alisadiane got a reaction from hjcj1019 in No weight loss for over a week
My surgery date was July 25 and I haven't lost anything since the week after surgery when I was still in liquids. I was getting discouraged recently and obsessive about stepping on the scale, so finally I told my boyfriend to hide the damn scale and I would weigh myself once a week starting after my first fill (not till sept 2). Don't get discouraged! We are in this stage where the band isn't able to do what it's supposed to do! I've set goals for myself that I am building great habits and behaviors for working out and exercising. I'm not focusing on any numbers except for Protein needs and good eating habits. Good luck! Don't stress about the number!!

alisadiane got a reaction from CherieRyde in Weird side effect from surgery?
I was just banded on Friday (7/25) and so far seem to be healing really well! However, I have a really strange side effect/symptom from surgery. On my right hip there is an area on the outer hip/pelvis section that is completely numb. I have no feeling, except for at night I sometimes get some nerve pain hot flashes to the area. I called and talked to my surgeons nurse who talked with my surgeon who both seemed rather baffled and had no idea what it could be. I'm relieved to find it's nothing serious, but I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced something like this?

Hi all, I was officially banded this morning! Was supposed to have a hiatal hernia repair that showed up on my upper GI, but when my surgeon got in there he said there wasn't one. So, woohoo! I am feeling sore and discomfort and I'm SOOOO thankful I've got an amazing boyfriend waiting on me hand and foot. Lots of people say discomfort on their left side but I'm feeling the most pain right in the center incision of my stomach. All in all, I am happy, loved and cared for. Thanks to everyone here for their support and words. Now the journey begins!!!

@@betchaican Thank you so much for the wisdom!! I have come to the terms that my recovery may be longer than I had anticipated, but I promised myself I wouldnt rush it.
I started my pre-op diet on Monday, and it was ROUGH on day one..but each day that passes is easier and I notice my cravings are lessening. Thank you to EVERYONE who shared their input on this thread. You have all helped alleviate some of my fears and help me get my checklist completed! Every day that passes I am getting more and more excited!!

Thanks for all the insight, girls!! I'm getting my checklist all prepared and of course being overly neurotic about everything! Thank God my boyfriend loves me..I know I'm driving him insane with my anxiety and lists and planning...Good to know about the ice packs and heating pad. I actually have both of those already.
@@fhawkins12 congrats on your surgery!! I'm so glad it went well!

A repost and my apologies if it's too descriptive:
So I'm sorry to be too graphic here but remember, someone filled your body cavity full of gas, they pumped fluids, medications, antibiotics and anesthesia into your body. They punched 5 holes in your abdomen, moved all your inner body parts around, shoved a tube down your throat, took an electric scalpel and burned away excess fat and tissue wrapped around your upper stomach, then wrapped a plastic strap around your stomach just below the lower esophogeal sphincter, stitched it in place with 5-6 sutures bringing your lower stomach up and over the band and then snaked a tube out of your body and sewed another plastic piece to the muscle tissue on your rib cage.
Now, thinking about all that has been done to your body, you're doing quite well aren't you?

alisadiane got a reaction from nerms in July 8 is my day! any one else in July
July 29th for me! My surgeon is having me do a low calorie, high Protein diet for 7 days and then Clear Liquids for 3 days before surgery. Not ecstatic about it, but ive already put in SO much work for the past 7 months that I just keep telling myself it'll all be worth it!
I just quit drinking caffeine starting today..which is REALLY tough considering I work at Starbucks! I'm not a HUGE coffee drinker, but I definitely enjoy my triple espresso in the morning.
I'm only taking 5 days off work, so i'm hoping to be one of the lucky ones who bounces back pretty easily. Good luck to all you ladies getting banded this week!! Hoping for quick healing and recovery for you!

@@Ariellestarr Thanks for the input!! My boyfriend and I live together so I'm sure he or my dad will fill my prescriptions for me..I definitely don't want to sit in a pharmacy right after surgery! I have heard a lot about sleeping in a recliner, and unfortunately I don't have one but I've been looking into something I can use in bed to help sleep more upright..or my parents have a recliner and I could stay with them, but there's nothing more comforting than your own home, so I'm hoping I can make it work..I also sleep on my left side, which is where my port will be, so I'm sure there will be all sorts of challenges with sleeping that will come up.

Gas X extra strength chewables! I took one as soon as I got home. Also, heating pad, ice packs or bags of frozen peas, and lip balm! If the hospital has a delivery service for your post op meds, get them! My hospital did it through Walgreens. Best idea ever. The last thing you'll want to do on your way home is wait at a pharmacy. I'm five days post op and still can't lay in bed. If you have a recliner chair, i suggest to get it ready. Clear Protein drinks help. I get the bottles of Isopure at GNC. I had to drink out of medicine cups also, so if the hospital doesn't supply you with those, get them. Other essentials like Soups, ice pops, Jello, and all that jazz. Yogurt is good to get too if you only have a few days of Clear liquids like I did. I was glad I had it because I did not feel like going anywhere! What I wish I got is the unflavored Protein powder. It's good to mix into almost any food. That would have helped me get my daily Protein in.
Hope this helps! If I think of anything else I will let you know. Good luck!

alisadiane got a reaction from sapcat54 in Just want to say how thankful I am
Just want to say that I so thankful this forum exists. I have been struggling with self acceptance and my weight my WHOLE LIFE. I am rapidly approaching 30 and have done so much to better myself in my career and have found such an amazing guy that loves me like I am today and can see how beautiful I am. With all this being said, I had decided it was time to address my inner shame in lean into some discomfort and vulnerability in order to make myself happy and healthy. I truly think that it's because of this forum that I really had the courage to reach out and ask for emotional support from family and now medical intervention. Seeing so many of your beautiful faces and reading your success stories has truly given me hope, courage, strength and the ability to walk into my first consult with a surgeon next week. I am remaining cautiously optimistic on the insurance side of things since I work for an incredible company that gives us amazing coverage. Keeping my fingers crossed and my hopes up! Thank you all so much!
