Liquid Preop and calories
I tend to pay more attention to protein and sodium intake myself. I want to make sure that im not malnourished nor getting in too much sodium. Thanks for responding.

Liquid Preop and calories
Actually, i have only been making sure to get my 80-90 g of Protein in as well. I also watch the sodium content with broths because it can add up fast. One broth is usually around at least 600 mg of sodium which is alot if you are hypertensive or prone to retaining fluids (if you consume more than 2 or so per day). Anyway, I would love to keep in touch with you. I will email you at your email address and give you my information. This is Day 2 of my liquid diet- I guess every surgeon is different, I was told to avoid Ensure, who knows, I guess its surgeons preference, I dont really know the reason. I am actually to my surprise VERY energetic! LOL I dont know what....my stomach does not rumble much but I think the key is, I have been drinking those isopure 40g, 0 gram drinks and it has really been making me feel somewhat satisifed. My meal yesterday went something like this: 1st: isopure drink- 160 calories 2nd: broth: 10 calories 3rd: 4 sf jello- 40 calories 4th: isopure drink- 160 calories 5th: broth: 10 calories 6th: 4 sf popsiclaes: 40 calories lots and lots of Water and crystal lite in between times. SO I guess that is not too bad and actually today, my thighs feel slimmer. LOL, maybe its because I have been urinating all day (TMI) I know. Thanks for responding, we will keep in touch!:sad0:

Scared of Failure.
First of all welcome to VST I have not been sleeved yet, however, those fears are normal. But just think about it, getting the VSG is suppose to help decease the ghrelin hormone that produces hunger, some people report little or no appetite. That in itself, is a major plus. Also, it significantly reduces the size of your stomach limiting its capacity. So those two factors are very good! I think as long as we are determined to do well and we work our tool, we will be fine!:biggrin0: Although, it will still be a challenge, we will have a little helper to get us through the tough times. Take Care

Liquid Preop and calories
Hi all, Another preop question...... I am on the liquid diet and I am looking at my instructions. Just wondering, is there a certain amt of calories that I need to consume or not go over? I dont see that on my list. Just wondering, if anyone else had any specific answers regarding this. It does tell me what I can consume in any quantities (sf beverages, broths, etc) and it tells me what to limit such as no more than 2 shakes, etc. Any suggestions..... P.S. I am actually surprised that im not extremely hungry. The Isopure Protein drink is really helping and it has 40g of protein and 0 grams of carbs....so i think that is helping me to feel "somewhat satisfied".

Surgery date getting closer!
Sounds good, Ive heard alot about EAS protein shakes, I will probably buy those. This pre-op diet is KILLING:cursing: me though and I feel as IF I am loosing my best friend "food". Its sad, you dont realize how much you depend/rely on something until you feel that its about to be taken away. I had a MANY food funerals prior to starting this diet but I just decided to do it early, I was eating too much. LOL But I wouldnt dare cheat on this preop diet, I am a nurse and I KNOW the consequences....so I just have to suffer through this..... Thanks for your post op shopping ideas...

Surgery date getting closer!
Hi all, Its been awhile since I posted. It is less than 2 weeks before I go for my VSG. I am very excited and VERY nervous. Of course, I am thinking about all the what-ifs, etc. However, I do realize that this procedure is neccessary for me to become healthier and reach my goal weight. Also, I have decided to have my VSG performed in Houston by Dr. Alanis instead of traveling to MX. After thinking about it further, I just felt more comfortable being in my own backyard (I do hate the fact that I will not get the 3 nights in the hospital and the vacation getaway that I was planning). Anyway, the important thing is that I am still getting the VSG!:glare: Yesterday, my aunt was showing some family photos and we ran across one of me when I was over 300 lbs. I thought, WOW, this is motivation in itself (Thankfully, I dont weigh that much now) but it just reminded me of how I use to be and what I could potentially turn into again. Anyway, I NEED you all to send me some positivity regarding my BIG day coming up. My surgeons office told me that I can have it sooner if I wanted, which I might do as I am already on the preop diet (I start earlier than prescribed). I have a questions 1. Do you all suggest that I purchase all my post op Protein supplements now? If so, which kind do you recommend? 2. Or what do you recommend for post op grocery shopping, any particular items that you all felt was helpful? Thanks a million, I will keep you all posted on my progress.... Soon to be sleeved.....:thumbup1:

