  1. I think a size 8 would be amazing. I am a woman's 12 now down from a 20.
  2. A friend of mine who had the sleeve and looks absolutely amazing told me this when I shared I had the band. She said you hesitate to share with people because they are waiting to see you fail and if you don't lose weight as quickly or you lose it too quickly or gain some back the haters are in the wings waiting to say I told you so. I had told some people but not the work people. They don't need to know.
  3. I would say a myriad of things contributed to my weight gain. I had a volatile childhood of uncertainty because my parents were making up and breaking up for my young years with a lot of verbal and some physical abuse. I suffered terrible emotional abuse and guilt to choose a side. As a teen I had a drug problem and was very thin. Once I stopped using drugs I substituted with food. I also gained weight as a form of protection against men so that they would leave me alone and not require anything from me. I also have hypothyroidism and gained 70 pounds with my first pregnancy. The rest I chalk up to pure laziness. I know I feel much better when I weigh less and exercise but don't always feel like. I am so grateful to my band because now it truly limits my food intake and I have to assess what makes me want to overeat.

    18 days Post Op

How many calories are we supposed to have? I suppose it is different for everyone but I know that I have read before that a person who is eating too few calories can stall weight loss. I wonder if that could be why no weight loss? I don't know though. 18 days post op you are still healing and are most likely still swollen. I know the weight is coming off slower than I originally envisioned and it was only this week at work that people noticed I am losing weight at all and I was banded January 6 but I am happy I am losing. Every pound down is a win. You will get there! Good luck!

    18 days Post Op

I am sure you aren't doing anything wrong. You are most likely still swollen and cannot tolerate much yet. Soup was my best friend for the first few weeks and still occasionally. Talk to your doctor if you are concerned about the eating. As far as the weight coming off...have you incorporated any exercise in? Walking perhaps? Lots of water and walking help tremendously. Hope this helps. Best of luck to you I am sure you will do great!

    Could use some help

Every day is different for me. I was banded on jan 6 and some days I am not hungry at all while other days I am ravenous. I am stuck at 213 startin weight 239. I hav only had one fill and will see my doc nect tuesday for another one. I have been exercising but the weight isn't coming off as quickly as I would like. I would like 2-3 pounds a week but cannot get passed 212/213 for some reason. I know I should probably eat less but I haven't had any bread, rice, pasta, or sweets since the surgery. I drink a protein shake for breakfast and lunch and dinner vary. I know I need more protein though. Help! I am not liking bandster hell.

    trying my hardest..

I am happy to hear this too I don't go in for another fill until April and I cannot shake any more weight. I have been walking about 4-5 times per week but I know I need to increase my protein. That changes today. Thanks!

    thyroid issue. ugh!

I take 112 mcg synthroid and have hashimoto. I had half my thyroid removed in 2005 but this is the first I am hearing about foods to stay away from. (Except soy I knew about that). What other foods slow down weight loss for thyroid patients? Thanks for the info!
  11. 8 weeks and 27 pounds down. The last few weeks have been slow for me

    TMI warning

Same here. I take a stool softener once or twice a week.
  13. Okay so I was banded on January 6 no pre-op diet required for my surgeon. The first three weeks after banding I lost 24 pounds but wasn't very hungry. I was still swollen and terrified of getting anything stuck. I went at the 4 week post op to the doctor expecting to get a fill and hoping for one because week 4 BAM my appetite returned with a vengeance and I did not want to gain back any of the weight. I felt so much more hungry although not nearly as hungry as before the surgery. I was disappointed when I went to the doc and he wouldn't give me a fill because my port was still sore. I just went back on the 18th and had my fill. The past 3 weeks I should point out I didn't lose an ounce. So when the doctor said I would feel much more full after the fill I felt encouraged only i feel the same. I read about carb cycling and have started to give it a try and have lost two more pounds. Every pound down in my opinion is a small victory. I pretty much eat what I want but will say this. I don't eat any rice, white bread, or Pasta. I don't think I ever will again and I am okay with that. I do eat potatoes, my doctor is aware and I will never give them up! I do eat Protein first and stick to Protein shakes for Breakfast but I eat crackers, (cheez its and wheat thins reduced fat), lots of Soup, chili, and have managed to get some lettuce down. I think the drinking is harder for me. I miss soda and know I will never have it again. . That is rough for me. But thankfully I do like Water and crystal light. I also started walking again again this week because it was possible (lots of snow here this winter) and that really helps me get the pounds off. I am thinking of this as not a diet but a lifestyle and it would be unrealistic to not have some of the things you like to eat but making better choices leads top empowerment and eventually I don't miss the sugar. Good luck to everyone this is a forever journey and we are all human, some days are easier than others but we all can do this!
  14. Honestly, I don't feel any different. I am on clear liquids for the rest of the night and tomorrow full liquids then Dr. said I can progress at my own pace. I am not hungry right now so I have only had a few sips of sugar free hot apple cider. I asked the doctor though if I will feel a difference when I go to eat and he said I most assuredly would so I am looking forward to that. He said if I have lost at least 6 pounds by my next visit in 6 weeks I would not need a fill. I am hopeful to have lost 18 pounds by then!
  15. I goty first fill today. The darn needle hurt but I am excited to see if there is a difference in the next few days. He filled it to 4cc. Anyone who has had a fill so far how much have you lost after the fill? I know we are all different but it motivates me to hear of everyone else's losses!
  16. Yeah I know they say the slower you lose the more likely it is to keep it off and I am trying to keep that in mind but I would really like to lose another 20 by mid April. Is that realistic?? Thats when we go on vacation and I will have to put a swim suit on.
  17. 30 pounds is fantastic congrats! I have hit a stand still. I went to the doctor today and he was going to give me my first fill but my port is still sore from healing so he said to come back next week and he will give me a fill. He was happy with my loss so far but I will be happy when the scale starts going down again.
  18. This New Jersey snow is really getting in the way of my walking! I don't like it.
  19. Congrats memebear!! Glad to hear you are doing well
  20. I am very happy I go in for a fill on Friday because my appetite has seemed to return not like before but it scares me and I don't want to regain the 24 pounds I lost post op. I have read this is referred to as bandster hell. Has anyone else heard this before?
  21. So today we had my son's birthday party and I didn't even care about the cake! It was pretty awesome. Although I will say everyone was drinking soda and I do miss that but I know it is a big No No. So what does everyone drink besides water? I do drink crystal light sometimes but honestly am not a fan of the artificial sweeteners. Suggestions??
  22. I went back to work after one week but I have a desk job. I walk sometimes on my breaks at work but it is so darn cold in Jersey that I haven't been walking as much as I would like. I will say this though I feel much more comfortable standing and walking around than I do sitting. And good news one of my co workers said she can tell i am losing weight. This is awesome because I didn't tell anyone at work I had surgery! I go next week to see the doc and will get my first fill. Excited!!!
  23. I was given 5 incisions...I have no idea if one has to do with my hernia repair or not....thought 5nwas standard...
  24. Question: I was banded on January 6. So far so good. Losing weight, walking, feeling pretty good until a few days ago I started getting these pains in both side around the rib area also around incision area. Whether I sit or stand they come and go. Any idea what this could be? I appreciate the insight.
