  1. Maybe this is just me stuggling, BUT really why? My doctor has me on liquid and Protein drinks only for TWO weeks. She said it is to soften my liver and reduce the slick fat off of it to make it more pliable in surgery. How exactly does that work. Other people have said that it take alot longer than that for anything really to change in your liver. Is it not eatting solid food that FLUSHES the liver?? Is it not having carbs and sugar? I know I am suppose to follow doctors orders to the letter, BUT if you are slipping is there better slips than others. Protien, real fruits or verggies?? I know the further into I get, MAYBE, it will get easier. That or as I get closer to surgery I will get more scared and loose my appitie. Well, a girl can hope:001_unsure:
  2. I had my surgery on 5/4/10. During the surgery, while the doctors were stappling my sleeve, they hit my pancreus. As a result, they had to remove part of my pancreus. Needless to say I ended up staying in the hospital 6 days. I went in to my surgeons for a 2 week check up, I am still having quite a bit of pain, just below my rib cage on the left side. Doctor order a CT scan. Today she called and told me I have some Fluid near my drain site, oh and by the way it looks like there may have been some damage to my spleen as well. I really and feeling like I am loosing faith in this doctor. I was a self pay patient, And I do have a supplemental insurance through the office for 90 days, which SHOULD cover cost of additional services. I am struggling mentally. I just really want to feel good. At this point, I really can not comment on my sleeve because I think it is the one thing internally that may be right. Thanks for listening to me ramble. And Just get a few things off my mind.
  3. My hair is falling out by the handful. I had surgery on May 4. Had MAJOR complications. I knew there was a chance this would happen but really not sure what to do. My hair is VERY long. Past my mid back. Will it help if I cut several inches off?? If you lost your hair, how bad was it?? Thanks
  4. Thanks everyone for the support. Tiff I went in today and CHOPPED about 5 inches off the bottom and put in layers. It definatly looks much better, It is also nice to know that I am not the only one this is happening to. As long as I don't end up bald I am pretty sure I can survive this. I am praying I won't need another surgery, for the complications, so the hair loss wont get worse.
  5. Thanks Just hearing you say that helps, and makes my cry with graditude.
  6. of food does't make you want to hurl?
  7. They called just a few moments and moved up my check in time. I am hoping to get a little sleep tonight. Keep me in your thoughts and prayers. I will check in Thursday. THanks
  8. Surgery is Tuesday May 4th. As of right now I am feeling pretty calm. I have had my pre-op. Paid for everything. I need to wait til monday to know when I am supose to show up at the hospital. I am feeling pretty calm as of now. Though I know I am going to get anxious as it gets closer. I really need to sit down with the kids and let them know Mommy is going to the hospital. I am really not sure what I am telling them. They are 11 and under. So they don't need to know much other than Mom is going to be home and fine in one day. I have only told a close few because I am not ready to defend my choice. I would rather do that once I am sleeved. Thanks for listening I just needed some where to empty some of the thoughts that are running through my brain.
  9. I am just a day behind you. Tuesday is my surgery day. Know that you are no the only one going through this. For me that help, you know that I am not alone. Try to keep positve and looking forward. and what I have been told, is " sip, walk, rest... repeat."
  10. Thanks for asking this question. Some how I am not really thinking of what happens after. I am just thinking about going through. As I understand if you are drinking protien drinks count as both, liquid and protein. For me, I am going to try to get one good shake in a day. even if it takes all day to do it. Most of the shakes I have on hand are 30+ grams for the first week or to I am hoping that is enough.

    Preop diet...HELP

I think you would be ok to add in some seafood. Just watch for the higher fat stuff, use it sparingly. For example Salmon. Are you eating chicken, turkey, or pork, as well as your red meat??? eggs are another good protien sorce.
  12. YOU look FAB-U-LOUS. And are a fountain of information and a great guide for us newbies. PS How tall are you?

It looks like we could be sister. I am having my surgery on May 4, when I went in to for my initial I was 182. Ihave been doing preop diet so right now I think I am at 174. I am only 4'9", in case any one was wondering. Good Luck and keep us posted how things are going.:lol0:
  14. I am looking for some advice from those that have come before me, What was you MUST HAVES at the hospital or home? How soon do you start taking Gas-ex? and How often?? When you sip, are you using a straw?? Anything else you want to share with me would be GREAT!!!
  15. Thanks for the advise. Luckily I will only be at the hospital over night. So I think I will be able to just wait and shower at home. :thumbup1: Plan on having lots of chap stick, if my kids will keep from steeling the one I buy.