I think I had a gallbladder attack!
My mom had a gallbladder attack about a year ago. She said that pain was very severe, so severe, they thought she was having a heart attack. They told her that she will need to have it removed but she has not had any more severe attacks, therefore, she "isnt that bothered" by it. However, over time, it could lead to serious problems. For now, avoid greasy, high fat foods (which im sure, you already are) since you are post op VSG. My mom, has lead a relatively healthy diet since and has not had any more problems.

Yay my appeal was approved

RNY now VSG?
Good 4 You. I cant wait to be a sleeve sister!
-
hello! For those of you who had surgery in mexico how did you................
Welcome Ryansgirl, I have gone through the same fears with telling people. After awhile, my lightbulb went off and something just said, "Its my body, its my life, I know whats best for me, no one else does." People think that im nuts for having this surgery because they feel that Im not "big" enough, etc. LOL I know me and I have struggled with my weight my entire life. I am just going to take GOD with me in the OR and take it from there. People will judge us regardless, so I say just do you and worry about telling people when you feel comfortable. As long as your significant other is supportive, that is all you need. Good Luck

Some Aceves Questions
Hello, I got his information from one of the websites, I think it was obesity help. com. Anyway, I cant remember his exact website at this time, im sure some of the other patients can answer that. I called his patient coordinator and expressed an interest. I filled out medical history forms, etc. She contacted me in 2-3 days after Dr. Aceves had reviewed my past history and current co morbidities. From your history alone, he approves the surgery. In actuality, its not that different from how it would go if I had the surgery at home. I spoke with the doctor in person, he reviewed my history, he gave me a verbal approval and I would get my blood work done a week prior to surgery. With Dr Aceves you get labwork done the day before. I asked Dr A's patient coordinator, if there were any cases that they were not able to do a surgery and I was told that it has only happened once or twice and those persons were not truthful when filling out their medical history forms. For example, if you are severely anemic or have leukopenia etc. Of course they probably would not take the chance in performing surgery on you. But of course, you would most likely know if you had a condition like this prior to surgery (extreme fatigue, etc). Since I am going to Mexico, in a few weeks I am going to let me PCP do a head to toe physical on me with labs, so that I can feel comfortable that nothing has come up prior to surgery, thats just me though. Good luck with your weight loss....

RNY now VSG?
I went through the same thing. I have not had a sleeve yet but I will in about a month. I initially looked into the more popular surgeries RNY or Lapband however, I had an intestinal repair surgery @ 9mos old so the doctor told me that I may have too much scar tissue to perform the RNY. Therefore,I started looking into the sleeve. From what I have read about VSG it seems to produce similiar results to RNY, but the surgery is less drastic. Ive also been told that the weight lost with the sleeve is "slower" than RNY but the sleeve patients catch up with RNY patients in the end. Of course, "Slower" doesnt mean that its "slow", I guess compared to some very drastic weight loss with RNY in the beginning. From my research and experience (im a nurse), ive learned that RNY patients have stalls and plateaus as well. So everyones body and weight loss experience is different. It just depends on how much you have to loose, etc. People who have lower BMIs may have a slower weight loss than a person with a BMI that is higher. For example, when I weighed 300 lbs, I lost the first 75 lbs very quickly (in 6 mos) but the other 25 lbs took 6 mos. Thats just how the body works. Its not bad. Im saying all of that to say, either surgery will give you the results that you are looking for, if you comply with the post op rules. Also, good luck with your surgery and weight loss.:clap2:

Okay, sounds fair enough.
