  1. hello everyone today im 9 days post op and have only lost 5 lbs am i doing something wrong? also my port site is swollen a bit a little tender but im concerned about being hard around the incision about 1 inch a round.

I lost 20 pounds in the first 3 weeks. Things have slowed down but all is going well onward and downward little by little bit by bit!

  2. Don't worry as you become more active and start eating real food again your weight will go up and down. Best thing is stay away from the scale.. I only weigh once a month, and I also journal on my lose it app every bite, lick or taste of food that I eat. Many times when you start working out your weight will go up a little as muscle weighs more than fat. Measurements are more accurate that the scale really is.

  3. Today is post op day 4, and I've noticed over the past couple days, my urine output has dropped off dramatically. It honestly has since I had my surgery on Tuesday. Prior to my surgery, I was peeing continuously on the liquid diet. I know I haven't been drinking as much Fluid as I was pre op, but I swear I only peed twice all day yesterday and maybe 3 times today, and I've drank over a liter of Water today, plus other stuff!

Anybody else notice this issue too??

My doctor said I had to drink 1 ounce of Water every 15 minutes.. I had the same problem just one day and after that I really kept my eye on my intake. As long as your output is light in color you know you are getting enough fluids.

  4. Ok so we live about 1 hour from the hospital that I am having surgery at. I want to pack a bag so I have my needs covered on the way home just in case I need something and to have my laptop with me as well. So Far in my bag I plan to have my my laptop, my Itouch, Gas X, Going to have my a Pillow in the car for the ride home. Any other suggestions for my bag of tricks?

Personally I would also take a few extras just in case they keep you overnight. When I went in I expected to go home the same day but much to my surprise I had to stay the night and I was totally unprepared for that. Just a suggestion.

  5. I'm only 2.5 weeks post op. I've been asked on 2 dates since being banded and they do not know of my decision with the band. I'm kinda nervous how to get around this. The one suggested coffee so it's perfect. The other suggested dinner or drinks. Any suggestions on how to avoid that or do I just tell him my restrictions right now? Suggestions. I suppose if we go to a place with salmon I'll be fine, don't have to purée it. Help

My guy friend was my biggest supporter going into this. We have always shared food when eating out, only now I don't buy a meal one does us both! I tell him I'm a cheap date!! Have fun and don't let this be a stumbling block for your personal life, embrace it and move forward!

  6. I'm less than a week away from my surgery and I'm excited! I do have to say that I'm disappointed the my "best friend" is not supportive at all.

You'll be fine, I went through all sorts of emotions before surgery, now I am so glad I did it. It is hard when those closest to you don't support you, I had problems with my daughters but my guy friend was super supportive so his support made up for the lack of support I got from family.

  7. Know this is a dumb ?? But I'm very top heavy, and when I have lost weight before they seem to still be there. I would have hope they would shrink too but maybe I didn't lose enough weight for that.. My ?? Is is anyone top heavy and has gone down in size a lot??

I've lost 200 pounds, 176 pre band, and I went from a 54DDD to a 36B! So for me I lost my chest but everyone is different. My daughter lost 100 pounds and didn't lose anything on top so it's really hard to say.

  8. I'm so puzzled! Can't make a decision! Feel alone!

I keep loosing and gaining the same 60lbs! Diet and exercise and I drop it in 6 months! The get comfy, lazy and put it back on!

I will have to self pay and it will absorb every dime of my savings!

Trying to take off this weight once again by myself!

I joined this forum to help me answer some questions.

    Sincerely,

    Me

I lost 176 pounds on my own, and I just wanted to go for the goal. So I decided to get banded I lost 24 pounds in the first month after the band. I get weighed tomorrow so I'll see where I am now, but I felt it was the tool I needed to complete my WL journey, and help me to maintain. I have no regrets and I feel fantastic! So what ever you decide best of luck to you.

  9. The codes my Dr provided me are an EXCLUSION per United Health Care (my plan).

Any suggestions before I self pay?

I have united health care and they paid 100% I only paid 2 dollar copays at my doctors office. My daughter had to get an attorney to get hers paid for, her surgery is not for 9 months though.