    Pre-op diet, WHY?

Thanks for the explination. So far I am doing good. I am hoping it gets easier in time. I have 5 kids so I have to make food and be around it and it is a little hard for me to explain why all I am doing is drinking shakes. I also am hoping that after surgery will be easier. I am guessing I really won't want to eat much. Really as of now I just want some grilled chicken. I do feel that now that I have three days under my belt I really don't want the carbs. I am hoping to break that hold, that and SUGAR. I also want a BIG bowl of steamed brocolli.

    I am so mad

You have to remember that doctors are JUST people. They have a little more education than some of us but that doesn't make the be all end all. And just like we get to choose out friend we get to choose our doctors. He may have been they right choice for you the last ten years but you are CHANGING so you may have to change doctors too. Don't let him get to you. I have found that men are not as sensitve to this issue as women. Try finding a Woman OB/GYN. Good luck and don't let him get in your head.
  19. I haven't had the dizziness or light headedness, but I have been feeling nauseuas. (excuse spelling) I never thought about being dehydrated. Guess I will try to add in some water. Though I am already SOOOO full from liquid "food". I am having issue of liquid in, liquid out. I know some people have complained about constipation I am not sure how that is happening, as I am having the opposite problem.

    I haven't eaten....

I just had the PrueProtien banana Cream shake, not bad, little after taste. For me doable. I am going to try and find the chocolate, that tends to be my go to flavor. For an 11oz can it had 35g Protein 2g sugar 4g carb I think. I found it at my GNC. Make sure you drink it COLD. I hope my tastes change I have 1 and a half weeks it surgery. So I am having the shakes for pre-op diet. The banana was kind of sweet, FYI.
  21. So last night I tried melatonin for the first time and as I was drifting off to sleep I started to panic about me choice for surgery. I started thinking,"what am I thinking having surgery because I am FAT?? WHat if something goes wrong. I have FIVE KIDS. " I am not so worried this morning, but still feeling uneasy. I am not sure if this is normal. I am not sure if these feelings are coming up because I am not really eating. (Drinking shakes does NOT = food) Am I having to deal with these feelings because I can not EAT or FEED them. I am scared of surgery. The only one I have EVER had was an emergency c-section and there was no thinking about that. I feel Like doing this is SELFISH. I mean, I know in the long run, I will be healthier and better for my kids. I will hopefully be around longer when I am no longer FAT. I am scared of being in the percentage that FAILS to loose weight. I am spending ALOT of money to do this since insurance doens't cover it. But even as I sit in bed typing this and I look ove in the mirror I think how can I NOT do this. I am disgusted with what I see. Thanks for listening as I barf my feelings and thoughts out on the computer.:blushing:
  22. Yep, having surgery in Salt lake. I am seeing his parner Dr. Richard's. Buy from my understanding they are BOTH in the operating room. So I get 2 for 1. But for what I am paying.... I will be able to have a single port operation, Dr. Cotham helped to pioneer doing it that way. I feel some comfort having a "local girl" who has done this. I still feel a little bit of a roller coaster of emotions about doing this. How I wish I was on the other side and DONE. The slight fear and anxiety is beinging to make me a little crazy.
  23. I am not much help with the soda thing, as I rarely drink it. But one of the things I am using is that I am having this surgery and there is a Don't list. Soda is on that. I may add white flour and sugar to that but only time and my new stomache will tell.
  24. :biggrin0:Thanks for the suggestion I will see if I can track her down and ask her about things
  25. YIPPEE!! another Utah girl. I am glad to have some info and support that what I am feeling is normal. I think up til now I had been happy and sprinkles about the whole thing. I am stuggling with the pre-op diet. I know my surgeron says it is to get the fat off of my liver, but I am not really sure about liquids only for two weeks. It is very hard to cook for family and yet happily sip a YUMMY (not) Protein shake. At least after the surgery i will have the sleeve to help. :001_tongue:
