    Finding ENERGY after surgery

At a week post-op???? Honestly it sounds like you are trying to do way too much! I wasn't released for bending and lifting (laundry) until 3 weeks out and no gym for 6 weeks. I'm at almost 12 weeks now and have no stamina or energy issues. Even though I went back to work after a week, I was definitely TIRED until after the 3rd week.
  2. Mine started the day before surgery, as well. Like the others, I was given bizarre, mesh panties and a pad. I could go back to tampons the second day in the hospital.

    Return to work

I had surgery on a Tuesday and returned to work the following Monday. I'm a teacher, and I did have to sit more than I normally do, and I got VERY tired in the afternoons for the first couple of weeks. 43 years old, BMI was 35.

    Throwing up..help?

I'm not quite at 3 months. Lost 45 pounds in 9 weeks and have been stalled ever since! For the weirdo throwing up (really more like spitting up), I just learned to slow down......and to portion out really tiny amounts of food to start with. If I was still hungry, and I never was, I would have had more. For me, normal food today is pretty much a Protein bar, tuna salad with melba toast, and broiled or baked fish. Still can't eat beef and really haven't attempted salads or veggies.

    Throwing up..help?

I had the same problem when I started eating soft foods. Finally figured out that I was trying to eat too fast and too much. Old habits die hard, I guess!
  6. I am still struggling with many forms of chicken, but load up on fish! Tuna fish, tilapia, even catfish about once a week. For breakfast I usually eat a protein bar....never could get the hang of the shakes, they all made me gag!
  7. I was 241 pre-op, surgery 12/28/10, and am currently 195! Love my sleeve!
  8. Hey Holly! Doing great! Love my sleeve! It looks like you're doing really well with yours, also! How do you feel?

  9. I know how hard it is, but I've found that I'm MUCH happier and less stressed if I only weigh once a week. I think particularly with women, our cycles tend to effect our weight because of the water retention. Honestly, I was weighing 10 times a day and making myself INSANE!

    BMI around 30

My BMI was 35.1 when I went for the initial weigh-in! I did gain about 12 pounds during the pre-op phase, but still received these looks from folks---and even a few outright questions---of why are YOU doing this? Personally, I'm thrilled! The results have been better than anticipated and I love the way I'm feeling!
  11. I'm 4 weeks out today & have been on mushies for a week. This generally means for me---cottage cheese, lite pimento cheese, & mashed potatoes. My question is this---as these foods have little consistency as it is, how do you get into the "chew, chew, chew" habit??? I can maybe chew the cheeses for 5 bites, but not the potatoes. I guess I'm afraid I'll never break my speed eating habit & screw up my sleeve! Any suggestions?

    oily film in mouth

It sounds to me like ketosis. If you ever tried Atkins or even South Beach you develop horrid breath once your body goes into ketosis!

    December 2010 Sleevers!

Hi all! I was sleeved on 12/28 & am officially down 30 pounds! Still on mushies and no stall to date.I'm absolutely thrilled! The Water has been easy, but the Protein is really hard for me. Anxious to try the Peanut Butter chocolate shake, though. I, too, wake up every night at 3--no pain, no reason just awake! Honestly? The whole process has been so much easier than I had imagined possible. Love, love, loving my sleeve!

Would like some feedback. . .

My doc also stresses the 3 meal, no grazing rule! Of course, I'm still on liquids so I haven't had to deal with this yet. The reasoning behind their logic is that most of us aren't "normal" eaters. If I could have followed the literature and lost weight, I'd never have had 85% of my stomach removed in order to lose weight! But, at least for me, I ate emotionally, I grazed, and I just loved food! I'm willing to follow my surgeons advice and hopefully gain a healthier relationship with food in the process!

    Full Liquids post op?

My doctor kept me on clear liquids while in the hospital. I stayed 2 nights and on the 2nd day, after the leak test, was allowed some juice. Once home it's 3 weeks full liquids and then 2 weeks of mushies. That being said, the liquids--clear or full---were very limited the first several days home! I'm 16 days out and have lost a total of 21 pounds! Shocking to me!
  16. My surgeon had me on full liquids for a week prior to surgery. It was not the most fun week of my life, but not too hideous either. As this was the week of Christmas, I did slip on Christmas Eve---worried the rest of the time that I was going to be rejected or something as soon as he saw my liver! Needless worry!
  17. I'm in Mesquite but teach in Dallas ISD. I was approved the day after it was submitted, but found out by calling the TRS BCBS folks. Dr. Barker did my surgery and all seems to be well! Who is doing yours and how soon are you wanting to have it done?

    Drinking Water

It's the opposite for me. Pre-sleeve I would barely get in 8 ounces a day---but gallons of diet coke! Since surgery I'm drinking between 40-50 ounces a day. I'm only 10 days out, so hoping to stretch it to the 64 ounces soon.
  19. Hi GFG! Sorry, I haven't responded. I think I was having surgery when you first messaged me and somehow missed it. Honestly, I'm usually only looking on my phone right now and there are some limitations in capabilities. Where are you in Texas and when is your sleeve scheduled for? This process has been amazing for me and hope it will be for you, too!

4 days out and feeling full?

I haven't been hungry at all and tend to be full after maybe 3 bites of yogurt. I'm day 10 post-op & really not doing well with the protein because they all taste so awful! Takes me close to an hour to get in a single shake.

    REGRET

I'm only 10 days out and honestly not a single regret! I've lost 19 pounds since starting pre-op diet on 12/22. There have been a few moments of pain, but it was really more discomfort. I had surgery on Tuesday & was back at work (high school teacher) on Monday. This week has been a little more difficult, mainly because I get tired about 1/2 way through the day. Seems like Wednesday I was hurting a little more than usual by the time I hot home. As long as liquids are room temp, I'm okay & absolutely zero hunger. Sometimes smelling or seeing a food makes me wish I could eat, but there's no hunger so it passes quickly!

    Pre-Op Weight Gain?

When I went for my first appointment in September I was at 35.1 and my surgeon cautioned me about losing weight prior to approval. Well, I did pretty well at maintaining right up until my last appointment. I finally started cutting back on calories and lost about 8 pounds. However, since getting my approval and have a surgery date (12/28) I seem to be shoveling food into mouth as if I'll never eat again! It has me a little frighened, because I'm just adding pounds I'll have to lose again at the end of the month---not to mention that my body feels terrible stuffing food in all the time. Has anyone else hadthis problem right before surgery?
  23. FINALLY! My sleeve should be started in 3 hours! Think I'm too excited to be nervous!

    Can't Sleep!

So, my surgery is tomorrow at 8:30, have to be at the hospital at 5:30 and I cannot sleep! I think I'm excited and a little nervous, but mainly just afraid I'll oversleep and miss the surgery. Am I crazy or did anyone else get this paranoid just before surgery?
  25. I'm good, just don't feel like I have everything ready for tomorrow! Hopefully, I'll get finished cleaning house tonight. Have to be there at 5:30.

How are you doing? Have you gotten your energy back, yet?
