    NSV shout outs

Great job everyone. This thread is by far my most favorite. I am only down 38 lbs (out of 100) but have a few to share: 1. Being able to cross my legs under my desk at work 2. Being able to tie my shoes by looking over my knee instead of moving my leg to the outside of my chest 3. Being able to feel my hip bones 4. Starting to see a glimmer of my collar bones. I can't WAIT until they are protruding :L-) - kidding - just can't wait until they are defined. G

    Post Op Diet HELP!

All I do is make sure I get 70 grams of protein a day, and keep it under or around 600 calories....that's all. You'll find that getting the 70 grams of protein will fill you up and not leave room for much else. I drink the Protein Drinks from Costco (white packaging) that have 160 calories and 30 grams of protein....and after that whatever proteins can get me to 70 grams a day. Good luck!
  6. I went shopping last night for the first time since losing 30 pounds. For the first time in 10 years I could buy what I liked, and not just what fit. For the last 10 years I have been buying clothes if they fit (which was hardly ever), not if I like them....because if they fit, I LIKED THEM!!! I am also out of big girl clothes - officially can shop in the regular women's department - which as you may know increases the possibilities immensly. I am so glad I did this for myself...I just can't say enough about how great I feel. :confused1:

    New Addiction?

My house too, is experiencing the cleaning phenomenon. I have cleaned out closets, clothes, under sinks, cabinets, you name it. I refolded my entier linen closet last weekend. WHO am I? LOL.

  10. In the hours after surgery, you're on moraphine in and out of consciousness...the day after you're feeling a bit less tired, but your stomach muscles will hurt. I never actually felt my stomach (the organ) but the muscles they cut through to complete the surgery. In the week after surgery, I felt a gurgling (and heard it to) after/during drinking. I pictured it as a funnel, and the liquid trying to go into a smaller opening...it makes you feel like you want to burp - sometimes you can (a little) but mostly I coud not. The second week after surgery, I was just concerned about getting my scars healed. In retrospect, I should have asked for sutures (stitches). The glue didn't hold up very well on me and I had to go back to my PCP to get my main incision taped closed. It was pretty gross. It healed fine, but stitches would be my preference if I had to do it all over again. A lot of people on this board had a hard time getting all their Protein in the first weeks after surgery. I never had that problem...I made it simple with one supplement being 30 grams protein and two at 15 throughout the day. You have to take very small sips those first few weeks. I am at week 3 now, and on 'mushies' - cottage cheese is kinda hard to get down - yogurt works (fat free, sugar free), and I have been eating a bunch of Soups...split pea, nothing chunky. I'll be glad when the mushies are over, as your options are still kinda limited. while in the mushie phase, I still take 60 gr of protein via supplements becuase there's no way I could stuff down 70-grams of protein via food. The most I can eat of cottage cheese right now is about 3 oz. I do miss eating, I'm not going to lie. The fact that I will never be able to take a bite out of a big sandwich or a bagel kinda sucks...but losing 18 pounds in 22 days gets me over that pretty fast Good luck, I hope this helps. G
  11. I was sleeved in San Francisco by Dr. Cirangle. I am a little older than you (early 30s) and am envious that you can make such a significant improvment to your health so early on in life! My sleeve was $17k, I was a cash pay patient. I took a loan out to cover it, and luckily it had a low interest rate (3.2%). I am so glad I had this surgery. I have only lost 18 pounds so far (though it has only been three weeks). I would highly recommend Dr. Cirangle - the procedure and recovery time was slightly more uncomfortable than dental work. (really). Good luck!

    September Sleevers!

Vonnie - I had mine on 09/09 and i hate to say it was a breeze, but I have had more discomfort and pain with dental work. Seriously. SO GLAD I did this. I ate today for the first time (real food -mushies) and I can currently eat about 1/20th of what I used to. AMAZING. Can't wait to hear from LAN2K!!!

    Ist Day Out

My stomach too, gurgled after every sip, and I felt a tightness after every sip. I am 7 days out and it has definitely improved. It actually improves everyday. My big wow today was that I had 4 oz. of the high protein tomato soup and it took me 45 minutes to finish 5 oz....I was SO FULL. Congrats on getting through the hard part. The other thing I would recommend (as a patient, of course, not as a doctor) is the sooner you can get off the pain meds, the faster you'll feel back to your normal (mentally) self again. GOOD LUCK!!!
  14. Hi - I am 1 week post op, and have lost 14 lbs. I have so much energy right now that I have insomnia....has anyone else experienced this? If so, what are your remedies/changes in your eating schedule worked for you? I knew I would have more energy, but didn't think it would be this soon...don't get me wrong, it is great, but not at 2am. Thanks- G VSG 09-09-09 - Dr. Cirangle San Francisco 237/223/137
