    I think I had a gallbladder attack!

My mom had a gallbladder attack about a year ago. She said that pain was very severe, so severe, they thought she was having a heart attack. They told her that she will need to have it removed but she has not had any more severe attacks, therefore, she "isnt that bothered" by it. However, over time, it could lead to serious problems. For now, avoid greasy, high fat foods (which im sure, you already are) since you are post op VSG. My mom, has lead a relatively healthy diet since and has not had any more problems.

    RNY now VSG?

Good 4 You. I cant wait to be a sleeve sister!
  5. Welcome Ryansgirl, I have gone through the same fears with telling people. After awhile, my lightbulb went off and something just said, "Its my body, its my life, I know whats best for me, no one else does." People think that im nuts for having this surgery because they feel that Im not "big" enough, etc. LOL I know me and I have struggled with my weight my entire life. I am just going to take GOD with me in the OR and take it from there. People will judge us regardless, so I say just do you and worry about telling people when you feel comfortable. As long as your significant other is supportive, that is all you need. Good Luck

    Some Aceves Questions

Hello, I got his information from one of the websites, I think it was obesity help. com. Anyway, I cant remember his exact website at this time, im sure some of the other patients can answer that. I called his patient coordinator and expressed an interest. I filled out medical history forms, etc. She contacted me in 2-3 days after Dr. Aceves had reviewed my past history and current co morbidities. From your history alone, he approves the surgery. In actuality, its not that different from how it would go if I had the surgery at home. I spoke with the doctor in person, he reviewed my history, he gave me a verbal approval and I would get my blood work done a week prior to surgery. With Dr Aceves you get labwork done the day before. I asked Dr A's patient coordinator, if there were any cases that they were not able to do a surgery and I was told that it has only happened once or twice and those persons were not truthful when filling out their medical history forms. For example, if you are severely anemic or have leukopenia etc. Of course they probably would not take the chance in performing surgery on you. But of course, you would most likely know if you had a condition like this prior to surgery (extreme fatigue, etc). Since I am going to Mexico, in a few weeks I am going to let me PCP do a head to toe physical on me with labs, so that I can feel comfortable that nothing has come up prior to surgery, thats just me though. Good luck with your weight loss....

    RNY now VSG?

I went through the same thing. I have not had a sleeve yet but I will in about a month. I initially looked into the more popular surgeries RNY or Lapband however, I had an intestinal repair surgery @ 9mos old so the doctor told me that I may have too much scar tissue to perform the RNY. Therefore,I started looking into the sleeve. From what I have read about VSG it seems to produce similiar results to RNY, but the surgery is less drastic. Ive also been told that the weight lost with the sleeve is "slower" than RNY but the sleeve patients catch up with RNY patients in the end. Of course, "Slower" doesnt mean that its "slow", I guess compared to some very drastic weight loss with RNY in the beginning. From my research and experience (im a nurse), ive learned that RNY patients have stalls and plateaus as well. So everyones body and weight loss experience is different. It just depends on how much you have to loose, etc. People who have lower BMIs may have a slower weight loss than a person with a BMI that is higher. For example, when I weighed 300 lbs, I lost the first 75 lbs very quickly (in 6 mos) but the other 25 lbs took 6 mos. Thats just how the body works. Its not bad. Im saying all of that to say, either surgery will give you the results that you are looking for, if you comply with the post op rules. Also, good luck with your surgery and weight loss.:clap2:

  13. Hello everyone, I am scheduled to have my sleeve in September with Dr. Aceves. I have read that most people are different in taking time off, depending on how they feel, etc. I have taken 2 weeks of vacation off from my job, however I have short term disability insurance and they told me that if the doctor says I need more time off, etc that I will be paid for up to a year. (This is good to know, god forbid if any complications happen, etc.) What I wanted to know is, if you werent in a rush to return to work, what reasonable amount of time do you think would be appropriate to take off. I am thinking more along the lines of 4 weeks to allow my body to heal, learn how to eat, etc. Also, for those of you that used Dr. Aceves, do you all think that he would sign my form for me to get 4 weeks off? Im not trying to abuse time off but I work as a nurse and I also work long days and the demands of the job can be very challenging, I just dont want to push myself (especially since my job understands that I am having some type of surgery, they wont fire me or anything like that--of course they cant anyway but im just curious to get some responses. Thanks a million everyone

    Time off After Sleeve Surgery

Thanks for answering my question. I figure I might as well, I dont really have a reason to rush back, I mean this is a medically neccessary procedure so I dont see why it should be treated any different than any other type of procedure:001_smile: After all, I deserve it! I think I am going to take the 4 weeks off and be happy with it. After all, I cant take care of patients until I take care of myself first. How is your journey going VAngel, is it getting easier for you?

Good luck with your surgery, I pray that it is uneventful and that you will loose all the weight you want and bring out the "sexiness" that you desire! LOL. Seriously, I will in your shoes in a few months and I am nervous but as i am in my 20s as well and I am currently engaged, I cannot continue to live like this. I know that this is the right decision, if I could do it on my own kept my weight off a long time ago. I mean, who doesnt want to be thin for prom? LOL Take Care & Keep us posted
  23. Good luck with your surgery and keep us updated on your progress. I wish you an "uneventful" surgery that will lead to 71 lbs of weight loss.

    i am really doing this

Girl, I totally understand where you are coming from! I keep having the same thoughts, its really annoying because I know this is what I need to do but I cannot help having the what if thoughts. I mean my biggest things is my health and second to that, I just really want to feel more confident in my clothes, etc. I want to be the confident women that I know can be. I have prayed about this as well and I believe that this is the right thing to do.
