  1. B day for me tomorrow! The nerves are starting to kick in xx

It will be over before you know it Emma!... They gave me something to relax me when I got to hospital, I fell asleep, and before I knew it my surgeon was saying hello to me in the operating room. Then I woke up and it was all over!! Pack a chapstick because your lips will feel dry. I was so glad someone had told me that! Good luck :)

  2. Hi all! I got banded on 8/7 and did great post-op. my surgery was at 8am and I was on my way home by noon that day. Things didn't get rough until my narcotics wore off at about 5pm that evening. My surgeon Rx'd Celebrex (a heavy-duty NSAID/anti-inflammatory) but advised that we probably wouldn't need that bc most of his patients do fine with just Tylenol. I took the Celebrex and got the WORST heartburn/acid reflux EVER (similar to the pain I felt when I had gallbladder attacks). I think it's because at that point I had been on a liquid diet for a week and really didn't eat anything on surgery day so I think I just didn't do well with an NSAID on an empty stomach. Anyway' date=' I couldn't take any more of that Celebrex after that so I stuck to Tylenol PM and liquid gels during the day. I was absolutely MISERABLE!!! :( It was the worst recovery/most pain post-op I've ever dealt with from a surgery (and I've had 7 abdominal surgeries and a baby sans drugs)! I blame it on the surgeon not prescribing narcotics.

I'm happy to report that today is the first day I have virtually no pain whatsoever. I didn't take the Tylenol for very long so I just dealt with the pain by being laid up in bed for he first few days. I did make myself get up and walk around a lot for fear of blood clots and/or pneumonia.

4 days after my surgery I walked one (very slow) mile at a local park. Every day since I've been increasing my distance and improving my time. That first walk was 28 minutes because I was in so much pain! I'm up to 3.5 miles daily and averaging 16-18 minute miles :) I've lost 12lbs in the past three weeks which includes my one week pre-op diet. I am still having issues with heartburn but overall feel FANTASTIC!

I'm ready to graduate from my "baby food" diet and am looking forward to eating "real food" again in the next 2 weeks. Reading thru all of your stories and encouraging words helped me get thru the worst post-op recovery of my life!! Thank you all :) can't wait to see how we all do over the next days/weeks/months/years!

    Good luck and Godspeed!!! :)

Sounds like you had a rough time in the beginning. Glad to hear you are on the up and focused on your goal. That first week after surgery was horrible but for me didn't compare to the c-section I had with my twins. I'm still traumatized by that!!!

  3. Your hub is right the swelling is going down and that's why you are able to eat more. Are you doing a variety of the things you can eat? Sometimes a change may help satisfy you psychologically as well. Hopefully it will help when you get real food.

I start mushies tomorrow.. Hopefully that will help. But I think you're right, I think a big part of it is psychological. Mental hunger + physical hunger = one unhappy gal!

  4. Had my surgery on 8/14. Everything went well but a little more sore today. No nausea so far. Still on thickened liquids. I don't know if I feel huge restriction because I'm still on liquids. I don't really feel the band either. Still a bit numb around the incision sites. Anyone else have staples? Feel like they are tugging a bit.

I was stitched at one incision and theyre internal stitches that are dissolvable. I still feel sometimes like I am "pulling" where my port is.

  5. Aghhh really struggling with my hunger at the moment. I was managing ok with four small meals a day but have been soooo hungry over the weekend. That cup and half my doc wants me to have is just not cutting it! I'm probably eating twice that. Hub keeps telling me that it is a good sign, obviously the swelling has gone down... but oh my gosh it's like I don't even have a band!! Anyone getting banded tomorrow??

  6. Thank you angemc! I just feel out of my element. Can't get comfortable for anything. I didn't take pain meds yet today. I probably just need to break down & take some. Yes' date=' I have gas pains. I'm sending my husband out for some medicine to help with the Constipation. How are you feeling angemc?[/quote']

I'm feeling great! Apart from some discomfort if I lay on my port I feel fine. I promise it does get better :) I had terrible gas pains that bought me to tears and on day 4 decided I didn't need ibuprofen anymore. Boy did I pay for it that night!! After that I kept on top of it. I was having some issues with hunger, so I spread my daily allowance over 4 meals instead of 3. That has helped for most of this week until today. I'm sooo hungry!! I think I'll definitely be ready for my first fill on the 29th.

  7. Second day postop. Not hungry. Just sore. I haven't been able to get all my Protein in. I can't wait for the pain to subside. The thought of food makes me sick. Weird. I have been moving around.....

It took a couple of days for me to feel hungry, and about seven days to start feeling human again! Just keep on top of your pain meds :) Are you having gas pains?

  8. I was banded on the 6th and am booked for my first fill on the 29th. My doc had me on 1/2 cup 3 times a day, but I was getting too hungry so have been spreading my 1 1/2 cups out over 4 meals. That was keeping my hunger at bay until today!! I am not hungry after eating 1/2 cup but not full either. And my stomach can't wait 4 hours for another meal, I'm looking for food after 2 hours. I was hoping to be one of the lucky ones who never needs a fill but I can see today that I'm going to be more than ready on the 29th for a fill!!! For those of you who have had a fill, does it hurt?

