    Any other Canadians out there?

Hi Guys! Well I just came back on Friday from my surgery with Dr Almanza and I had a great experience! The lady who was bashing Dr Betancourt was an extremely negative person who I think expected a day spa type experience when she was down there. I had researched and used my Mom's (stoongal) experiences to guide my decisions and I was going in with REALISTIC expectations and found that they were met with exactly what I was expecting! except for one thing, the staff was nicer and more sincere and Dr Betancourt was even more wonderful than my mom had described. He is SUCH a nice man, giving hugs and kisses on the cheek every day and night before bed. He is SO passionate about weightloss surgery that it just comes out of every pore! He is compassionate and friendly and HILARIOUS and just wonderful to be around and spend time with. In the evenings he would come over in his Mickey Mouse pajamas and hang with us at the kitchen table in the recovery house and just talk! wonderful man and he made our experience just that much better. I am doing REALLY well and am AMAZED at how the hunger that I would always feel before the surgery, is gone! It's just GONE! I no longer feel I have to stuff myself, I am content with my 1/2 a cup of broth or yogurt or Protein drink! I cannot believe it, but I really am! In fact last night I had some of my Protein Drink at about 4pm and by 5:30 when my family was eating supper, I felt like I couldn't put any more into me, So i sat with them and watched them eat and I didn't feel like I was missing out at all! It was rather liberating! AAAanyway, I seem to be losing at a rate of about a pound per day and I expect that to slow at about the 3 week mark as everyone reports there is a stall at that point. I'll keep you all posted and let you know how things are going!
  7. HI There! I'm sorry I haven't been able to respond to your message you sent me a while back!! I've been SO busy with work, the holidays etc etc etc that I haven't been on this forum for a while!! It will be nice to meet you down in Mexico!! I'm SOO excited and nervous, it's just over a week away!!!

  8. Hi Janet!

Yeah, it'll be great to meet you in person too!

I fly down on the 10th... I leave Lethbridge at 10 am-ish and head to Calgary, then fly out of Calgary about 12:30, head to Denver, then Denver to San Diego. I get in to San Diego at about 7:50 pm on Jan 10th. Then when I go home on the 15th I have a straight through flight from San Diego (at about 12:00 noon) to Calgary! Yay! Then I sit in the Calgary airport for about 3 hours, then home to Lethbridge on the teeny tiny turbo-prop airplane! Eek, that MAY hurt the stitches a bit!!

  9. HI Jaycie! My name is Alison and my Mom is Stoongal... she just told me that you are going to be joining us in Mexico in January!! I look forward to talking with you and meeting you! =)

  10. Wow Tiff!! I was just checking out your pictures!! What a transformation!! You must be SOOO proud!!

I just wanted to let you know I think you are stinkin' adorable! Everything you've written on the boards that I've seen has been so positive and full of energy! I love it!! You're an inspiration!

I hope to be as successful as you have been with your sleeve! Wish me luck, my surgery is coming up this January! =)

    Whatcha' Eating?

I saw a commercial the other day with a clear flavorless fiber powder that you can add to your food, or drinks to get your fiber in.. I can't remember the brand, Benefiber maybe?? Gosh, it had a model on the commercial saying that she has a hard time getting all her fiber and this was quick and easy... has anyone tried this at all?

    I still have questions...

Heehee! Thanks! Maybe you and your Mom should book your surgeries for the same date as me and my Aunt, then we can be the Canadian girls taking over the place! LOL! :biggrin0: How cool would THAT be?

    I still have questions...

WOW! You ladies have had SUCH success!!! I can't WAIT until I can start my journey! My goal is 150 lbs too and I can't even imagine myself at that weight -let alone that I could be there by sometime next YEAR!!! :w00t: I'm SO excited by reading all your posts and I'm feeling like there is HOPE! I DON'T have to be this way my entire life! I wish I could get my surgery tomorrow! Thanks for all the wonderful info, advice, tips and truths I have been reading on these boards... they have helped me in more ways than you know!

    I still have questions...

Yikes! I hope she is doing OK too! She didn't have a leak did she?? She just couldn't handle the liquids and yogurts etc after surgery? Gosh I hope that doesn't happen to me!! I don't handle coming out of the anesthesia well and ALWAYS feel sick for several hours and typically throw up a few times. I hope that doesn't continue too long afterwards!!! Yikes!!! I have had my gallbladder out and that surgery wasn't too bad, I made it through (as usual with some throwing up) but it stops, and then I feel better! Cross my fingers!!!

    I still have questions...

HI Lauren! My Aunt and I are having our sleeves done on January 11, 2010, and my Mom had hers at the end of September 2009! It's great to see another Canadian girl here! We can share this journey together! This is a great place to ask your questions and find your answers- it's especially helpful that the people responding are ones who have actually DONE the surgery and have experienced it first hand- it's a fantastic resource for those of us with inquiring minds!! Where are you going for your surgery with your Mom?

    Eating out of controll

Wow, Norma, thanks for that post! Your words are VERY helpful!! I too am struggling with trying to change my thought patterns about food and that it's not going to be a "diet" post-surgery, it's going to be a lifestyle change for my health!:biggrin0: I'm glad to see that this is a NORMAL response and that (it seems like) many of us are trying to rationalize and deal with internally! I haven't gone TOO overboard myself, but I could see myself heading that direction and trying to say goodbye to the foods that I have loved for so long! I know it will be something I will need to work on for a long time I'm sure. BUT, I'm actually SO looking forward to being able to eat like a bird so that one day I can be a hot chick!! HAHAHA! (Thanks Aunty Linda!):huh0:
