Miserable..3 weeks post op..Messing up! HELP!
@@jewelski, my deepest apologies if anything i said hurt you. as @@LindafromFlorida said, we reacted from fright and from a place of caring. none of us are in any position to be judgemental... we just want you to succeed and be healthy, MOST important to be healthy, and that means changing the behaviors you are telling us about, that you are asking us for help about. maybe the help you are asking for would best come from a therapist? we are not qualified to answer your question "what's wrong with me?" i know that i couldn't handle making all these changes without the support of my therapist and the happy meds that my psychiatrist prescribes. please don't let this turn you off to the forums. you are always welcome to say whatever you need to here, including slapping us if we answer less gently than we should have. it's hard to read emotion into written responses. we are here for you, and your response to our responses show that indeed, NONE of us are perfect.

1 month pre-op diet down, 2 to go...
According to the scale in the surgeon's office, I am down 5.6 lbs this month. Yay me! They want me to lost 14 total in the three months prior to surgery. I've made more changes than I thought possible: 1. cut out between meal Snacks 2. cut out most of the crap 3. cut back on the volume of food at each meal I still haven't added exercise to the mix, though. I have been blocked mentally with everything I think I'm going to start doing. I'm not sure why, but I think it has to do with living with my boyfriend. I want to exercise with him (in my mind, because I imagine it to be a healthy activity we could share), but in reality I don't ENJOY exercising with him, because I like to be totally focused on form and put in 100%, and him, not so much. And once I'm home, I don't want to go out again without him. And it's been way too hot and humid for me to handle walking outside, so there's another excuse. Ugh. So I talked about this with the exercise physiologist on the team at yesterday's visit, and she gave me a great idea. I'm going to start stopping off at various big box stores on the way home from work and walk them for 20 - 30 minutes before I get home. I'm thinking I can work this into my chores so I can accomplish stuff I would normally do on the weekend after work, and kill two birds with one stone. I just need to get STARTED. I really enjoy the feeling of exercising regularly, but man I'm so hard to kick start. I found out I only have to do 4 days of all liquid right before the surgery, so I'm hoping I won't have as rough a time as others I've read about. And I found out that I don't have to worry if I don't exactly make the 14 lbs they asked me to lose... as long as it's obvious that I'm working successfully to lose weight, it's ok. Here's to the next month, 2 of 3 pre-op! I have all of my tests except the endoscopy and colonoscopy scheduled for next Friday. That's my next milestone. I think the time is going to fly. I'm on track for a late September/early October surgery date.

Miserable..3 weeks post op..Messing up! HELP!
Please listen to the other posters and stop this behavior. You must follow the after care instructions in order to heal properly. You don't want to end up with complications! Be strong. Remember that you had this surgery to improve your life. Don't risk ruining any chance of a positive outcome! We're here to support you, vent as needed, but follow your instructions!

13 days and counting!
Welcome! So far I've tried a few, and

Eating?
Just be careful... from what I've read, it seems that what you CAN eat is not necessarily what you SHOULD eat while you're healing. I know you're two months out, but I've read here that healing fully takes a lot longer. Be cautious about pushing the limits your surgeon and NUT set for you. Congrats on the losing!

I got sleeved yesterday!
congratulations! everything i've been reading on these forums for the last year have taught me that the most important things to do now are to follow your doctor's orders to a T, get all your Water in, and get all your Protein in. and rest and heal! let us know how you are doing.

Today is the day!

Just starting - 1st Dr Appt
I'm just a little ahead of you too. I have my first follow up with the NUT today, so I'm one month into the process. Got all my tests scheduled, and am expecting to have surgery, if all goes well, sometime in late September/early October. Good luck!

First nut appt
It is exciting, isn't it? I have my first follow up with the NUT today, one month after my first appointment with the surgeon and his team. I can't wait to see how much I've lost on their "official" scale. Mine has it at about 7 lbs. Good luck!

Please help-losing weight before surgery
You can do this! You said the most you ever lost was 60 lbs... 70 lbs is only 10 more than that. It's a challenge, and the payoff is great. Keep posting and telling us how you are doing, ask for help when you need it, like in this post, and let us support you. I can't wait to hear how you're doing in a week or two!

Pre Op and Nervous
I love it, your re-birthday! There is a lot of information out there comparing the types of surgeries, and I'm sure someone will point you to the "best" places to look... I'm not up on that stuff. I chose the sleeve because it seemed to be less traumatic to the body. I just wasn't comfortable with the idea of the bypass. That's a personal thing. I know people who have had the bypass and been very successful. I originally was planning on the band because I thought it was the least invasive, but changed my mind after comparing the amount of after care (fills, etc) required. The important question is, why did YOU pick the sleeve? Everyone has their own reasons. You will lose the weight whichever you choose if you follow the rules your surgeon's team sets out for you. If you're still unsure about your choice, read people's posts on each of the surgery-specific forums. Read a LOT. I forced myself to read everything for weeks, from success stories to complications stories. Eventually you will be as well-versed as possible, and hopefully that will make you more confident in your decision.

