  1. after surgery, i was told that i needed to start taking Vitamins. it needs to be a multi-vitamin with an Iron B complex, Calcium citrate with Vitamin D. i asked the pharmacist at walmart and he suggested one a day women's active metabolism. they are pills - not chewable. i have not yet started them because i'm nervous about swallowing a pill this early out. can anyone suggest a good chewable vitamin that has everything listed? if i need to take 2 separate ones to get it all, that's fine too. i'm also suppose to take 2500mcg of B12 a week, but i got that part covered. i found some 500mcg b12s so if i take one 5 days a week, i'm good.
  2. My doctor does not require that i take one. I used prevacid the last few months of my band because i had horrible acid reflux. i have not felt that feeling with this sleeve. in fact, i dont have any symptoms that i can tell. i haven't taken anything since 3 days after surgery. honestly i can't tell if i need one or not. i know there are quite a few people that use a PPI, so i thought i would ask - do you think i should take one anyway even though my doctor told me i dont have to if i dont want to?

    Did your taste change post-op?

i'm only 2 weeks out so i'm only on the soft food stage. so far i haven't noticed any changes in my tastes. but before the sleeve, i would crave junk like chocolate and candy daily. now, i dont even want to look at the stuff. i dont crave it like i used to. it's weird, but i like it!

    Bye for now

    good luck to you!!
  5. tomorrow will mark my 2 weeks since my surgery. last night i decided to try some fat free refried Beans with a little bit of cheese mixed in. i took small bites and set my fork down in between bites. i think it took me about 20 mins or more to eat them. i didn't measure out the beans when i put them on a plate. i just used a small spoon and scooped out two spoonfulls. i was able to eat all of them with no problems. in fact, i didn't feel restriction at all. is this normal for this early out? could it been the beans i was eating? i'm hoping to feel restriction when i try some tuna or canned chicken.
  6. i took my 3 year old to see toy story 3 yesterday and got him some popcorn. i'm on 10 days out so i know to stay away from the stuff. however, it made me curious about when other started eating it. how long did you wait before you tried popcorn? i asked this on another website and someone who is only a month out said that she eats is frequently..........i was very surprised since i thought it would be dangerous for someone who is only a month out.
  7. my revision was done with just one surgery. my band was never fully emptied since my doctor didn't want to risk it slipping before surgery. i had about 3ccs in my band when i had my revision done. i didn't have to do a liquid diet at all before my surgery. i only had to do liquids for the 24 hrs before surgery.

    Physical Hunger

i am 2 weeks out today and i've have not had any physical hunger since surgery. my tummy rumbles every now and then, but i dont feel hungry at all.
  9. i weighed myself the morning of my surgery and i was 197. i would like to weigh 130 or less. my doctor said at my follow up appt that he could see me losing 40lbs with no problems. i was kinda surprised at that statement since i expected him to say a great amout of weight. since i was a lower weight than a lot of people of had the sleeve, do you think it's possible for me to hit my goal?

    Physical Hunger

i'm only 2 weeks out, but i can say since i've had surgery, i have not felt hungry at all. i've heard my tummy rumble a few times, but i dont feel hungry at all. i love it!!
  11. i'm not suppose to start soft foods until tuesday, but i just couldn't take the full liquids any longer. i heat up some fat free refried bean and mixed in a little bit of shredded cheese. it was so good!! i didn't measure it out - i just did 2 scoops out of the can with a small spoon. i honestly didn't think i would be able to eat all of it, but i did. i took my time and it probably took me about 20 mins of so to finish. i took small bites and put my fork down in between bites. i didn't feel full or like i overate either. is it normal to be able to eat more softer foods? i think i'm going to try a scrambled egg tomorrow morning for Breakfast. i just hope i feel a little bit more restriction than i felt with the Beans......

    5 Days Left

way to go! you're going to love your sleeve!
  13. i was sleeved (revision from band) on June 15....one week and one day ago. today i had my follow up appt with my doctor. i have lost 12 lbs and i am happy with the progress. however, i was hoping he would give me the okay to advance to the mushy food stage, but he told me to wait another week. he did say i could try a bite or two of eggs, but to no push it any further than that. i'm surprised he said eggs....i thought he would mention something more softer (like mashed potatos or fat free refried beans) i was really hoping that he would let me advance. the fulls liquids are not keeping me full. i've had enough sugar free pudding/jello, strained Soups, and greek yogurt i can take. going into the sleeve, i knew what the post-op diet would be like. it was similar to when i had the band. i guess i just was hoping he would let me just do full liquids for a week like he did when i had my band. any ideas on how to get through another week? how many weeks out did your doctor let you progress to the mushy stage? thanks for letting me vent and thanks for understanding!

