  1. This was my biggest fear! I tolerate pain well' date=' but I'm a biggggg baby with nausea. They gave me a pill before surgery, they told me it was the same anti nausea med that they gave chemotherapy patients. I'm 3 days post op and haven't been nauseous once![/quote']

Wow I hope they give me something like that cause I fear being nausious too! I think I will ask my surgeon that question on my final visit with him on the 23rd

  2. I was sleeved July 1st! Had a hard time with nausea afterward something that always hits me when I am put under. They gave me lot's of meds but had a reaction to the pain meds as well. Was weaned off both once I did that I felt 100% better. No soreness with exception of one incision. Other than that I feel great. I started walking the hall way' date=' got home the next day and still walking our neighborhood. On Clear Liquids for 1 week after surgery. I even went to the antique mall today and looked around. I am back at work on Monday. I feel overall great. I am excited to watch the lbs come off more and more........[/quote']

Glad to hear everything was fine I hear that nausea is a common effect after surgery. Did they give you anything for the nausea?

  3. Hey just want to check in I have been on my pre op diet which consists of two Protein Shakes one for Breakfast one for lunch and meat and veggies for dinner since June 25th and I I was doing great until the holiday. I had some baked Beans and potato salad! I am back on track today of course but one thing I noticed after my carb encounter yesterday was that during my morning workout I felt crappy!! It was so hard to get through my workout i mean it felt like i was exercising for the first time ever! So far I've lost 9lbs but I am going to definitely watch what I eat from now on.

  4. I am going for my first e ER consult with a surgeon. I am trying to grasp my head around this procedure. I want to know is it liquid foods for the first 6months? I'm in Brooklyn' date=' NY and my pic is of me 30-45lbs less. I'm 5'6" at 275-280! High BP, snore badly, and suffered with heel spurs and plantar fasciitis which prevented me from walking. I finally got a cortisone shot 2wks ago and I can put my whole weight on my feet but I'm still nervous. My PCP is obese and whenever I spoke about prescribing FDA approved diet pills he refused. I'm concerned he won't okay my surgery. Can I start fresh with a new doc?[/quote']

You should be able to start with a new PCP but you might have to go through a 6 month period so that the new PCP can to monitor your diet. Why don't you talk with your current PCP first and ask him since he has all of your medical history before jumping ship and going to another PCP.

  5. Help... Sorry y'all but I'm panicked a little.. I started my 2 week liquid diet I was 340 when I started and I've been eating "drinking" only what is on my list and I did start exercising' date=' well I decided to weigh today and I've gained weight?!?! I'm at 352.. That's 12 lbs!! How could this have happened? I'm keeping my calories 1000 or less.. Please let me know if this has happened to anyone and how did you take care of it..

My sleeve date is July 13. I did start my liquid diet early.[/quote']

I don't have a reason why you gained but try to restrict yourself to two Protein Shakes a say one for Breakfast one for lunch and a low carb dinner of veggies and Protein only you still have time before your surgery date to lose the 12lbs. And If you have to snack, snack on low carb Snacks like hummus and cucumbers or beef Jerky. Hope this helps

  6. Hi ladies

I am having my surgery July 29th. Orginally planned on having the RNY on and was approved for it on July 29th but after doing more reasearch on what can happen to your body years after the procedure changed my mind on getting it done so i spoke with my surgeons office and they put in another request to my insurance carrier for the VSG and i was re approved two days later. On my lunch break today I go make final payment on my surgery.

  7. Here you can see my before pics. High blood pressure' date=' type two diabetes..i like to go places and do things but my body was so out of shape I felt miserable because that is not who i was inside. When i was made aware of this surgery and saw the success of others, i made a decision to get it done. As i see the results, I'll admit it I am feeling myself right now.buying cute clothes, going places. But i held myself back because of the weight for sooooo long. i am happy i am getting the results i want. i pray i am able to maintain it and actually live the life God has given me.[/quote']

You look amazing!!! I can't wait for my surgery!!!

  8. Would anyone be interested in getting together for a monthly meet & greet? I'm in the Huntsville area & would love to start hosting an event so that we can have a local support system. Let me know if anyone is interested. Just a thought... :)

Hi there I am also in Huntsville Dr. Malapur is doing my sleeve on July 29th. I think I will be a great idea to start hosting a local support group!

  9. Huntsville hospital Dr. Mailapur. My healing is great. No complications. My eating is still limited because meats and eggs make me throw up. I think that will get better I just need to wait a while and try them again.

As of this morning down 27# which I feel is pretty slow but I feel confident that I'm doing things right (except I could exercise more). So trying to be patient.

I get about 60-80 grams of Protein and 3 cups Water. Need more Water. Around 700 calories.

    What about you?

