I'm totally new here, was set on the band until Tuesday when the doc said sleeve. So I dove in and read about the sleeve and found the before and after pics thread. Everyone of you are amazing! Can this even be real that I too can be healthy again, and perhaps love myself?

Did you keep your surgery a secret?
Fit2btied replied to Disabledaccount's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I haven't even told my husband at this point. I will discuss it with him once my insurance approval is in and I get a surgery date. I will probably not tell anyone else. It's my body, my life, and my decision. Everyone else will be told I had gallbladder or hernia surgery, even my kids. Will I eventually tell people? Maybe, but I really don't wan people talking about me or judging me when they aren't invested. -
November Surgery Dates
Fit2btied replied to BamaGirly37's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Depending on how quick everything goes through! I will probably be a Nov girl! I would prefer October but I'm not sure it will happen that quick. Good luck! -
I have 130 pounds to lose, 38 years old and have been overweight for 9 years.

Went for my consult today and he advised against the band and that I should go with the sleeve. He said with my other medical conditions and the amount if weight I have to lose it would be more beneficial. I've got a bad surgery and have had a 3 level spinal fusion and my bmi is 43. He doesn't see me doing well, long term, with the band. So now I do more research. Scratching my head now because all my questions were about the band and I have never thought about the sleeve. Thoughts?

PRE OP LIQUID DIET
Fit2btied replied to princesstuiaki's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What gets me about the pre op diet, and I know its necessary for some, is that if I had the will Power to not eat for 2 weeks and stick to shakes I wouldn't need the band. Lol I'll find out tomorrow what my doctor recommends. Good luck. -

How long was iT before you could drive after surgery? My life revolves around driving my kids everywhere?
-
What are you taking? I take 700-1500 mg of Vicodin for my shoulder pain. It's not daily but I have no issues driving taking it.

Out patient facility or hospital doctor
Fit2btied replied to Fit2btied's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So here is a little info on one of the surgeons I am going to see. Knowing nothing about this process, except what all of you have told me, does this sound reputable? Daniel T. Hoeltgen, M.D., F.A.C.S. Dr. Hoeltgen attended Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, Illinois. He completed his internship and residency at the University of Illinois Metropolitan Group Hospitals surgery program in Chicago. He is a cum laude graduate of Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. Dr. Hoeltgen is a diplomate of the American Board of Surgery, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a member of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery, just to name a few. He has been in private practice since 1998. Dr. Hoeltgen has a special interest in advanced laparoscopic surgery, robotic surgery and bariatric surgery. He is the only surgeon in Illinois – and one of only a handful of surgeons in the world – who performs totally robotic laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. He also has significant experience in multiple other advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgical techniques. Dr. Hoeltgen serves as a faculty member for several large laparoscopic surgery companies, teaching other fully trained surgeons advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgical procedures, including gastric bypass. Dr. Hoeltgen is a native of Chicago, and resides with his wife and twin daughters in the northwest suburbs. -
