  1. Okay so quite a few people around here cannot stand Protein Shakes. I don't blame you! Mine's starting to get realllllll old. Anyway, I was reading a blog today (Melting Mama, a RNY patient) and she had this review. Capella Flavor Drops - Zero Sugars - Pure Flavor. - melting mama I Product enabler. It's basically sweetener-free super concentrated flavorings. There's everything from cinnamon danish swirl to buttered popcorn, graham cracker, and apple pie. She says she would use them in anything, but most of all suggests Protein shakes. Her suggestion is to get basic flavored Protein Powder (chocolate, vanilla, unflavored) and add whatever flavor you want. I haven't tried this, but it's worth a shot! And had I not just ordered another 5lb. tub of MY protein powder (since mine has a three-word-long flavor name of its own) of choice, I'd be giving this some serious thought! Worth a try if you're struggling to choke down your shakes!

  2. I read somewhere here that a lot of people don't do well with eggs right after surgery, with similar results to what you had it sounds like. My dietitian said to try everything, and if something doesn't work, try it again in a week or so. May just be that you need to mix something in with the eggs? The only eggs I've had so far are some mini crustless quiches I made, so they had artichokes, crabmeat, onions, etc. mixed in and that was fine for me. :001_smile: I was never that big on eggs so I'm kind of trying to hold off on 'em for awhile! Good luck though!

  3. OMG. I would be irate! That is ridiculous! Wow, I'm sorry you're dealing with these jerks. I would do what both ishary and Tiffykins suggested and then, like Mary, find someone else if possible. Excuse my language, but those assholes don't deserve your patience or your business. Screw 'em!

Sorry if I've offended anyone. It's been one of those days. :thumbup1:

  4. So my roommate and I have a class together, and the classroom has the desks where the chair is connected, you know, the ones designed for SKINNY people? :thumbup1: Anyway, I always grab the ONE desk that has a little extra room (wow, put one fatty desk in the whole classroom...geniuses). The other day, my roommate grabbed my desk and I said "Hey! You took my fat desk!" and she laughed at me. So I sat in a regular one. And for the first time that I can remember in a long time, I didn't feel like I was wedged in there! I fit in desks now!!! WOOT!

I need to try the shadow thing as well. Woot Mini-me! :001_smile:

  5. I tried my first coffee since surgery earlier this week. I work at a coffeeshop and made myself the weekly special - so I used (all sugarfree) white chocolate, raspberry, and strawberry flavorings, 1 shot espresso, skim milk. I could only drink half, so about 8 oz. and that took me an hour and a half! By then it was cold. I just made sure I added some extra Water that day and didn't count the coffee drink toward my 64 oz. of Fluid (my dietitian has told me to count everything I drink, counting shakes too, WOOT!) I've also had the occasional cup of non-decaf tea here lately. I figure if you're getting all your water and the coffee is on top of that, should be okay. :001_smile:

  6. So far I've only done 2 days of cardio this week...which means now I get to work out for the next 4 days straight. But it's my own fault...

Anyway, Sunday: 30 mins of Leslie Sansone's "advanced" 12-minute-miles DVD (= 2 1/2 miles) & about 30 mins of strength training (abs, legs, & arms)

Today: 30 mins of Leslie Sansone again & about 20 mins of strength training (legs & arms today).

I get disappointed with myself but I'm just getting burnt out on college so I make excuses to not do stuff I need to do. Senioritis big time!

Wish I had some advice on the scale situation. But I'm only 6 weeks out so I don't have any words of wisdom. :biggrin0: But keep doing what you're doing! Don't get discouraged! Keep working out, eating the good stuff, and you can't help but lose! We're here for you! :001_smile:

  7. Girl you are a pure genius! I love it . . . bossy nosey lady won't even know what hit her. . . I love the idea you'll have food to take home and enjoy it over a few days. . . that is fantastic! I'll have to try that one day. . . wow, your amazing!

Woot! Thanks! :biggrin0: I was pretty excited that I actually found the menu since Bossy/nosey lady said she couldn't find one! Bonus points, LOL. :001_smile:

  8. Tell bossy lady "Asian food doesn't always agree with me. The last time I ate Chinese, I hurled and I sure hope I don't this time... By the way, can I sit next to you?? " My guess is that BL will avoid you like the plague.

This made me laugh. ;) And she SO would!!!! LOL.

  9. So, here's the update! Bossy/nosey lady took a poll from people she knows and came up with a list & reviews of like 6 different restaurants. She asked which one we thought sounded best. Me, being so subtle, said the sit-down-and-order-off-a-menu place sounded good. And she went for it! Luckily, I found a MENU online! Woot! http://www.menupix.com/menupdf/GreatChinaCarry1115.pdf I looked it over, did some research on some of the things to see if there were any Entrees without sauce because I reasoned with myself that I could do as Tracy suggested, order the huge meal, and then I will have yummy Chinese leftovers for a few days! I've narrowed it to moo goo gai pan or shrimp with lobster sauce, depending how I feel that day. Although I'm sure it varies, I found a cool site that gives some nutrition info for some of the more popular Chinese-American dishes (and is what helped me narrow down my choice). Chinese Food: A Wok On The Wild Side

Ultimately, I decided if I skip the rice, I should be okay with one of those choices. I'm going to skip appetizers, and no drink, of course! Then I will be more comfortable not having to dodge questions from Bossy/Nosey Lady ;) and I will have leftovers! I'm "allowed" to eat pretty much (within reason of course) whatever I want now, and am only eating 1/4c. per meal, which leaves me full! So if I keep the carbs + fat + cals as low as possible, I think I'll have a yummy, fun lunch! Any input on this?? Am I making a mistake?

