I had my surgery on September 3, 2009. My surgery was done by Dr. Alfons Pomp at NYP hospital. In one month I have lost 49 Pounds. I have gone down 6" around my waist. I have gone from a tight 4X shirt to a loose 3X. I am walking daily and hoping to be able to expand my workouts after I see the Dr. on Monday. I have been lucky enough to be out of work for the whole month as I really have used this time to heal and focus on myself. I have started talk therapy to try to circumvent the head hunger. Getting sleeved was the best decision I have made for myself. While I know I have a long way to go I really feel like I have the tools that I need to be successful. Thanks to everyone here as this forum helped me decide on this surgery. The fourm has also been helpful with my after surgery questions.

No stall yet! The best part about is that I have not been hungery. I have been eating between 500 and 700 calories a day. I know the stall will come but for now I am feeling pretty good!

The insurance companies are realizing that in the long run the WLS is cheaper for them. I guess that is a good thing. -
I am struggling with squeezing in 70 grams of protein in a day. I have been only able to choke down 1 protein shake a day thats only 30 grams of protein. On my best day maybe I can get in another 25 grams. I am usually full from just trying to keep myself hydrated. Has anyone tried the isopure? What could i do to up my grams?

I need some protein advice
kromrider replied to kromrider's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
omorrow I will be 2 weeks out from surgery. I found these super whey protein shots. They are 26 grams and only 90 calories. Fruit punch flavored only one carb. So far I like these. They do not have the isopure here so I am going to order so to see if I like it better. I just can't seem to stand anything related to milk? I used to love milk. -

I had my surgery yesterday in NY Presbyterian Weill Cornell hospital in Manhattan. I was scheduled for 10:30am and we got to the hospital at about 8:15 they wanted us there by 8am. Everyone in the intake area was very nice and the facility is generally very obease freindly. They brought me in and inserted my IV and I met the anasteasologist. At around 10 Dr Pomp came in and said that they were clearing the room and I would begoing in shortly. He had sign a consent for a studdy and he said that we had one of the best anastiesologists. I was very happy to hear this as this was one thing of many that I was worried about. at around 10:40 they came and got me and we walked to the operating room. Dr Pomp ha the best bed side manner and about 20 seconds after they put the white stuff in the IV I was out and woke up in recovery. Honestly it was rough. very painfull very nausious i was wondering what I did to my self. They gave me something for the nausia. It took a few minutes for the pain releif as they did not have my pain pump yet. They quickly got an order for a pain shot and that held me untill the pump came. honest they said I pushed the pain pump161 times while I was in recovery. but mostly my pain was under control when they brought me to my room. The room here is fabulus i have my own room with a great view flat screen HD TV with built in internet. my mouth was very dry and i was pushing that pain button every ten minutes. at around 8pm it was time for me to walk and I did pretty well. I was having stomach contractions they almost felt like the hickups that hurt. They let me suck on those little green sponges and i enjoyed the pain relief medicine enjoyed my nice room and watched the Yankees win. I did not really sleep untill maybe 2am. The nurse came in at around 7 and helped me out of bed. The cathiter was in and not the most enjoyable thing. The pain was getting better. I was able to walk to the area where they do the swallow test and everything looked fine. they took out the foly and gave me some water. the water was tough to get down at first but i was thirstly. they gave me a clear lunch and i really only drank the powerade. I was really feeling betterwith some pain but the pump managed it very well. I had some visitors. they brought me dinner that was the same as lunch but i have no hunger at all. I am expecting to go home tomorrow if i can tolerate the pureed food.I am very tired and keep nodding off as i write this. My next post will probably done from home tomorrow!

Anyone go home same day as surgery?
kromrider replied to TexasT's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery in NYC on Thursday and went home on Sat. It would have been tough for me to be home the same day. -
I am sorry to hear that you are back in the hospital. But I think you are in good hands. I know they took very good care of me there. I hope you have a speedy recovery.

I am 5 days out of surgery and doing pretty good. I am still taking some pain medicine my pain is only when I try to lay down on my left side. I have been walking a mile every day. It is at a slow pace but steady. I have been sipping my water and eating very gingerly. I have had some slight cramps im my stomach but the doctor said that was normal. The gas has mostly subsided. Other then that everything else is pretty normal.

Why would you leave the US for surgery?
kromrider replied to Leuteus's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
My Dr, Dr Pomp has done many of these surgeries. According to the staff at the hospital many perople come from around the world for him to do WLS. The care and treatment that I recieved at Wiell Cornell was second to none. I saw the doctor at least twice a day and his team 5 or 6 times. I was in for two nights but I did vety well. If I was not ready to go home they would have let me stay longer. I am very lucky as my insurance is covering my surgery. If I had to self pay I do not know what I would have done. -
Is Dr. Aceves the only one who oversews?

Okay I am a fat person. I like to eat. I have been overeating for most of my life, If I was not overeating I was probably on a diet. I have been able to maintain a healthy lifestyle for a time but I have always returned to my bad habits. I am wondering if i will be miserable without the option of eating unless I can find something that can replace whatever I am getting from the food. After this proceedure I will not be able to eat. I have heard stories about people who have WLS and become alcoholics or drug addicts. I was curious about what some of you who are post-op have done to replace the food?

Thanks for the reply. I do not want to transfer my addictions. I am currently in Therapy with a Psch. but he is more of a "pill pusher" then talk therapist. I am going to try to speak to him about a referal today to someone who is more of a talk therapist type person. I know i need that. I also have many issues with my job and i will be dealing with that while I am out. I know that while I am very qualified I will be much more marketable after lossing 50 or 60 pounds. How are you feeling five days out?

NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center
kromrider posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went and did my preop testing today at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center in NYC. I could not believe that I actually lost 4 pounds since my last visit. They took my blood some urine and gave me an EKG and a chest x-ray. I signed up for and did a memory study as Dr. Pomp was running late. 2 1/2 hours later i finaly got to see him. He is a very down to earth guy and I think that some of my other Doctors could learn from his approach. He answered my last minute questions and I really feel like I am ready. The hospital is great very clean and new with nice big chairs and exam tables I felt pretty comfortable with everything. Everyone was very nice. My surgery is scheduled for September 3rd. -

My surgery is on Thursday. I am going to Yankee stadium today for the first time this year. I am looking forward to a beer and a hot dog. My eating has really been under controll for the last week or so. My doctor does not have many restrictions aside from a clear liquid diet for two days before and I will be leaving the hospital on pureed food. I am not looking forward to my last three days of work. My boss is not very happy with me going out on medical leave but I have to come first. There are many jobs out there but you only get one life. I guess she might actually have to work. I think it will be even tougher to deal with her on clears! -
My Surgey date is September 3rd I am nervous but ready
