that in the future! I think the only thing I am probably going to continue to avoid is diet pop, it was such a hard battle (headaches, moodiness) to get off it, why tempt the devil? lol
