I have only been banded for a month now and my whole outlook on food has changed. I am looking at food as fuel for my body. I don't need to eat to comfort me. I would not have been able to change my eating habits if I didn't have this band. I love it.I had no complications from my surgery. I was banded on Thurs and back to work on Monday. I never needed any pain medication. I made sure I walked alot to keep me from getting gas pains. I am very strict at following my Drs orders. I have had no PB. I have never had anything come back up. I am commited to making this work. As far as looking at other obese people now. I would like to tell them how easy this procedure was. I was scared for no reason. I have never been able to lose weight like this and be in control of my eating. I would do this again in a minute. This may not be for everyone, but it has sure given me a new start at a healthy life.

If you are worried about going to Mexico for fills, check out fill centers usa, their is a link on his web site. Maybe there is one close to you. My whole experience was great with Dr Ortiz. I was so nervous and scared to go to Mexico, but I checked a dr in my area and they wanted 18500.00 for the surgery and they were trained by DR Ortiz, for me, as I was self pay, it was why pay so much more for someone with less experience. As soon as I got to Mexico and started meeting everyone at the OCC, I was sure I had made the right decision. Good luck with your surgery. mema

I had surgery on March 22, I am down 21 lbs. I wont get a fill until 6 weeks after surgery. I have heard that you will lose some in the first weeks but this is really a healing time. I hear you really start losing after your first fill. I am really trying to watch what I eat until then but it is hard. I am getting hungry sometimes. I have started walking too. It sound like you are doing fine. Good luck let me know how you are doing. mema

Thanks for the advise, I was more thinking like its a small world and rides like that. I am taking my young grandson and you are right I can do the other rides next year when I am thinner. Yea!

I was banded March 22, I am going to Disneyland this weekend. Does anyone know if you can ride any rides so soon after surgery?

Janine, I paid 8500.00 that covered everything. I live in California, so I drove. Airfare would be additional, if you have to fly in but they pick you up at the airport. Glad to answer any questions you have. I can't say enough about how great they were, everyone was so nice and it was a really nice hospital. mema

Welcome! I have been trying to lose weight for so long and nothing worked. I had my first grandson a year ago. I had such a hard time getting down on the floor to play with him and then trying to get back up. I also, like you decided I wanted to be around to watch him grow up. He is alot of the resaon I decided to have the lapband put on. I live in Southern California and my insurance turned me down. I had no high blood pressure, diabeties or problems that come with being overweight. I figured it was just a matter of time before I did. I made the choice to go to Mexico to have Dr Ortiz do the surgery.He was wonderful, everyone there was. I absolutely have no regrets. Spent one night in the hospital, one at the hotel. I was back to work on the 4th day. Hardly any pain. I am feeling great! And I can see the weight starting to come off. I feel like I finally will be able to keep the weight off. I wish you the best. I was really scared to go to Mexico too. But I was self pay, I did a lot of checking and felt that Dr Ortiz was a good choice for my surgery. I am so glad I went. I am down 20 pounds today. mema

Caroline Dr.Ortiz and his staff were the best. He is in TJ. Have no regrets, would do it again in a second. I am from Southern California, I drove. If you fly they will pick you up at the airport. All the staff spoke English and were very nice and comforting. They were 5 other women that had surgery the same day. You get to know them, you all stay at the same hotel. If you have to go by yourself, there is still support there for you. I would recomend Dr Ortiz to anyone going to Mexico. I did alot of checking before I decided to do this I was so scared. I look back now and I really had nothing to worry about. Good luck with your surgery. mema

Hi Caroline, It has to be your decision but I can tell you I was just banded and I am so glad I did it. I have tried so many diets and nothing worked, the weight would come right back. There is a lot of support on this site and for once I feel like I am going to lose the weight and keep it off. I am so excited to start my weight loss journey. Good luck to you. Mema