  10. So, I am 9 days post-op and just yesterday started on my "mushie" stage of eating. I've only had two meals so far and man am I having a hard time eating slow. I thought I was doing well but my body is telling me now that am still eating too fast. I have always been a fast eater and I KNEW this was going to be the toughest part for me. I'm working on it and my husband, Jim, has an app for my phone that can help. I am going to install it for lunch time. Does anyone have any tricks they use to eat slower??

I take one bite chew the living daylight out of it and wait one minute to take my next bite, what my surgeon suggested. i was on liquids for a full month and the first day I could eat they did my first fill so it was back to liquids for a few days! Going in for a fill tomorrow so enjoying my food today!

  11. Sometimes the best thing to say is nothing at all, just avoid him. If you respond to his messages it will just open a door that you might not want to open. I have been in a healthy relationship for 3 years now, and he knew me before I lost 200 pounds so I feel real confident in our relationship. But sometimes he can seem distant, but he just likes to have his own space sometimes. Good luck!

  12. I own a wholesale bakery, so I took off more than I really needed to. My doctor said 1 week if you don't do physical work, if you do she said 2 weeks. I took nearly a month off, but I rarely take time off so it was more of a vacation than anything. Most of my travel is work related so it was nice to just be home for a while.

  13. I was banded 8 days ago. I had the initial gas pains right out of surgery, walked around a ton, and they went away after a few days. I haven't had gas pains for about 5 days. Then, today, BAM! I have had the pain in my left shoulder ALL DAY!! Walking doesn't help, and neither does burping (aren't I sexy?). I thought once the gas went away right after the surgery I was in the clear....is it normal to have it go away and then come back?? And how long do I have to look forward to this? Thanks in advance!

I have to say it has been nearly 2 months and I get gas more than I have ever before! I've just decided it goes with the territory!

  14. Just posted this in post op but I need as much feedback as possible ! :

So I'm having the hardest time deciding this ...

All I want is a cup of coffee. My doctors office told me it increases the risk of stomach cancer to have caffeine. But I know SO many banders that drink coffee ! Tomorrow I have to work from 7:30am to 10pm and I don't know how ill survive. Can 1 cup really hurt ? I was banded sept 6th so it's a little over 2 weeks. What do you guys think? Any coffee drinkers out there ?

My doctor says just one cup a day,, because caffeine can cause dehydration. But I have pretty much gotten away from it, as I could not have it for the first 6 weeks I just sort of got out of the habit. However I went to coffee with my boyfriend tonight!!

  15. So I finally got things set up with the surgeon.

I have my first pre-op appointment on the 10th.

Tomorrow I have to call and set up a bunch of other appointments and I was curious if this was normal...

First I have to set up an apt. with my general practitioner. I have to see her once a month for 6 months... and I can not miss a month in the calendar year or I have to start over. This starts next month.

Starting on the 1st I have to adhere to a 1500 calorie a day diet and stick to it for that period of time.

I also have to make an appointment with the dietician, the exercise therapist, and a psychologist. I have to see the dietician 4 times before surgery, the psychologist 2x before surgery and the exercise therapist at least 2x before surgery. I also have to attend a support group.

Then 2 weeks leading up to the surgery I have to adhere to a very specific diet... mostly to shrink my liver so they don't hit my liver during the operation. I have to eat the foods sold at the hospital... no Protein shakes as I thought. They tell me to stay away from carbonated drinks and from drinking through a straw. (Of course this means no soda, no beer, etc.) And when I do drink, It has to be 1/2 hour before eating, nothing while eating, and nothing until a 1/2 hour after eating.

So if I have the surgery... it will end up being in March or April.

Does any of this sound familiar to anyone who has been through pre-op? I have seen a lot of people on special diets for 2 weeks prior to surgery (mostly Protein shakes)... but haven't heard anyone state they needed to be on a 6 month 1500 calorie diet.

My doctor required that you go to the weight loss management before I could see her. It was 4 appointments, my insurance did not require anything so it just took one month. But I know most insurance companies require 6 to 9 months of diet and t have you.wha

  16. How long did it take you to see results and lose 20+ pounds after being banded? Just curious to see everyones results. :-)

I had lost 176 pre banding, and lost another 24 pounds the first month after surgery. I have not weighed since my last doctors appointment but I don't fell like I have lost much this month, but I will know next week when I go in for my second fill.
