band removed but no sleeve BUMMER
Options? I will have to wait for the sleeve in 9-12 weeks. I will still get it, it's just the doc could not do it in one surgery. The insurance sent 2 approvals so it's covered (one for removal and one for sleeve).

September sleevers wanted!
yeah!!! best wishes and good luck -- keep us posted

September sleevers wanted!
re: mesh..... I would expect the reason is that the top part of the sleeve which as the most risk for leaks is in that area. And that is where the band is/was.... so take out the band and it's now red, inflamed, and torn (due to the adhesions, etc). donna - banded 7/07, removed 9/10, sleeve planned 11/10

September sleevers wanted!
I so wanted him to push forward -- told him I'd be one of his 30% chance of patients that could get the sleeve in same surgery -- but if a band removal should only take 1 yr and mine took 2-3 that confirms the adhesions, scar tissue, etc -- I worry for those who 10 yrs from now get band removed, doc's will have to cut off that part of the stomach to get it out. I am so glad I did this now and did not wait.

band removed but no sleeve BUMMER
I had my band removed yeserday -- doc gave me 30% chance he could do the sleeve. He said if their were an adhesions, etc he would not do it -- to risky given the top staple line is right where the band is removed. Well I woke up with no sleeve ---- I am so sad.......:thumbup1:

Revision = Leak Rates 3x Greater??
I heard the same stats from my doc -- because of that he wants to do my revision in 2 surgeries -- band out then wait 9-12 weeks for the sleeve --- bummer

Did you get to keep your band?
I was going to ask my doc if I could keep my band..... that little bugger was a blessing and a curse and I want to keep my eye on him :-)

5 Months Banded . . . now looking elsewhere
I hear ya! I have suffered for 3 yrs with a full band and no restriction -- then pain started -- it's a blessing and a curse. I am getting a revision next month
-
my revsion will have to be 2 surgeries dang it
did the 50 pds come off? I had my band unfilled in Jan and started getting it filled again in Mar -- still by July it did not have alot of fill -- and for that I had an extra 25pds -- so now I am with an empty band again - and that sick to your stomach have to eat feeling worries me. this sucks
-
my revsion will have to be 2 surgeries dang it
I guess even with a band that could not provide the restriction it needed - It was controlling hunger by the food hitting the nerve on the top of the stomach that shuts off the hunger. that plus the discomfort that stopped me from eating. Now I am so hungry - like a 24/7 pit of stomach hunger. I hate that:thumbdown:

Revision in one operation or two??
true -- however, I will get an endoscopy so the doc can see the insides - but even thought I am a starving loon and so want to start my weight loss again, it's better then dying becasue of a revision gone bad. so my doc is conservative - rather have that then the other.

Revision in one operation or two??
I now have to have the band and sleeve in 2 surgeries -- so not happy
-
my revsion will have to be 2 surgeries dang it
:scared0:Seems that's what he like to do - plus he's consulted with his peers and they advised this also. Where the band is - is the location for the greatest chance of leaks -- from 3% to 20% chance of a leak if I have the revision in one surgery so band out - then wait 9-12 weeks for next surgery --- aaaarrrrggghhhhh I want to be safe so I'll deal - but my Fluid has been out of my band since Thursday and I've been starving - and NO it's not head hunger it's pit of the stomach I am hungry going to be sick feeling I have not had in 3 yrs

Just another story
I am revising from band to sleeve in Sept. my advice = write a heartfelt letter with details on how under your last insurance you got the band and have been compliant with it and did your best - but the band failed you.. I'd even post other ins. companies policy statements on revision. Then ask ever so humbly that they pay to have the band removed and while the doc is "in there removing the band" that he revises your stomach to the sleeve - then quote all the great things about the sleeve. I'd also write a letter for you to give to your PCP or other doc for him to state the (1) removing the band and (2) revision to VSG is medically necessary.

2% vs 1%/Skim Milk
I too am in the buy skim milk habbit -- based on the 10,001 diets I've been on over the years. But in reality - I did not get "fat" because I drank too much whole or 2% milk. So I don't drink it unless it's mixed in ceral or a protein shake -- and I think I would drink more if it was whole or 2% -- becasue in all my 30+ yrs of dieting I've never gotten used to skim milk. So thanks for starting this post - I am going to buy me some good non-skim milk today and drink it!!

I just got approved for my revison (band to vsg) 1st available surgery date is Aug 31st -- however I am scheduled to go to a conference (in Vegas) the week of 9/13-15 -- is that doable??? (not worried about not being able to eat, as I can back my Protein drinks and instant Soup.) OR should I ask for a date after the conference? I assume by 2 weeks out I can eat soup? shakes? I can pack my protien power....... yes it's in vegas, but for me (a single mom of 3 kids) I use these once a yr conferecnes for my much needed R&R - as in sleep in a bed by myself
