I was planning Gastric Bypass all the way. Had done almost all my appointments when I went to the seminar and changed to the sleeve. I liked not rerouting my intestines. I didn't really understand what the sleeve was before, and once I did the research I knew that I had changed my mind. I had surgery three months ago and still happy with my decision. 52 lbs down.

    Want to eat so bad....

Water and milk both nauseated me. My doctor put me on Gatorade, juice, and ginger ale ... He said we had to do whatever it took to keep me out of the ER. Call your doctor. Fluids are more important than protein at this point. I was also put on protonix long term, I quit taking when I was nauseous and the acid was apparently the biggest problem.

    Gained Weight? Anyone?

I know I am doing well, not eating much... I don't even process a gain. Pretty much pretend it didn't happen. Forget it...
  4. I had surgery on Wed, was released on Fri. My husband had to go back to work on Mon. I knew I could call my mother if I needed anything. (She lives close).. My biggest thing was getting up to get my teenager out the door to school. I took the pain meds for about 10 days, didn't think I would need them... But I did. If I missed a dose, I was miserable - I just decided to take the meds and rest. I had my hubby sit on the toilet while I showered - just in case... I didn't need help, but I was light headed and felt better knowing he was there... The first few showers. I didn't drive til after the first 10 days and I had to take my daughter to get her license and waited over an hour... I was uncomfortable, not really in pain, just uncomfortable. I didn't leave the house for another week. I enjoyed when my hubby was home - he would wait on me. I was just fine when he was gone.

How do you know if its dumping or a virus?

I had bad diarrhea for weeks... It was mostly stomach acid. Started taking the protonix again and it went away. This was a stomach acid issue for me.

    To all veterans...

Almost a year ago I had dinner with an old friend that I used to work with. She had lost her job after 16 years and was depressed and told me over the phone she had gained 150 lbs. she was probably 250 or higher the last time I saw her. I wasn't prepared... She could hardly walk... And was probably 450 or higher... She was in the position of not being able to get a job and had back problems and was trying to get disability. After that night I worried for her, feeling like she would end up bedridden... I also worried for myself... When I retire will I get bigger and bigger? Will I be able to walk? My feet were constantly hurting, I was already having problems. I took my friend to lunch a few months later and she couldn't wear a seatbelt and couldn't step up on a curb, we had to find a restaurant without one.... Reconnecting with her lead to my decision to have the surgery. I called her before, but didn't tell her. I wanted to tell her face to face. I was going to see her while I was on leave, but time flew by and I was back to work... She had a heart attack and died in her sleep 2 days before Thanksgiving. She was 38 years old, married, with a 10 year old daughter. Her death has devastated me. I will be an example and advocate for WLS.

    Nausea After 2 Months

My doctor said that Water is the worst beverage when nauseaus, it can make you nauseaus, then milk closely follows. The nurse told me to let it sit for awhile, but I had to get fluids in or I was going to end up dehydrated and in the hospital. I probably drink a cup a day. I still have my own rule about no carbonated beverages, except diet ginger ale... if I'm nauseas. The NUT and doctor both say it nausea is common for the first couple of months.

    Nausea After 2 Months

I've also had nausea since week 3, at the same time i started missing the protonilx. Dr said drink regular Gatorade, juice and ginger ale. I got better til week 6, nausea returned. I woke up with it and it would get better during the day. Started back the protonix and so far no more nausea, been about 5 days. Nausea is common, and an acid reducer can help.

Nausea & Vomiting 2 Weeks Post Op

I had bad nausea in week 3. Called the dr and his nurse pit me on regular Gatorade, and ginger ale. I was worried I was going to get dehydrated. This is pretty common I'm told. The nausea came back in week 6, and I had stopped protonix, so I started taking it again and doing better. If they don't refill my prescription, I'll just get over the counter... I'm convinced it is the stomach acid.

    Annoyed

I've gotten hives from bee pollen in vitamins (gnc brand has bee pollen) and bee pollen in mascara. Just figured I'd throw that out there in case you started new vitamins or new mascara.

    Need Advice

There have been a few people on here with ongoing problems after the sleeve, and the doctors want to revise to rny. I went in wanting rny and changed to the sleeve. But I remember there was a guy at the seminar fixing to start kidney dialysis that wanted the sleeve and the surgeon said in his case... It had to be rny. Do some research and maybe see another surgeon, but the surgeon probably knows what is best.

Has This Happened To Anyone Else?

I had cellulitis after I had a c-section years ago, it popped up like the size of an egg near where the IV was, it is an infection of fatty tissue. It was hot and I was running a fever... Had to be treated with antibotics. See a doctor and get it checked out.

    When Does This Get Better?

I had nausea bad, and my doctors nurse sai to go for regular Gatorade and diet ginger ale. She said water and milk cause nausea. They put me on fenegran and added the drinks and within 24 hrs I was better. Call your doctors office and see if you can add Gatorade. She said we had to forget the rules and gets hydrated... And let the ginger ale go flat.
  14. I honestly believe if most people were as active and healthy as he is and had not dieted and screwed up their metabolisms over the years that they could eat what they wanted. I think we live in a sedentary society where everything is supersized... and it works against us in the long run.

When Did You Go Back To Work?

Five weeks, wish I had waited six, although I eased in taking off days on between work days. I delver mail and have to lift heavy.

    Anyone Not Lose Weight?

I came home from the hospital 12 lbs heavier! It is very normal, after being pumped full of fluids. It was 10 days before I started dropping the excess, and I started losing 2-3 lbs a day... Until week 3, I had lost 13 lbs and hut the stall.
  17. My husband wears a size 29 pants, weighs 140 or less and eats more than any other human I've ever seen. He adds butter to everything! He eats either a plate of Peanut Butter Cookies, and a couple of glasses of milk or apple pie and ice cream almost every night. Not all skinny people diet. Some have an incredible metabolism. He always orders an appetizer, and rarely is there anything for a to go box. My opinion is that I dieted myself fat, gaining 10-20 after every loss and rebound. I screwed up my metabolism so I have to eat really small potions and or gain. I would follow a diet for 3-6 months, sometimes longer and then go on a binge...I've dieted more of my life than not... Didn't make me skinny I wanted to add my husband does and always has work a physical job (but so do I), and he is healthy... No issues except back and shoulder pain from working. He hardly ever gets a cold, and never takes time off work for being sick. He's 48 years old. He does not work out. He's foot good genes, everyone in his family is thin and both parents are still living.

    Iv Soreness After Surgery

When I was in the hospital my IV pulled partially out (was still in my hand), there was blood all over my hand, and my hand was swelled up like a baseball. I apparently pulled it when walking. They had to give me another IV of course, and told me if may take 4-7 days to go all the way down. I think it was totally normal about day 6.
  19. If she goes to the restroom, get rid of part of it. Have your fiancée sneak bites when she isn't looking!

I Dont Think My Nut Believes In Me

My NUT is awesome and impressed that I bring a journal in. She's just made recommendations, and been sweet. I would see about changing to someone else if that is an option.
  21. No divorce in the sleeve world... Stomachs are forever gone! Till death do us part...
  22. What day did the scale go down after surgery???? Im 6 days out, and diet has been perfect, no cheating. I'm still 10 pounds heavier than when I went into the hospital. I just want to see how long is normal.

  24. I submitted fmla papers because I was worried about attitude from management. Everyone has been fine, but if something happens I have 12 weeks that they cannot mess with me.