    Hi there

I too will be having surgery and Dr. Malipur is doing mine. It's good to see someone local on this forum

  10. When first getting the surgery' date=' people told me my palette would change. However, being almost 5 months post op, my appetite has switched back into full gear and I'm having the weirdest craving.. Watermelon and Funyons, together, have become a favorite of mines. I use to love the 2 prior to surgery, but now when i see watermelon, i immediately want the funyuns with them and vice versa. Not only does it taste like everything i ever wanted in life, but it also goes down with no problem and i feel satisfied. Anything else i eat, aside from shakes and Water, i can get 2.5 bites in and im done. With the funyuns, i can eat an entire (small) bad and about 1/2 a cup of watermelon. I really gotta get the chips under control. odd combo, but when i'm really having a craving this 120 calorie bag of chips and 35 calorie 1/2 cup of watermelon really does the trick... I probably eat this maybe once every 3 days.[/quote']

I can understand the odd combo the sweet and salty tastes together. just make sure you keep to your plan by eating your special snack in moderation

  11. Hey ladies! So Im about to have my VGS in June and the number one factor has got to be because of my PCOS! I just wanted to know if anyone else out there in VGS land have these same issues and if anything has changed since surgery? So Im currently 277lbs and knockin on 300's door. ( uhg) but ever since I graduated highschool I began gaining weight without even eating bad and didnt know why. I would have chronic Migraines ' date=' irregular periods ( sometimes 2 times a month or not at all) pains in my lower abdomen, acne breakouts, back pain etc and no answers! 2 years ago I finally was diagnosed with PCOS AND WAS PUT ON BIRTH CONTROL TO CONTROL My symptoms and issues. I gained weight on the pill in order to have a regular period but Im still dealing with headaches and migraines EVERY SINGLE DAY, my cysts rupture causing extreme cramping, pain and bleeding! I was told that I cant have kids as of right now. although not physically on my period, I get all of my period symptoms and craving so its causing me to gain more and more weight. Now my knees hurt, my back hurts ( Did I mention Im flat footed as well?) I cant work out because of my constant migraines and pain its horrible! I feel like a failure! I was losing weight and at 190lbs when I developed this and it caused me to go down hill now I feel like a complete freaking failure. When I heard about this surgery I was ALL OVER IT! They told me that getting this surgery and losing this weight will make my PCOS go away, no more chronic migraines, no more infertility, no more cysts rupturing! I couldnt believe it! Im praying to God it works! Its taking such a toll on my life, physically, emotionally and even my schooling. Can anyone out there relate to my pain and able to testify that this surgery helps make PCOS go away!??!?!?!?!?! Advice needed! thank you!!!!!!!! :)

    - Ashley[/quote']

I there my surgery date is set for June as well and I have PCOS too. I am at 300lbs and it's not fun. I was told that PCOS isn't something you catch you're born with it and as you get I let the symptoms start. As long as I could remember I had hair on my chin and chest. the symptoms got worse as I got older. Like you, I pray that this surgery works. I'm ready to put in the effort it requires to make it work I just hope my body don't turn on me (stalls, carb cravings, mood swings)

  12. Hey wannabehealthy2' date=' I was sleeved on 1/8/13 and have PCOS. I do believe I'm losing a little slower than others. Since my surgery I've lost about 45-50 lbs but my inches are more. My clothes are falling of faster than the scale moves. So I'm grateful still. The symptoms of PCOS are becoming less and less. My cycles are getting more regular, hair in areas it shouldn't be on a woman is getting less and less, my skin is clearing up. So all around an awesome experience. I try not to measure my success against others for two reasons. 1) They're not me and everyone's different and 2) my weight is dropping more consistently than ever before. Plus I'm hoping with my weight dropping a little slower I won't have as many issues with my skin ;-). Hoping at least! But good luck lady and hopefully all goes well for you.[/quote']

You're right I should not compare myself to others. I just don't want to fail at losing weight anymore. PCOS sucks!!

  13. Ah' date=' okay - thanks for the clarification. I wish you success not only with weight loss, but discovering and tackling the issues that caused you to gain the weight back.[/quote']

This is off subject but Hi VSG Kirk I just subbed to your channel on YT. I thought your name sounded familiar, lol

  14. I know you asked Isleevedit this question but I figured I would answer it since no has yet. Its a tube used you shape your sleeve. While you're under' date=' the surgeon will slide a tube (bougie) down your throat to shape your new stomach. The most commonly used sizes 32,34,36,40 and even 50 french sized bougies. My surgeon told me he would use 36 sized on me to lesson the side effect of GERD[/quote']

Oops meant to say " lessen" :)

  15. To ISLEEVED IT..............What is the bougie?

  16. It sounds like there is a variety of ways people respond to the sleeve in terms of what they can eat' date=' So there is a gamble in that sense.

