    Let's Call This A Date....

I completely understand! My surgery date is May 13th and I start my liquid diet on May 5th. I keep thinking "om gosh this is my last week of food". Then a torrent of thoughts of what I should eat, how I shouldn't etc. I've done things like give up carbonated beverages and most sugar but there is still so much else. I have my pre-op tomorrow and I'm starting to get nervous and overwhelmed by it all. I have a lot of support too and I know the results will be worth it, especially when I keep hearing everyone else. Hang in there!

Good for you! I'm a couple of weeks after you and I'm looking forward to following your journey.

    I am so mad

I am so sorry that happened to you!! Working for a doctor I too hear so pretty amazing comments from them. However, you definitely have a choice about doctors. If you want to prove him wrong more power to you! But there are plenty of doctors out there who will support you and deserve to be supported! I'll support you 100%!

    Approved and have a date

Congratulations! I was so relieved when I finally had my date. I'm scheduled May 13th so I'm right there with you.
  5. I'm wondering when you went back to work after your surgery. I'm sure it depends on the type of work. I work in a medical office and am at a desk most of the time. Right now I am scheduled to go back on day 5. Is this unreasonable? I also encounter alot of patients throughout the day that have known me for quite awhile. How do I respond when they notice the initial rapid weight loss?

    Going back to work

Thanks for you thoughts. I might be able to work shorter days but it would only be maybe 2 hours shorter, but it sounds like even that would be helpful. I'll see what I can do about that.
  7. Well, I've been reading alot and posting some, but have never told my situation. I've been thinking about WLS for a couple of years but was scared to do anything. My doctor suggested it the first time and I cried for days.....realizing I had a serious problem that was going to eventually effect my health. Now, after really spending time considering all my posssibilities I am ready for the sleeve. I'm really exicted and have my date set for 5/13. I still can't believe I get to do this. Reading everyone's posts has been so helpful and you are a wonderful group! I'm worried about the emotional rollercoaster because I am already being treated for anxiety and depression but my doctors have all cleared me and say that I can do this. With your help and support, I know I can be a success! Sounds like I'm going to need to be reminded of this especially the first few weeks....thanks already!

    New here, new choice!

Congratulations! That is great! I have United and mine was covered also. They said initially that my BMI had to be over 40 and that was all. Then after being denied they said I had to have psych eval and nutrition visits 4 timesafter and 1 before the surgery. So just double check that you need nothing else. But then it was approved quickly and I'm already scheduled. I'm so excited for you and we will just be a couple of weeks apart. I have a desk job in the medical field and I wondered about going back to work also. Someone replied to me that they were okay on day 5 for our type of job. I'm hoping that's true because just like you it is hard to get coverage when I'm out. Good luck to you!

    Going back to work

Thanks to both of you. I think I'll be alright. I too have had a couple of other surgeries and was fine with them, so I'm hoping this will be the same. My office is very small and I kind of had to tell them. They have been very supportive so its not bad yet. It's the patients that I don't know how to respond to. I think I'll just play it by ear and see what feels right. Yes, I am a coach for girls basketball....and I love it. It is fun watching them progress and see the excitement they have when they can see improvement in themselves. I can't wait for the day when I can run around with them again. My surgery is in May so I am thinking by December I'll be able to play with them! Thanks for your encouragement!
  10. Thank you so much for sharing. As someone who is scheduled and anxiously waiting until May 13th, this is the kind of information I desperately want! Thank you and sounds like you are doing great. I hope to follow in your footsteps.

    Wednesday, April 28!!

Yea! That is so great....an I am SO happy for you!
  12. Dr. Jayseleen is my surgeon and I am scheduled for May 13th. So far I have found him to be wonderful. I am glad to hear that the nurse practitioner is good. I haven't worked with her yet. Sometimes the wait in the waiting room is really long, but I've seen him immediately after i get back to the room. I am very confident and happy with him. Hope that helps.
  13. I keep reading post and you all are so helpful. I feel like this is all I think about and I keep wanting to know as much as I can. What additional questions should I be asking at my pre-op visit (4/28). I 've asked questions at my initial visit and have been reading like crazy, but just want your thoughts.

    Pre-op visit

We'll be about 2 weeks apart.....you can lead the way for me!

    Pre-op visit

Thanks to both of you. I do have to attend a pre-op class and I'm sure they will answer my questions. But my pre-op is the same day as the class and before it, so I wasn't sure. I think I might just be driving myself crazy. goodlife - what is your surgery date?
  16. I just got my surgery date yesterday and I am scheduled for May 13th. I'm guessing it is normal to excited and nervous at the same time. I feel like I have an appt with my new life. How did you all feel and how did you prepare mentally? I am currently in counseling so that will help....but I always love your suggestions!
  17. Wow, you are so encouraging. I haven't had my surgery yet, but listening to your experience gives me such hope. I keep wondering how I'm going to get my meds down. Some I can crush and some I can't. I like the suggestion of dissolving them in liquid....thanks!

    Surgery was yesterday

Thanks so much for posting this. My surgery is May 13th and I really really appreciate knowing what it might be like. Reality might be better than what's in my head!

    My date is set!

Thanks. It's nice to know I'm on the right track. Hopefully, I'll get the calmness you did. Right now I'm still back and forth with emotions, but doing all the steps and putting one foot in front of the other.

    My date is set!

Thanks to each of you! I'm getting alot by reading all the information on here. I appreciate your thoughts.
  21. I'm pretty new here but have been reading everyone's posts for over a month. I thought I'd dive in and join in the posting. I just got my approval from the insurance company today after 4 months of fighting. I don't have a date yet because I have to go to my pre-op visit. I'm still in amazement that this is actually going to happen. I wondered how any of you explained or told your children about the surgery. Mine are 10 year old girl and 7 year old boy.
  22. Thanks so much for sharing. FYI...I'm in Dallas too and my surgeon is Nirmal Jayseleen.
  23. Thanks so much. I explained it to both of my kids last night. I drew them a picture and explained how it would help me with being more healthy and more active with them. They both seemed to understand and even be happy about it. They were most worried about me being put to sleep....funny that's not what I expected. Now i just have to go to the pre-op class and my pre-op visit which I already have scheduled...one step closer!
