Hi Bookleen I wish you the very best of luck with your surgery. Yorkshire pudding has a good point about the driving especially in regards to your insurance cover. However I was told I could drive after two weeks. I work from home so it wasn't a problem. You won't be able to take whole tablets for a week or so after surgery, but luckily I found that 2 paracetamol crushed up and eaten with a teaspoon or yogurt was all I needed for pain relief. Aside from the paracetamol, try and arrange to get any other medications you are on in tablet form before you go and check with your GP that they can be crushed. I nearly went out of my mind without my anti depressants for 3 days until I could arrange to get them in tablet form. Also, do get your stock of protein shakes in, the link below in strawberry and banana are my favourites, from holland and barrett:- Holland and Barrett - Product details for Whey Protein Another firm favourite that I lived on the first week is Petits Filous Frubes Strawberry & Raspberry Pouches, I got mine in Sainsbury's they are for children but I found them really handy and kept a few in my bag at all times. The protein and the frubes were all I ate for the first few days, I then added homemade finely blended vegetable soup, if you're away cuppa soups so long as you strain them (so there's no bits) might be an idea to take with you. I hope all this helps, love and best wishes Sandra
  3. There's much talk about the hormone ghrelin reducing hunger after surgery. I am possibly unlucky in that I still do experience hunger and have done from about three days after surgery. I'm talking real hunger here not head hunger, which I also have rather a lot. I'd be interested to know how many of us still experience REAL hunger? regards Sandra x:biggrin2:
  4. Thank you for all your great responses. I'm only 12 weeks out from surgery and even when I make sure I have taken my double dose acid reducers I still get hungry, 4 or 5 hours after my last meal, but it;s true I can ignore it. I'm currently having three tiny meals a day and maybe a protein shake. It's nice to know I'm not alone in feeling hungry, even though it is nothing like the ravenous need to consume I had before surgery. I hope many more people respond here as I'd love to show this thread to my surgeon who practically guaranteed I'd never feel hunger again. lol Thanks again Sandra x
  5. I made the decision to only tell my closest friends and immediate family, but needless to say word has spread and I'm now hearing all the above type remarks second hand. It's making me so mad! Why do people see what we are doing for our own health as their bloody business grrrrrrrrrr!!

    Holy COW!

Wow that's a real eye opener! I'll stick with the eggs and salad
  7. To those fabulous 100lbs in four months losers, have you any insider tips to share, regarding meals, how often do you eat, exercise, protein intake etc to help those of us who are making do with much slower losses? I should add, I'm pleased with my loss so far, but I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't want to lose the weight even faster!

    Tired of not being picked

I feel for you right now, most of us have probably been in your shoes. I've also found that when there aren't exactly hoards of guys pounding the door down, it is all too easy to form an extra attraction to the one or two that do. Chin up cityGal, in six months form now, you'll have your pick of the very best of them, and the thoughtless hound who hasn't even bothered to contact you since your surgery will be firmly a part of your past where he belongs. Best of luck to you, love Sandra x

    What Can I expect??

Everybody is different, we all lose at different rates. The day of my sleeve I weighed 275lbs, I lost 23lbs in the first four weeks, and have dropped at a steady 3-5lbs a week since. 12 weeks now I have lost almost 50lbs. I can't exercise due to back problems, but my back is already showing great signs of improvement. My friend who had her sleeve operation on the same day as me, has been to the gym three times a week and she has lost 37lbs. But we are both happy with our weight loss so far. hugs Sandra x

Hello to all, Mr Ammori did my sleeve in Manchester and I couldn't be happier. Apart from a 50lb weight loss in just 11 weeks. After the surgery I had very little pain, no nasty staples or stitches to be removed afterwards, no catheter and no drainage tubes, just 5 neat little wounds covered with steri-strip and waterproof plasters. I paid ?9,500 privately with "Healthier Weight". That was with a discount of ?1,000 I got sent as a December special offer. I would highly recommend Mr. Ammori to anyone. love Sandra x

    I'm a mess!

Aw Jen, You're doing so well, you've got the best outlook. It's so easy for us to be down on ourselves, especially early on. Learning what can and can't be eaten takes patience and time. hugs back to you love Sandra x

    Um... endowment?

I'm sure when the fat pad you mention shrinks back, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

    I'm a mess!

Don't panic it's still very early days, and remember we all heal at different rates. I was told not to attempt soft foods and especially not meat for at least 6 weeks after surgery. Right now you'd be best on mashed and blended foods little and often until everything has healed properly. Do follow up with your GP, I'm sure everything will be fine just give yourself and the surgery time. love Sandra x
  14. As everyone else says, I too have no regrets. I can honestly say, nothing has been awful or negative for me at all. The post surgery pain was more of a soreness than any REAL pain, to be honest I've had worse times at the dentist. It's strange the first few weeks not being able to eat the amounts you're used to eating, but it gets easier by the day to gauge what you can and cannot eat. I'm nine weeks out now and can eat tiny amounts of most foods, but I do try and follow the protein and veggies first rule. It's only natural to be worried, but you'll be fine I'm sure. love Sandra

Hello All I've only just found this corner or vertical sleeve talk but wanted to say a big Hello:biggrin0: to all fellow Brits. I'm in Prestatyn north wales and had my surgery in Manchester on 23rd January 2010 with Dr Ammori. I'm doing ok so far, I've lost two stone already so I must be doing something right! love to all Sandra x
  17. I can understand the panic when the weight fails to drop off, I think we've all been there. The trouble is we all know we've had something major done when we are only a few weeks out but the weight doesn't seem to want to come off as fast as we feel it should. I'm just biding my time for now and trying to be patient.
  18. Thank you for all the info best wishes Sandra x
  19. Immediately after surgery I was very nauseous. The nurses gave me every anti sickness medicine going it was so bad, I wondered how I was going to cope. The weird thing was that when I had the pain meds it stopped the nausea. Although I was given anti nausea meds to come home with, I didn't take any I just kept up with the pain meds and after a few days I stopped them aand have been fine since. It'll pass soon I'm sure
  20. I'm only thre weeks out and have lost 20lbs and i am delighted!
  21. I'm only 18 days since surgery, the first week I lost 9lbs, the next week 0 , but just weighed myself today and have lost another 5lb, 14lb in total since my op.

    Burning, tugging inside belly pain

It is still very early days, I had all sorts of weird pains the first few weeks. Don't worry, keep on top of the pain meds, but best of all REST. You need time to heal after this major surgery. love Sandra

    Spinal after Surgery...???? Huh?

For my two pence worth, I didn't need anything other than the paracetamol even though the pain when I first woke was quite sore, I never had any amount of pain that I felt would warrant a spinal.
  24. I'm only four days out and am having about 500 cals per day. I prefer the milky yoghurts as they seem to satify me longer. love Sandra