I had the VBG 12 years ago and could not eat healthy foods. The opening was the size of a dime and the pouch was the size of an egg, so I was very restricted in how much and what types of food.I could eat.....after 10 years the opening got blocked and I had to have surgery to remove half the band...the back half is still in place. Now, I can eat anything, the size is still restricted because of the stapling that had been done so it sort of sounds like it is comparable to the sleeve but I also gained the weight back. I am trying to determine if havign the sleeve done will be worth it....if it will restrict the amount I can eat more than I am restricted now.

So Does anyone know the diameter of the sleeve?

From what I have been reading it seems lots of people have had problems digesting certain foods or feeling full and uncomfortable. From the diagrams of the sleeve it looks a lot bigger around than the size of a dime yet people describe their experiences which sound exactly like what I went throgh with the VBG. The pouch was the size of an egg and the opening was the size of a dime.....but with the sleeve it is the whole length of the stomach, so I am puzzled when people say their sleeve feels full or they feel uncomfortable with what they have eaten because the sleeze looks a lot bigger than the pouch was.....I hope I explained that clearly enough for people to understand...... Any thoughts?[/quote']

I haven't been sleeved yet but what I was told in regards to how the sleeve works is think of your banana sized stomach as a sink when you fill it up it takes a while for it to drain. The food is stacked in your tummy which is why people report fullness and feeling of the food in their chest area. Even though the amount of food you eat will still be restricted we still have to make the right choices of food we eat. So garbage in, garbage out. If you put garbage in don't expect much weight loss Hopefully this helps.

  17. Hi All!

I wanted to start a thread for African-American sleevers (no worries I HEART all sleevers from the rainbow). I just thought' date=' no scientific proof, that African-American sleevers may respond to the surgery different than our lovely non-African American sleeved sisters and brothers. I wanted to know if we had the same skin issue, hair problems, and other surgery related issues. Also, how to deal with the culture shock. African-American "soul food" may be something of the past... or not. So I was just looking for a space to voice culture related issues and concens.

PS- I TRULY  ALL SLEEVERS.

    [/quote']

Are there any African American sleevers with PCOS in this thread also? I hope to be sleeved in May and I have PCOS. I know its a common fact that African American women with PCOS lose slower than out Caucasian counterparts so I will love to hear about your journey and what I should expect regarding weight loss

  18. I have PCOS... and Hypothyroidism... I feel like this surgery has been my saving grace with my weight... Before no matter what I did I could not for the life of me lose weight' date=' I am very fit, even at my heaviest weight. With the amount of time I used to spend in the gym I should have lost the weight on my own. It was the PCOS and Hypothyroidism. I have the Mirena IUD so that helps with my periods (I don't get them at all) and hopefully losing weight will help me concieve another baby. It took my DH and I 2 years and 2 miscarrages to convieve our son and then after trying for baby #2 for a year with 2 miscarriages and no success, I decided it was time to do something more. Thats when I decided to stop trying to concive, I saw my surgeon July of 2012, got Mirena (to prevent unplanned pregnancy durning weightloss) Aug 2012, then got my Sleeve done 12.12.2012... I am down over 50lbs and I couldn't be happier!!! In March of next year I am going to have my Mirena taken out and see what happens with my cycles for a few months and begin charting and temping while using condoms, then if all goes well in June DH and I will hopefully start trying and FINALLY I will get pregnancy with baby #2...With my surgeons and OBGYNS blessing to try at 18 months out! But this surgery has been awesome!

    Sorry for writing a novel![/quote']

Wow you have given me hope I have PCOS and its been hell trying to lose weight. Hopefully I will be sleeved in May. I am not trying to have any more children I just want the weight off and the symptoms to be under better control.

  19. My nut said to think of it two ways.....

If it breaks down with mainly saliva and little to no chewing.... Like crackers or chips.. It is a slider and moves through too quickly. BUT

You can also make good foods sliders by adding goop to them causing them to slide on through your tummy too quickly.. Ex.. Too much mayo in tuna' date=' too much gravey on beef or drinking at the same time while eating!

The goal is dense Protein to cause the pylorus to close.[/quote']

Would Protein shakes be a slider food as well? I ask this because if it contains Protein it should keep us full, right?

  20. For a long time' date=' I've told people I'm fat because I love food. I'm realizing that I need to change the way I think about food. If I can convince my brain that the only reason I need it is for fuel, then maybe I have a chance at being successful this time. They say you replace one addiction for another... What HEALTHY addiction will you replace your food with?

I'm going to find exercise that I enjoy! What about you?[/quote']

I think I will replace my food addiction with jewelry making and crochet in addition to exercise
