Anyone else sleeved on or around Feb 27th 2010?
tiaras replied to tiaras's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's good to hear from other people who have are at roughly the same stage as me - although I know we are all different. I'm off to the Hospital on Tuesday for more tests as I'm not passing enough urine - despite drinking over 2 litres of Water every day. Will be good to get checked out xx -

I hope you are feeling better now and that things are settling down. Big hugs xx -
This is my first posting on here. (Hello All!) I had my sleeve op nine days ago and am pottering around, although I still have quite a lot of pain. I ordered loads of books from Amazon before surgery, about weight loss surgery - but none of them really say much about VSG. They all seem to be aimed at banders or by-passers. Can anyone point me in the right direction please (it will probably have to be online shopping for now ... oh, and I'm in the UK). Love to hear from you. Thanks Tiaras xx

tiaras replied to pumpkin07's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
What a wonderful post! I'm three weeks (ish) behind you and I too am really pleased that I made the decision to go for a sleeve. Six months ago I had never even heard of the op! Here's to us all! xx -
Hi Bookleen. Good luck with for 26th April! Very exciting. You will be losing your weight before you know it. Speak soon. Tiaras xx

Hi there. I replied to your post regarding being sleeved in Europe. I was sleeved at Charing Cross Hospital in Fulham, in February. It is a centre of excellence and I really can recommend it. If you want to have a look at their site, it is Welcome to Imperial Weight Centre Feel free to ask me any questions, not sure if I'll be able to help, but will try! xx

Hi Bookleen, I live in London and was sleeved on February 27th at Charing Cross Hospital which is a National Centre of Excellence. I have nothing but praise for them! I was lucky to get my op on the NHS because of my co-morbidities and from referal to surgery was four months. I'm also lucky that I live very close to the hospital, however I know several people who have travelled a long way to get there (including a couple of people from Ireland). If you want to look at their website it is Welcome to Imperial Weight Centre Good luck hun xx

All I can think about at the moment is guacamole! I know a little wouldn't hurt, but I'm not sure that a little would be enough! xx

Dreaded stall at 3 wks out

Ok, I found this somewhere else, but thought it was quite appropriate: HIBERNATION SYNDROME After WLS, you may be feeling tired and become depressed. When you are several weeks post op, and are either on a liquid diet or you are eating many fewer calories than you were pre op, this depression and inactivity can become more pronounced. All you want to do is sleep, you may have crying spells, you may begin to believe that the surgery was a mistake, or you may think 'what in the world have I done to myself? All these feelings are completely normal and, to a certain extent, are to be expected. The low number of calories you are eating produces what many of us call the 'hibernation syndrome' and your depression and feelings of despair, are a direct result. During the weeks immediately following surgery, our body starts to notice that we are not taking in enough calories. It doesn't know we've had WLS, or that it's the year 2000. Our body is missing food, thinks this is a famine, and struggles to conserve our energy. The human body reacts like it always has in a famine; it makes us depressed--so we don't have the motivation to do anything, and it makes us tired--so we don't have the energy to do anything. In this way, we will conserve as many calories as possible and remain alive. You can see the practical value of this as our bodies have been living through famines, snowstorms, and other periods of unstable food supply for centuries. This stage can last several weeks. Our discomfort is compounded as we are, at this same time, trying to recover from major surgery, adopt new eating habits, and deal with a liquid or soft diet. To get out of this stage, our body has to say to itself 'gee, this famine is lasting a bit too long. If I keep conserving my energy with inactivity, I will starve to death. I'd better use my last store of energy (the remaining fat and muscles in our body) to hunt up some food'. At this point, our body will switch from getting energy from food, to getting energy from our fat (and muscle too if we don't eat enough Protein and that is what we want. In order to deal with this difficult transition period, tell yourself that you're right on track; this is exactly what is normal and to be expected. Tell yourself that, in a few weeks, this will pass, and you will feel like a completely new person. We all seem to turn the corner about 4-6 weeks post op. Then, your mood will lighten and, with your weight loss starting to add up, you'll feel more positive and have a better outlook on life. Just keep telling yourself that you will not always feel this way! You WILL be back to feeling like your old self. Just give it time! -
Glad to hear you are on the mend! xx

I'm afraid I don't know, but would be grateful to find out. I'm a vegetarian and really miss my raw veggies xx

Unfortunately life doesn't stop just because we have wls hun. Accidents happen and sometimes you have to get over one thing before you can concentrate on another. Rest your ankle and you will, hopefully be able to start walking again before too long. xx

What a big step taken!

It's a good feeling, isn't it Viola! xx -
I sometimes think I would like all cameras to banned (especially hard as we have two professional photographers and umpteen amateur photographers in our family!) I would love to get a really good photograph of my 3 kids and myself and husband, but as far as I'm concerned I always spoil the picture! You are doing well and you will continue to do well - even if it takes a little longer than you hope or expect. Just give it a little time xx

It's true that there are no sites specifically aimed at sleevers in the UK, which is a nuisance. I'm just over four weeks done and it's not been plain sailing, and is something that will change your life and the way you live it for ever. Drinking and walking - definitely the way forward! xx
-
Yay you! Well done and keep it up xx

When my ex-husband (father of my son) and I split, I was skinny, mainly because of all the rubbish he'd put me through (but we won't go into that here). I haven't seen him for many years and my son is now 27, I'm extremely happily married to my husband (we've been together for 21 years and married for 18 months). Well my son got engaged a week ago - ten days after I had my surgery. I am thrilled about this and they are planning to get married sometime next year. It suddenly dawned on me that my ex-husband will probably want to be at the wedding and it would be so good if I could be looking slim and healthy rather than like a broken-down Mr Blobby. I would never knowlingly rub anyone's nose in it, so to speak, but it would make me feel a whole lot better if I was looking a whole lot better! xx

Whoa ... that sounds scary! So glad you got sorted out. Good luck with your even smaller sleeve xx

Should I cancel my surgery? Help!
tiaras replied to karaserene1985's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My husband was extremely supportive - once he'd been to a group meeting at the hospital with me. One of my daughters wasn't very happy - but that was only because I've had a rough ride with previous (non-related) surgery. Almost three weeks on from my procedure and all of my family are behind me. I haven't told friends (apart from one) - I didn't feel I needed to. With diet and a personal trainer you COULD lose weight, the question is - how long will you be able to sustain that and at what cost. Your body, your life, your money, your choice. Good luck! xx -
