  4. Hi all, Got the call to schedule my surgery, which will be Jan. 29th! Very excited, have had a lot of other crap going on in my life the past couple weeks so this was the good news I needed! So now I start the 800/day liquid diet per the surgeon, any words of wisdom to get me through the next 2 weeks of this?

    Books

Hi all, So I am at the stage where I am getting all my various tests done and meetings with the dietitian start this month. During then next 6 months I thought it may be good to do some reading about what to expect, things to be aware, successes, set backs, etc. Anyone recommend any good books pertaining to Lap Band surgery and life after surgery?
  7. So working on getting all the pre-procedures checked off. I have history of reflux and GERD so surgeon wanted a esophageal motility test, my dr. For the reflux and Esophagus issues thinks bypass would be a better option for me... Though that's one opinion. waiting for the motility test now. This is the only thing I really concerned that may prevent me from being banded. Anyone have similar reflux issues prior to be banded? what happened for you? Also anyone post band have issues come up? TGIF all
  8. Ivy what if the surgeon feels its okay? The issues i know of are GERD and reflux...but are controlled with meds. again will just see if there are other issues found from the test today and if there isn't talk to the surgeon about my risks and if he still thinks its a good idea to proceed. :'(
  9. the motility test is different from the Upper GI test. I guess I will wait and see what the surgeon says when he gets the results. The suggestion of getting the bypass was from my gastrointestinal dr. I am already on 20mg omeprezal and have no symptoms. Your posts make me a little worried. I guess I will have a long vonversation with the surgeon. I'm more worried but thank you for your thoughts on the matter.
  10. So I'm hearing lots of info that you are not going to want to drink carbonated beverages...I am not a big soda drinker and can live giving that up, but it will be a struggle not to have carbonated water Anyone else have trouble with this?
  11. Hi my name is Jessie, I am a 27 yr old female from Minnesota. I am an occupational therapy assistant but presently also in school to become an occupational therapist. I am looking for a mentor as I am just starting the process to get banded. I had my first consultation with the surgeon this week and have started to schedule all my appointments for many of the months ahead. I currently weigh around 275 and at my highest I was 292 and my goal is to get down to 150 but that goal may change once I meet with the surgeon. I am ready to get my life back on track and started up again, from reading these forums it is a life changing experience and it is not a walk in the park. I would love to find someone to be a mentor to me through this process. In the future I will look to meet buddies but for right now I would prefer someone willing to be a mentor. If you are interested or having any questions for me please let me know Jessie*

  17. So I am going to the free information session on the band procedure in order to get more information about it. I have come up with quite a few questions. Is there anything people think I should ask or wish they had asked before the getting banded?
  18. So I am 75% sure I want to get banded, I have an information session this Thursday. I have been doing lots of information otherwise. I have a question in terms of getting the process started. I know it seems to vary how soon you actually get the surgery once you started the process with your doctor. I know that my insurance covers the surgery with some requirements me but how long should I expect to have the surgery once I have met with my doctor/surgeon? One other thing I am an occupational therapy assistant and it seems to really vary from what I have read in the forums how much time of work people had to take. Any thoughts on this? Getting excited and gearing up for this life challenging amazing experience! Jess
  19. Did your insurance require the documentation for those 3 months? Did you ask your insurance prior or did you find this out once you started the process?

    Couple Questions

I am in the process of gathering information as I am close to making the ultimate life decision of getting a lapband So in terms of insurance. After the initial surgery are the follow-up programs covered? Are fills or checkups with surgeon/doctor covered? And if there are complications in the future are the things necessary to fix them covered as well? Appreciate any answers J*
  21. Hello All! In the past month I have began to seriously consider weight-loss surgery and for many reasons the Band is most appealing. So now I am starting to become better educated on the procedure etc. I'm going to informational session at the clinic next week but I wanted to ask band users some questions. I would love any and all feedback positive or negative about the band. Are the risks involved with getting the band increased by not following the guidelines post-op? Is the erosion, slippage, etc something that can happen either by fault of the device or user? Is it possible when you have met your weight-loss goal and feel confident that would be able to manage your weight and are able to carryover the new habits and lifestyle that you can have it removed permanently? For those of you who have the band, what scared you the most or made you hesitant about getting the band?
