    Where are my Flirty Thirties?

I think I saw something in a recent fashion mag that, without irony, gave tips on how to wear the grunge look but make it hip and fresh!:001_tongue: More mid 90's stuff: I wore dark dark red lipstick that I painstakingly lined and filled in, my friends were always complaining about the time it took me to do my lips. of course the rest of my face was super pale. What else ... friends used Kool-Aid to dye their hair ... most of the boys hair was as long or longer than a lot of the girls ... and long before Twilight the hottest thing at the movies was Brad Pitt as an anguished vampire with luscious, luscious lipsss ... Or Brad Pitt as the tortured WWI veteran in the wilds of Montana ... Gawd what his butt did to a pair of chaps ...

Update on Surgery against my Will

Finally. I was starting to feel like we were just feeding into the attention-seeking with our sympathies. If a mother of small children is struggling with issues as great as these I can only hope that professional help is sought. I knew something was up when she mentioned that the police were involved because of her, nightmares? Red flag.
  3. Well I've barely begun my sleeved weight loss so I'm still huge and I'm here to tell you, it is ALL about attitude. There are LOTS of men out there who revel in lush soft curvacious women. Those who weren't attracted to me, why would I care what a person who isn't attracted to me thinks? The most recent guy had pursued me heavily and when I finally asked him why, he said I was really pretty and had a certain something and he just couldn't take his eyes off me. I don't think it could have been any more pleasurable hearing that sentence if I had been skinny!

    Where are my Flirty Thirties?

I'm 32 too!!!! Just turned in mid-August. High School class of '96? There sure are a lot of us 32sies here, I blame Kate Moss! lol, in high school I was built like Marilyn Monroe in the grunge mid-90's when heroin chic was the look, crap! Anybody else remember flannel, flirting with the tabs from soda cans, and Doc Martens?

Update on Surgery against my Will

Therapy can give us the strength to stand up to the bullies in our lives, whether they are doctors, ourselves, or husbands. It is not uncommon for abuse victims to have disproportionate responses to everyone except their abuser, since they are not "allowed" to get angry at the abuser, they instead get angry at everyone else.

Changing Tastes: What were the big surprises for you?

I tried bread the other day for the first time since surgery. It was fresh and warm and stretchy and GROSS. It tasted like raw flour and I know this was my taste buds not the fault of the bread.
  7. So the scale is not really moving but I have a pair of pants that are fitting more comfortably with every passing day. However - is this because I am "breaking them in", or is it because my body is changing shape? I have another pair of pants by the same maker (Old Navy) in the same size. They are actually stretchier than the ones I am wearing and yet they don't fit well enough for me to wear them in public. Which is it?
  8. Sparkly you ROCK! Let me be the first to say, wahooooo! It really did something to my spirit when I went from fat to obese, like it took away my hope. There was still hope in me when I was fat, hope that I could turn things around. The O word hurts and I am thrilled for you that you have put it behind you! You are faithfully using your tool, congratulations to you!!!!

    Built like a peasant!

It has been so long since I've participated in fashion that I have no idea what looks good and is in style for someone with wide hips. Thoughts? Suggestions? In high school, the last time I was fit and trim, I remember loving skirts, I don't think I wore pants except maybe one pair of jeans that I occasionally borrowed from a friend. But that was in the nineties and I don't think grunge would really suit me now! Although, I did see recently in a fashion mag that it is making a kind of comeback, lol lol.

    50 + pounds question

I've heard that lightweights lose at a slower rate.

How can you tell the difference?

Update: I am now wearing those pants and they are quite comfortable. Am looking forward to them looking terrible again - terrible because they are too baggy!!

    got the munchies

I just discovered flavored & roasted almonds online at drugstore.com. I'm sure other online locations sell them but I use drugstore because they deliver to APO addresses. Wasabi, Toffee, salt&vinegar!! I can't wait to eat these (it's my TOTM too).

    looking for a snack

Okay, I hit the motherload!! I went to drugstore.com and typed in almonds. Planter's brand has a whole line called "flavor grove" of roasted and flavored almonds; chili lime, olive oil & sea salt, cracked black pepper onion & garlic, sign me up!! Then Blue Diamond brand has some dessert ones, I'm getting natural oven roasted almonds-butter toffee!!!!!!!! I looked at the nutritional value, I thought if they taste that good they must be loaded with secret bad for you ingredients and have off the charts calories. Nope!! Better protein and potassium in a 1 ounce serving than half a banana, about 100 calories - wahoo!! And one ounce is about 28 nuts, that's a lot of nuts!! I think I could eat 10.

    help!!