  9. I had the same thoughts! I was on a pre-op diet for four weeks and although I had a few slip ups, I still managed to lose 23lbs. And I started to think if I could do that, I could probably do it on my own. I even asked the same question as you on this forum. But then I realised that I had had many years of trying to do it on my own and failed. And my fear was what had me looking for an "out". I am now twelve days post being banded and am so glad I did it. The first seven days afterwards were hard, but now I feel great. Unless I press hard on my port, I wouldn't even know I'd had the surgery. I've lost another 11 pounds since the surgery (34lbs total) and am satisfied with eating 4 small meals a day. I would never have been satisfied with eating such a small amount prior. Good luck :)

  10. You will be fine :) I was banded 12 days ago and had a four week pre-op diet. I had several occasions were I messed up and was worried the day of surgery, but everything was fine. I even asked my doc if my liver had given him grief because it hadn't shrink enough. But he said there was no problem and he didn't have any difficulty. Its hard when we have busy lives that sometimes mean we have no choice but to eat something other than a shake. It sounds like you made the healthiest choice available so pat yourself on the back. I'm confident that all of the hard work you have put in will pay off for you. We are only human and I think that eating something sensible is better than going hungry and eating something we shouldn't later. For me if I'm really hungry, that's when I make unhealthy choices. Please don't punish yourself anymore, you are obviously committed to your weight loss journey. Good luck :)

  11. Ok' date=' just woke up from my 2nd night post-op. Didn't have any pain meds for the entire day yesterday so finally having pain meds is helping ALOT!!! Ok so question guys....Clear liquid diet consists of??? So far I've only had Water, apple juice and chicken broth. Is there anything else I can have? Not sure how I'm going to make it an entire week of this. Stomach growling :-([/quote']

I also had lots of sugar free Popsicles. My doc said I could have Protein Shakes as well but I was sick of them after 4 weeks of pre-op!

  12. For those who have had surgery' date=' how many times a day are you eating/feeling hungry?[/quote']

My doc told me 1/2 cup thick liquid 3 times a day. He said to expect to feel hungry and booked me for my first fill 3 1/2 weeks after surgery. However I have found it easier to manage my hunger by eating four times a day. So I'm eating every four hours - 9am 1pm 5pm 9pm. If I ate three times a day, 1/2 cup wouldn't sustain me for 5-6 hours and I was just too hungry. Then I found it hard to eat slow because I was starving! My doc said the reason for eating only 1 1/2 cups a day spread over at least three meals was so I didn't stretch my "pouch" and that was the optimum volume for weight loss and to find my green zone.

  13. I was just banded on the 14th and I must say that I am not feeling too bad! Walking does help. I did have the pain in my left shoulder but it was mild...most of my pain is around my port. It is true what they say that every day gets better. Again' date=' I started at 317. I weighed myself yesterday and I am currently at 288...very proud of myself.[/quote']

    Congratulations! That's a great loss :)

  14. I called the office this morning and they said it was due to the port being attached to the muscle. It comes and goes' date=' but it is real sharp, sometimes burning. Dr. Said if it worsens to call. I was curious if it was a common symptom. I just hope it doesn't last a long time.[/quote']

I'm sure it will pass. Maybe a hot pack and some ibuprofen would help?

  15. Okay' date=' question for those of you that have already been banded. I am progressively feeling better each day, but this morning I started getting sharp pains near my port area. Anyone else experience this?[/quote']

My port still gives me some grief too. If I stretch the wrong way or lay on my left side it kind of feels like its pulling. I have had some shooting pains as well near my band and my port but they are only brief. I think it's probably just part of the healing process and my body getting used to the band. Are the pains really painful or lasting for a long time?

  16. Wow that is awesome! I'm down 11 and feeling really good about my progress. I see my doc tomorrow and hope I can go to mushy foods. My port is less sore each day and I feel like doing more each day. Is your energy getting better slowly? I think after I'm healed and with the weight loss I will be a ball of fire! Will be good to feel 36 instead of 66.

Thank you! And well done to you :) I m feeling really good this week. I'm sleeping more comfortably and have been able to do most things without my port annoying me. I am already feeling more energetic! I have been working out on the treadmill every day and actually enjoying it!!!

  17. I am feeling better today. I was able to start regular food thank ya Jesus! And I notice I'm staying fuller longer. But after I seen my doctor Tuesday and talked to him I felt alot better. He said if you're hungry between meals eat we don't want you starving yourself..and once my band starts to get filled then I won't be hungry he said its all normal right now. I don't go for my first fill until sept 10 and my surgery was July 30. Tonight we went out for dinner and I got a beef and cheese chimichanga and I only ate half so now I have another meal :) I will get use to this

Yay! regular food!! I am still a week and half away from that, but my doctor has booked my first fill for the 29th which is two weeks from now. So I'll be back on mushies for couple of days. aghh. I have actually found I am keeping hunger at bay by eating 4 times a day. My doc said to only eat 3 times a day but I was getting toooo hungry! I definitely cant eat as much as before.
