the band will work for you as long as you keep in mind that you can't eat like you used to. you will have a pouch that will hold 4-6 oz of food. it is small. if you don't follow the eating rules you might suffer some complications. I have suffered from some complications but because I followed my doctors advise and became very compliant my complications are correcting themselves. so my best advice to you is to follow all directions given to you. eat small, chew thoroughly, and keep your portions in check. also eat slowly. we all eat to fast. it is a hard habit to break. so I suggest putting your fork or spoon down in between bites. a half of cup of food should take you about 20 min's to eat. if you follow the eating rules you will lose wt. and won't have complications. I wish you luck. if I had to do it all over again even with my complications I would have the band again. I can't eat around a properly adjusted band.

How many calories are you eating? You might consider upping them if you are on the low end of things. By two months out my nutritionist said I should be getting in between 800 and 1200 calories a day. For me, I lose more consistently when I am between 1000 and 1200, especially on days I am exercising. But this is what works for me. You need to experiment and see what works for you. Sadly, there is no one formula that is universal!

As long as folks understand that it's a lifestyle change that will have it's ups and downs, you can call it a journey, an adventure, or a process. I think they're pretty interchangeable....

Try a heating pad to your shoulder. it should help. or stand in the shower with hot Water massaging the area. bandster hell is rough. keep strong because after each fill you get you will have to go on a liquid diet for a few days and than mushies for a few days.

sometimes it's so loud my dogs even perk their ears up at the noise. drinking Water helps to keep the loud sounds away. or just a bite of food.

Since yesterday I have been super hungry. I found out my band is empty and the swelling must have subsided so now I am starving pretty frequently. Tomorrow I can start mushy food so I'm trying to hold on for one more day until I can start to have something more substantial. Ugh!
Also for some reason on day 7 post op my shoulder pain is so bad it is keeping me up at night. And I'm walking my soon to be small butt off!
My little pity party is over. Thank you for listening.

I am bipolar. my psychiatrists gave his 2 thumbs up about me having surgery. He knew if I lost wt. I would be a happier me and therefore make better decisions for myself. we have a bit more of a battle because of the depression side of our disease. it wants to be fed. but to say you would not be successful is so wrong. I am so sorry you are having all this trouble. I think my first trip would be to my pcp. and start the approval process all over again. and keep this thread so you can hand it to them that refuse you so they can read the truth from real ppl instead of their book policies. good luck.

I agree with 2much. whenever something different happens it's best to go on a liquid diet until you are sure you are not swollen. I would in your case call your doctor and let them know what happened. they may want to see you are wait 72 hours to see if everything settles down. if the pain increases or you began to vomit again you need to get yourself to the er. and go to the er your doctor practices out of. a lot of er's don't know what to do with a banded person. good luck

I guess I was an emotional eater, or something similar.
All I know was I could not stop eating, 24/7.....
The lap band cured me of that...pure and simple!!! granted, it wasn't easy, and I read here all the time where people back down from accepting change. (only to complain later they are failing, falling off the wagon, etc)
I never understood when people say they had to loose weight prior to surgery to prove they can do it...the fact that I could not do it was exactly the reason surgery was my last resort....
I had to do a 6 month medically supervised diet program, mandated by my insurance...I asked the staff at the bariatric center why....I was told I had to prove to the insurance co. that I did sincerely attempt loosing weight the traditional way, and FAILED!
I told them all about every diet program I have ever been on, and failed at every one of them.
I was told simply saying so was only my word. They wanted something official, with charts, graphs, weekly visits and counseling, all documented and signed off by a MD....and put into my file.
So I did, and just like every other diet, I started out good, positive results, then about month 4 I started to cheat, and then by month 6 it was all a bust......but that was exactly what the insurance co.wanted to see......without directly saying so.
But yet I read here all the time that people have to "Loose" weight in order to qualify.....I guess the thinking is that a Dr. will not tell you to do it and not take it seriously, they want you to give it your best effort and let thee truth stand out....
Bottom line, you do have to follow your dr's directions....

you had dry chicken. you will find that leftovers aren't usually tolerated well. in your situation I would have added some broth to that chicken and than blended. my suggestion is to drink some Water. you sound like you are getting dehydrated. you should be drinking 2 quarts at minimum a day. and never go without eating. at your stage Soup, Protein drinks, mushed up Protein of any kind. I use a emulsefer. and with every fill you will need to go through the liquid and mushy stages over and over again and you need to figure out how to eat. i'm guessing that your band is not filled right now. so mushy food should be able to slip right through. eggs, pureed vegetables, cottage cheese, yogurt, or whatever you like you just need to put some broth in it and blend it until it is soft. but for now drink some liquids and see if that helps. your pouch will digest just like your big stomach since it is just your stomach pulled up to be a pouch. I wish you luck. but please see to your diet.

All of us are emotional eaters, how do you think we got to the point of needing surgery?? My doctor's office taught me that and they give you the tool of the surgery along with tools to deal with emotional eating. We won't ever be cured but if we can control it most of the time, then we'll be a success story. As my psych put it, everyone is an emotional eater. It starts in infancy when mom holds the baby while feeding it.
And if we could all "lose the weight" we wouldn't need surgery. I completely understand you feeling defeated and giving up. I've done that so many times. I would find another way. Someone mentioned Mexico and that sounds like something to check out. If this is something you want, don't give up.