For a Balkan flavor a little white pepper, red pepper, tarragon, salt, & lemon juice would be good.

    looking for a snack

I wish I could get my hands on some garlicky hummus, I wouldn't even need the cracker!
  16. Has anyone heard of fatsecret.com? I stumbled across it while googling the calories etc. of my foods. The best breakdowns kept coming from a place called fatsecret.com so I took a better look at it. I didn't like the way dailyplate or fitday were set up, I know they work for a lot of us but they just weren't as user friendly as I wanted. Fatsecret is so cool, it breaks down all your foods into fat/carbs/protein/cals, and it provides a percentage pie chart so you can get a visual idea of just how much of your diet is consisting of fat, carbs, and protein. Plus, unlike myplate, it let me put in my daily caloric need of 600 - myplate wouldn't let me go below 800. Anyway, I finally found the one that works for me so I'm excited about it and sharing the info. :001_smile:

    Hobbies...

I knit while watching tv/movies, it was automatic before to eat while staring at the screen so I give my hands something to do. I also drink strongly flavored (decaf) tea, that way I get to taste something and give my mouth something to do. If you want carbless (darn near) carbs to satisfy the carb monster that won't make you feel guilty, go to "theworldaccordingtoeggface" blog, she has amazing recipes for protein cakes and crustless quiches and protein ice cream, not to mention a list of 50 things to do instead of snacking!!

    looking for a snack

Er, seriously? Isn't that like a salty greasy fried snack? And aren't they puffed full of air? How many constitutes a serving?
  19. I don't know that I would be able to bring myself to eat this, but if anybody is tired of sweet jello you could always make aspic, which is basically a meat jello. It was popular in America until WWII. I guess it would be a great way to get protein in but .... meat jello ....

    Heavyweight NSV

I'm a heavyweight too so I get how awesome this feels, yay! For my body it is nearly 40 pounds between sizes, when I go from a 24 to an 18, a mere 4 sizes smaller, I will have lost over 100 pounds.:001_huh:

    Ideas about candy?

I'm feeling the urge to nibble. I knit in the evenings to give my hands something to do but at work I don't want to get into any bad habits - snack foods are everywhere. Does anybody know of some good candies that sleevers can suck on without too much guilt? I'm assuming sugarless/sugar free and I figure if it is a hard candy then it will last longer in my mouth and give my tongue something to do. You might be thinking, gum! But gum is frowned upon in my workplace. A hard candy wouldn't be so obvious. So if anybody has any ideas on hard candies with negligible calories and no sugar, please let me know!

    so tirrrrrrred

I'm 5 days post-op and everybody keeps saying walk walk walk. So today I put on a sunhat, packed a little bottle of water and a little bottle of protein drink, put on my sunglasses, and took off. Leisurely stroll with plenty of stops to browse in shops, sat on a bench and knitted awhile, sip sip sipped. This was not a workout powerwalk by any means and yet after 3 hours I am finally back home and utterly wiped. Before anyone freaks out, at least 45 minutes of those 3 hrs was spent sitting on a bench knitting. I haven't had enough protein today (25gs) but a call from my nutritionist today convinced me that for right now #1 important is to be hydrated so water got ahead of protein. Why am I so tired? I'm not sleepy-tired, but I could fall into bed and stare out the window for a solid hour I think. I think I've also hit the wall of disgust and frustration with this nastier than possible protein powders. =( =(

    alcohol?

I keep hearing how we are such lightweights post-op so I have come up with a drink for us - The Tiny Tini - it's a martini but just a shot glass worth. Use an itty bitty aperetif glass and instead of olives, use capers!
