  1. It just bothers me so to hear people confronted by friends and family over weight loss. I was sick of not being able to play with my little sister and my niece. Having my doctors tell me that if I don't do something about it I could have all these health risks. I also am tired of the teasing and bullying over being the size that I was. It is a very hard choice to decide to work hard to be healthier and an even harder choice to decide to be banded.

I decided not to tell anyone that I had the surgery except my parents, sisters, and my grandma just as a precaution. I told one friend and he was not really helpful. He kept telling me I was fine the way I was and that I shouldn't do it because it is dangerous. The statement that he made, "I was fine the way I was", was a horrible thing to say. I know being 379 was not fine. if you can't be honest with me or just be a friend and be supportive why are you my friend? I made the choice to not tell certain people because I did not want to put any doubts in my head.

If you don't want everyone in your business or don't feel comfortable saying you had LB, tell them you did it with a strict diet and working out five days a week. it's still the truth just not fully detailed. Also having the band doesn't mean you can not have children. they just don't recommend it in the first year.

I don't have extra skin yet because I was just banded on July 1, 2013. I've lost 50lbs pre-opt and 10lbs so far after the band. ever since I found this site I have been on here everyday.

  2. I am 26...my surgery is scheduled for July 26th. It's nice to be able to read what others my age are going through. I'm considered a "low bandster“...so I am getting mixed feelings from my sisters about getting this done. They insist I am taking the "easy way out". Of course, I don't see it as that. Both my parents have lap band and are completely supportive. It's just nice to hear or read people my age have the success with this procedure.

That's why I never told anyone what surgery I was having. I feel that we are not taking the easy road. We still have to work hard to make sure we stick to our diets, workout schedules. The best thing to do is to tell the people who are being negative the following statement. "I feel when you say negative things about the choices I have made about my health are extremely negative and I do not wish to hear anything about the subject anymore."

If the people we love are not supportive why should we let them bring our happiness down to zero. continue to strive and make it on your journey. You have support here on this site. :)

  3. I was on full 14 days liquid diet of Protein Shakes, chicken broth and Water. It was the hardest thing to do. my doctor said it depends on your bmi, and weight. if you have a larger belly you need to shrink not only the liver but the fat around the liver and stomach. since the liver is right there, you don't want to risk the chance of him slicing that. if it is not the right size or not enough room, they will not operate, and you will be closed up and you will have to start your diet over again.

  4. I totally get the same pain in my shoulder and my chest. I am still on the liquid diet and I do sip slowly. I am wondering if I am suppose to take breaks between each sip or if each sip should be about a cap full of Water. in the past 6 days I have only drinked about 2oz of water and maybe 2oz of chicken broth. I can't seem to get anything down. I am afraid to force it because I do not want to purge. Also does anyone know if they pre-fill your band when you first get it?

  5. yeah, it is very strange that we all had the same surgery and we all have different post-opt diet plans.. I wish I had your plan. the only meats I was advised to stay away from bread, Pasta, rice. He said it is known for swelling inside of the stomach and could lead to band slippage. I was pretty bummed out about it. It really limits my choices of food options because once I am back on solids. Right now I am on the liquid diet because I am 6 days post-opt. I will ask my doctor to see what he says about periodically adding a small dosage of rice or tofu noodles.

  6. we are not suppose to have it because Pasta and rice swells in the stomach and could cause food to get stuck in your throat or cause slippage.

Hi Alarry21 - I had my done end of may. I have had a little Pasta and rice (2-4 bites) and felt no pain from it. Are we to not have it b/c of weight gain or because it will get stuck? Still learning here :-) Thank you.

  7. You are human but mac and cheese is not one of the items you are suppose to eat. Try to get back in the ball game. the worst pain would be to experience a slippage or to have the band removed because of mistakes. I am five days after being banded and I am so tempted to eat solids but I do not want to risk the chance of ripping or hurting myself. Good luck!!

  8. the heating pad really worked last night. now the only pain is from the port side. I feel like my staples are coming out. It's a little easier to drink water(maybe half a cup). I still don't have much of an appetite. I had about 2oz of Protein Shake. and that was all i could tolerate. I am assuming that it is because of the swelling of my stomach and throat. I am excited and ready to start shedding those pounds and living a healthier life... Even though I will never see Pasta or rice again.

  9. I was banded on July 1, 2013. I wasnt told about the gas pain until the day of surgery. when they woke me up in recovery, I was a little disoriented. but I expected that. it wasnt until that night that i started to get pain in my chest and my upper left arm. i had the nurse give me pain meds. I am taking gas x but that is not helping for this type of gas. has anyone tried anything that worked for them?