9 Days away from surgery!
Welcome! I bet that even though this is your first post, you have been reading a lot of other's posts to help prepare for the changes ahead. We're all rooting for you, and can't wait to hear your updates. Meanwhile, try doing something totally out of your usual activities to take your mind off of your anxiety. Maybe, window shop online for all the new clothes you will want to wear after your weight loss! If you're into Pinterest, start a page for "things for after WLS".

If you just did Post Op diet without surgery would you still have lost the weight?
I tried it last year, the first time I met with the surgeon and his team. I was put on the pre-op diet, and never went back because I asked myself that same question. Here I am. I just posted how I fell off the pre-op diet, and know that I won't be able to sustain a weight loss effort without the surgery from my past experience. I know how hard I've tried, and how many times. You know that about you. I am telling people (if I choose to tell them, which I'm not sure about yet) "my doctors all agree that the surgery is medically required"

4 weeks after 1st visit w/surgeon and NUT... tripped up this week
"This time will be different!" she said. Sigh. I spent three weeks gradually cutting down on my caloric intake, cutting out poor food choices, and allowing myself to experience hunger again. I was very proud of the way I handled it, received a lot of praise from my sweetie, and lost 7 lbs! The nutritionist wanted me to lose 14 (5%) over three months, and here I was halfway there in one month. Then came this past week. Saying I strayed is an understatement. Although I know that I ate less than I would have normally if I binged, I definitely went off my plan for 4 days in a row. Greasy, fatty foods and ice cream, both of which I had pretty much weaned myself off of (so I thought -- at least I stopped craving it). I gained back 5 of those 7 lbs. This is why I need the surgery. This happens every time I try to "diet". I can't wait to have the support of my sleeve taking the option of overeating away from me. I really did great for 3 weeks! But I need some help getting past that point. I expect that post-surgery I will cement the habits of continuous healthy eating during the months that I am healing and losing, the period I've seen others refer to as "the honeymoon period". I learned that each day I stayed off plan made it that much easier to stay off another day, and that much harder to get back on track. I am now experiencing all the craving all over again, and I can't wait to stop it one more time. No more "just while my friend is visiting"! I have to start following the life plan now. It's just too hard to keep starting over and over again. I'm royally pissed at myself. Thanks for listening. I officially forgive myself and am back on track, looking forward to my first monthly weigh in on Thursday. Trying not to freak about the fact that my original weigh in was in the morning right after Breakfast, and Thursday's weigh in will be after lunch. That's so old Weight Watcher thinking. Right? (I will, however, wear the same thing I wore to the first weigh in. Some habits are harder to break than others.)

"When I finally lose the weight I am excited to...."
Besides all the other things that everyone has stated, I can't wait to take a shower and be able to reach every where I want and need to without having to sit down afterwards for 15 minutes to catch my breath. I used to love showering, and for the last 30 pounds I dread it every day.

Stalled :(
Lindsey, you're not alone! That's the only thing I want to add to the suggestions above. Keep posting, keep reading, keep sharing, and you'll get through this.

Nutibullet or Ninja
would using an old fashioned blender be a big pain compared to these two products? i wasn't planning on buying anything new, but i probably would to make the journey easier...

Dumping Syndrome....
that's interesting. i wonder if that means, since i'm a Type 1 diabetic and don't produce insulin, if i will automatically avoid dumping?

Yesterday I watched some of the YouTube videos...
I don't worry as much as I make sure I'm educated about the possibilities, positive and negative. After everything I've read and watched, there is no way I can go into this saying "I didn't realize it would be so hard!" I'm the kind of person who never shies away from a challenge if it's the right thing to do. I'm convinced this is the right thing to do, and I'm convinced it's going to be a challenge. I'm used to living with challenges, as I'm a Type 1 diabetic, and I wear an insulin pump and a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) attached to me 24/7. As an insulin dependent person, I have to always be aware of my body and conscious of my disease, and pay attention to the way my body reacts to food and exercise, as well as heat, stress, illness, etc etc. Therefore, I think I will get through the recovery part of this adventure fine... I'm cautious, used to dealing with a lot of doctors, and a good advocate for myself. It's the lifelong dealing with a food addiction that is the greatest challenge going forward to me. Facing the fact that the rest of my life will be spent in recovery is what's getting me down every now and then. I'd have to face that whether I had the surgery or managed to lose the weight myself. Preparing for the surgery is forcing me to actually face it now, instead of letting it float around the very very back of my mind and put off until later.