  10. I'm 6 weeks out now and it's not constant for me anymore. There is still some burping after eating or drinking, but no big man belches for me anymore! :blushing: And they're the kind of little burps where I can keep my mouth closed so I don't draw everyone's attention. I think I burp less & less every day. But from what stacie said, maybe it's different for everyone?

  11. Refried Beans were what I was most looking forward to after I got out of surgery. (That and peanut butter!) I think my first day of mushies I wasn't even able to finish my 1/4c. and was disappointed because I waited so long for them! :blushing: LOL. I'm 6 weeks out and my dietitian has told me I should be eating 1/4c. at each meal & no snacking. I don't know if she will tell me differently at my 3 month post-op appt. or not. But it was definitely a change going from 1/2c. Soup at each meal to 1/4c. of mushies and now solids! It's a big change, and tough to getting used to stopping, but you'll get used to it. I too have had a couple of times where I ate too much...and paid for it in pain! Keep doing what you're doing, lady! :lol0:

  12. My order of Bariatric Advantage chewy chocolate calcitrate + Vitamin D thingers will be shipped tomorrow. Woot! They are so yummy. I think they have 15 cals apiece, and I think it's 3 or 4 per day (I had it figured out once but forgot, LOL). So I figure that's not too bad. And when I asked my dietitian about the calorie count she told me not to worry about it. They are a little on the pricey side but I'm just sick of pills. I've never been good at taking them (I get that from my grandma!), so for me it is worth every penny! Excited to get something besides the 4 horsepills a day I'm currently taking since they get stuck in my throat. Hope y'all find something that works!

  13. Tiffy, did you try the Rich chocolate flavor of the Optimum Protein? I know you like Milk chocolate best, but I prefer the richer chocolate flavor. I don't really want to buy a tub to find that I don't like it.

    Anyone taste the Rich Chocolate??

I didn't think they were too bad, but personally I wasn't a big fan of any of the chocolate flavors. I got the sample pack & ended up deciding on caramel toffee fudge, with rocky road as my #2 flavor. :lol0:

  14. Ok, this is my evil angel talking . . . . yuuuummmmm bbbbuuuuffffeeettttt! I want buffet! Everything on it, I want to be bossy lady and stuff my face with artery clogging grease right now. . . . but of course, what am i having? Protein Shake? ??????? yuuuuummmmmmm tooooaaassstttt . . . wants toast, good thing i'm no where near a toaster! hehehehe . . . ahhhh the life of the weiry dieter . . . have a great day all . . love ya bunches!

This made me laugh. A lot. :scared0: And by the way, Thin, I know you said you're trying to steer clear of carbs, but toast is actually on my "allowed" list, starting with soft solids.

  15. Hey MWG, are you going to China? I went because I wanted to hike the Great Wall. Even at 100 pounds overweight, it was one of the best days of my life. My son and I just couldn't believe how gorgeous it was. We hated the food in Bejing until we found the Embassy district and a good Italian restaurant. Chinese food in China isn't what it is here in the USA. I just wanted to go to the Great Wall and do Tai Chi in the park with the seniors. I didn't learn any Chinese before I went. I didn't need to speak to communicate with the elders. I found it much easier to learn Japanese before going to Japan.

I would love to go someday. I had planned to teach ESL in China after I graduate from college (this May), but used my sleeve as a way to talk myself out of going....... I love to travel, but I am also a big homebody and I love being around my family (and fiance). I studied abroad in Wales Fall 2008, so that was my big travel experience so far, and while there I realized how much emphasis there is in other countries to speak another language fluently (besides English). That's the main reason I'm taking Chinese now. I have taken Spanish, French, German, and Welsh, and yet I am only fluent in English. So while I'm graduating soon I hope I can keep taking Chinese classes somewhere. Did you do the Tai Chi?! That would be fun! I hope to see the Great Wall someday too and I also want to visit Guilin, it's the city with the cone-shaped limestone rock formations. Google image it because I can't really explain! I'm curious, did you take Japanese classes or use Rosette Stone or something like that? I initially would have preferred Japanese but my college doesn't offer it. But now am glad I'm taking Chinese - you kinda get attached! :cursing:

  16. LOL! Thanks for making me laugh, Kokonut. :) And I will definitely update you guys post-buffet experience! I guess I just need to approach the situation with bossy/nosey lady differently. If she brings it up it's probably because she realizes she is eating enough for three people. :lol0: And I can feel good knowing that I'm no longer killing myself by putting large amounts of artery clogging food in my body! You guys always make me feel better! Thanks!
