  1. Hello.. Brand new to the site... I will be having my surgery on August 2nd. My pre-op is today and my two week diet starts tomorrow. I'm extremely nervous and have had a few of my friends give me their opinion on it.. ugh.. If its not nice don't say anything at all.. but I know why i'm doing this.. :) Hopefully we will have support here.

Welcome! I'm day 12 of a 28 day pre-op (yay almost halfway!!) and getting banded on August 5th. I'm nervous too about the surgery but am looking forward to a healthier me! Unfortunately there are always going to be negative people, but it is your body, your life, your decision! Everyone I have spoken to who has already been banded says its the best thing they ever did.. And hopefully we'll be saying the same thing very soon!! :) I have already lost 18 pounds and can't believe the difference it has made. My back has stopped aching and my clothes fit better. Can't imagine how it will feel to lose 100!!!

  2. I'm day 10 of a 28 day pre-op diet and I've lost 17 pounds. I have had one "blow out". Your loss is fantastic so fingers crossed your liver is a nice small size! It might be worth asking your surgeon what will happen if its not.. My surgeon won't operate and reschedules for a later date. But I think other surgeons go ahead but open you up instead of doing it by keyhole?

  3. My surgery is Oct 4th. I am starting a pr-pre op diet. I am replacing my usual breakfast mcmuffin and hashbrown with a Protein shake and cutting down on carbs. My pre op diet will be 3 weeks 2 Protein shakes' date=' one meal of 4-6oz lean protein, a cup of green veggies and a cup of free with all the calorie free drinks, sugar free popsicles and sugar free Jello I want. Starting later I hope maybe I can learn more from what you all learn in your journey's.[/quote']

Good on you for making an early start! Your pre-op diet is the same as mine except I have an extra shake in place of the protein serve.

  4. Caffeine headaches ouch! Several articles I read say that diet soda causes weight gain and cravings. Hard because for a long time that's all I drank good). Who knew that diet pop was worse than regular? Ironic.

Luckily I didn't drink caffeinated soda, but it wasn't diet so it was FULL of sugar. My headaches for the first four days were from carb and sugar withdrawal. I had no energy as well but it all seemed to turn around on day 5! I have also heard that diet soda is bad for you. But because my surgeon said I can have it, I'm having it lol :)

  5. Wow' date=' it looks like we have a support group going here. I have had trouble signing in, so I wasn't able to post. I haven't started my post-op diet yet, I'll start on the 30th. I am weaning myself off of carbonated sodas. I drank ALOT of soda in a day but am now down to one or two, just trying to finish up the ones I have in the 'fridge. I picked up a couple of cases of non-carbonated drinks at costco this weekend. My no-caffine headache didn't last as long as I thought it would. I am ready for this surgery. I am 59 and my starting weight is around 230 lbs.[/quote']

I drank lots if soda too! In fact it was all I drank. My surgeon said it would be ok for me to drink diet soda while on pre-op so I've switched to sugar free diet soda. I didn't like the taste for the first few days but have gotten used to it now! :)

  6. I am having surgery this Friday and am also nervous about going under. I am a nurse and have seen many people put to sleep but have never been put under. I have never even taken medication other than during childbirth and over the counter meds. I am having anxiety but praying for a smooth uncomplicated surgery. Just ready to wake up and hug my husband.

Mommyofk that's how I feel! The one time I was put under I was half my size so I'm just praying I'll wake up and everything is fine!

  7. My date is set for August 12th and I start my 4 week pre-op today! I'm excited yet nervous that I might cheat cause my boy friend is a bit of a diet sabotager. But with this site I'm sure I'll have enough support to stay on track!

Sounds like you're a week behind me.. I start week 2 of pre-op today and get banded on the 5th. The first few days are the hardest, and I admit I fell off the wagon on day 4. But after that, I have coped really well. Lost 13 in the first week (starting weight 399) and am much more motivated this week. I'm here if you need me :)

  8. I'm scheduled for August 26th. I'll be doing a 3 day sugar free clear liquids diet before hand. My weight is just high enough to put me at a 40 BMI which is a very good thing because I don't have any major comorbidities which my insurance requires for those under 40. Insurance should cover 100% which makes me feel very fortunate.

That's great news! It's a long wait to get to surgery isn't it? It's been 12 months for me and probably a year before that that I wanted the lapband. Wish I had made the decision earlier, but thought I could lose the weight on my own because I've done it before. But I was wrong! Anyway I'm three weeks away from surgery now. Excited and nervous but know it will be life changing :)

  9. My BMI is kinda low so I only have 2 weeks of pre-op... My starting weight is 237 (I gained 2 lbs. this past week :-/ guess its all my "final feast" foods I've been eating!! Just bought the ninja blender to start my pre-op I'm so excited!

I enjoyed my last week of "freedom" too!! I know I'll be able to eat my fave foods again, but I felt like I needed to say goodbye for now lol. I still have my food blender from when my girls were babies and have already put it to good use. I was getting a little sick of steamed green vege every night, so used them to make a Soup with a little stock (surgeon said it was ok). But I'm sure after the surgery it will get a lot more use! :)

  10. Hi, I'm getting banded on the 5th and have already started my pre-op diet a week ago. I'm super excited but nervous at the same time! I found this website a week ago and would love to keep in contact with you all as we start this journey to a slimmer and healthier us! I'm 36 and a mum to two gorgeous twin girls. My starting weight is 399 (ouch! How did I let it get that bad?!?) and after my first week on pre-op I've lost 13. My surgeon has me on 4 weeks of pre-op so 3 more weeks to go!

  11. You look AMAZING!!! My starting weight is 399 and after one week pre-op I'm down 13! Happy about that but have a long week to go yet. Can I ask if you have any issues with loose skin particularly on your tummy? After giving birth to twins 5 years ago and then following it up with a massive weight gain, I won't be surprised if I need a tummy tuck!!

  12. Hi Evelyn, I'm Ange and I'm getting banded on August 5th. I started my pre-op diet a week ago and have already lost 5.5kg. I have 50kg to lose to get down to my goal weight. My surgeon has me in a strict diet of 3 shakes a day and a small bowl of green vege. The first 4 days were the worst! I had cravings and bad headaches from the sugar and carb withdrawal. Congratulations on your loss so far! You should feel very proud :)