    Lap Band vs VSG

i was banded in 2008. i did good for about a year. after my year, all my problems started. it was such a nightmare. i grew to hate my band. i was vomiting all the time, could never get my fills at that "perfect" spot, developed acid reflux, and a list of other things. after a few discussions with my doctor, we decided to remove the band and do the sleeve. my band was pretty much empty for 2 months up to my sleeve surgery. i did gain some weight back, but it wasn't a huge amount. i had my revision surgery last week and even though i'm still on liquids for another week, i am 100% happy i did this. i would never try to talk someone out of a specific surgery, but i would tell them my experience with the band. just do your research and pick the one you feel is best for you. good luck!

    Docs in Dallas Area?

I used Dr. Castro in Dallas. He's wonderful. He did my band in 2008 and then did my revision surgery last week. Never had a problem with his staff.....everyone is great. He operates at 5 or 6 different hospitals. New Beginnings Surgical Group - Dr.Manuel E. Castro MD, PhD, FACS , Bariatric Surgery, Gastric Bypass, Sleeve, Lap-Band Surgery

    straws....

i know that straws are a bariatric "no no". however, when i had the band, drinking with straws were ususally the only way i could get all my Fluid in during the day. does anyone drink with straws now that they have the sleeve? does it cause you any problems? i had revision surgery on the 15th, and i'm still not getting all my fluids in during the day. i was thinking of trying with a straw since it made it easier with the band. what are your thoughts?
  17. this is a question for the ladies who have been sleeved for a while and take birth control. have you had any problems with birth control pills since being sleeved? i took birth control pills while i had the band with no problems. however, on another board i read a reply from a member that said she had friend get pregnant while on the pill after the sleeve. i have one child now and eventually would like another, but do not want to get pregnant until i hit my goal. even while having the band, i've thought about getting an IUD. has anyone experienced a problem with an IUD after the sleeve?
  18. tomorrow will be my one week since surgery. my follow up appointment is wednesday. i still have that tight feeling in my chest that i felt after surgery when i would try to drink. i do take prevacid in the morning, and im not having any problems getting fluids/protien down. how long does this take to go away? i thought it had eased up the other day, but sitting here now, i can feel it. and i'm not drinking anything at this exact moment. the feeling reminds me of what it felt like when i would overeat with the lapband. any thoughts?

    Soups?

i'm still doing my full liquids, and i can't believe i didn't think about blending chili! in fact, i haven't blended anything.... did you just blend it to where there were no chucks? and did you add the cheese before or after blending? thanks

    how was the pain?

just to update now that i've had my surgery.... my pain was pretty much like it was with the band. VERY LITTLE. the major incision was the most painful....and it only lasted 2-3 days. all the other small incisions didn't bother me at all. in fact, i didn't even use the pain medicine they gave me. i'm now 5 days out and up doing everything i was doing before surgery. in fact, i cleaned my house today with no problems
  23. This is my doctor as well!! He did my lapband in 2008 and he also did my revision surgery earlier this week. He's a great doctor and his staff is wonderful. I'm not sure about his pricing since my insurance covered both procedures. Here's a link to his website if you want to check it out. New Beginnings Surgical Group - Dr.Manuel E. 24. i am a band to sleeve patient. when i had the lapband surgery, my son was about 17 months old. i just had the sleeve on the 15th and my son is now 3 1/2. with both procedures, i couldn't lift anything greater than 15lbs for the first 2 weeks. and then 30lbs for weeks 3-4. i did have someone help me when i had the band since my son was at an age where he still needed to be picked up at times. however, now that's hes older, i dont need as much help with him. he's big enough to do most things by himself (potty, get in the tub, get in bed, etc). if you're going to have surgery, i would sugguest you have someone around to help you anyway. babies dont understand they cant climb up on you like before. you dont want to get hurt. good luck in your journey!

    Pre-Op Weightloss

i have BCBS. however, i am a band to sleeve patient. when i had the band, i had a different insurance company. they did not require me to lose any weight before approval or before surgery. my husband switched jobs, and we now have BCBS. they didn't require anything in order for me to do the revision. my husband works for microsoft and they have EXCELLENT benefits. each policy is different. so just because my policy didn't require any weight loss before surgery doesn't mean others are the same way. good luck!
